RACE 1:.2YO MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

J Lewis, who was indisposed, was replaced by S Roos as rider of HOBNAIL EXPRESS. STRICTLY RHYTHM (I Toward) jumped outwards when the gates opened on to MEAND (J Stopps) and ROSE OF JACOB (E Kowald). ROSE OF JACOB lost ground. ON HER LAURELS (B Kenning) raced wide on the track from the 600 metres to the straight. HIGHLEIGH ROAD (L Buckingham) hung in down the straight. At approximately the 200 metre position, MR JACOBS (S Morris) moved in onto COOL ALLEY (J Felix), causing that horse to check severely and to make heavy contact with the running rail At a subsequent Inquiry into this incident, Jockey S Morris, the rider of Mr. Jacobs WAS FOUND GUILTY TO A CHARGE OF Careless Riding under the terms of ARR 137 (a), in that he allowed his mount to move in at the 200 metre position and interfere with the run of COOL ALLEY, causing that horse to check severely. Jockey S Morris was suspended from riding in races from midnight on 18/3/03 up to and including the 5/4/03.

RACE 2: CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

J Lewis who was indisposed, was replaced by W Kenning as the rider of LAKE DISTRICT. FINAL COUNTY (L Buckingham) raced wide on the track throughout the running of the race.

RACE 3: CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1100 Metres

ARCHDUKE (G Porter) jumped awkwardly when the gated opened and lost ground and was slow into galloping action. TINMAG (J Stopps) slipped at the start and jumped outwards onto REBEL REBEL (NZ).

RACE 4: 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1200 Metres

L Nelson, who was indisposed, was replaced by J Stopps as the rider of ERRATUM. BIG RED MAN (J Felix) was slow to leave the starting stalls. At the 200 metre position, GREEN DESTINY (S Roos) moved in causing ERRATUM (J Stopps), to be slightly inconvenienced.

RACE 5: CLASS 6 PLATE – 1200 Metres

When the gates opened, DELTA GLOW (M Seagren) jumped outwards making contact with MOONARCHEE (W Kenning) at the 600 metre position OHKAY (K Penrose) shifted out marginally in the concluding stages of the race.




RACE 6: MALANDA CUP, OPEN HANDICAP – 1400 Metres

CORAL CRUISE (G Porter) was slow to leave the starting stalls. At the 600 metre position AVIARA (M Seagren) eased off the heels of EARLY BRIGHT (I Toward). PROFLIGATE and EARLY BRIGHT made light contact at the 200 metre position.

VETERINARY REPORT:
HIGHLEIGH ROAD (Race 1) - small lacerations to off hind fetlock.
TINMAG (Race 3) – Dehydration (partial) and symptoms of respiratory infection.
