ATHERTON TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY 23 AUGUST
STEWARDS PANEL: W BIRCH (CHAIRMAN) B GRAY, H WARREN
WEATHER – FINE TRACK:- GOOD RAIL – TRUE
RACE 1: MAIDEN PLTE – 1200 METRES – 11 STARTERS
Approaching the first turn LUNCH AT THE DRUM (T Kowald) hung out resulting in CITY TIME (S Morris) having to be checked off that horses heels. LUNCH AT THE DRUM continued to hang out taking BLUE ALL OVER (M Seagren) wider on the track. R Moller trainer of LUNCH AT THE DRUM was advised the gelding would be required to trial to the Stewards satisfaction before its next race start. ROYAL PUNCH (D Crossland) raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event. Near the 200 metres NAGOMI (A Merritt) had to be steadied when tightened for room by PHANTOM LYRIC (D Canny) which shifted in slightly.
RACE 2: CLASS 6 PLTE – 1200 METRES – 11 STARTERS
As J Lewis was indisposed, S Morris was substituted as the rider of TELEHO. CLANDENT was slow to begin. Rounding the home turn CLANDENT (D Canny) shifted out to obtain clear running taking HOUSEBREAKER (NZ) (D Crossland) and BUSHRA GEM (A Merritt) wider on the track. CLANDENT which bled following the event will now incur a mandatory 3 month ban from racing.
RACE 3: CLASS 3 PLTE – 1200 METRES – 12 STARTERS
SCANSION (L Nelson) shifted in abruptly shortly after the start.
Stewards have adjourned an inquiry in to jockey J. Dickinson’s handling of I’M A WARRIOR.
RACE 4: WEIGHT FOR AGE – 1200 METRES – 9 STARTERS
CINNAMON COVE (D DEAN) hung in on the first turn tightening the running of MAS FINA (R Bellert) and BLACKLOCK (R RYAN). ACES BLACK (S Morris) Hung out rounding the home turn.
RACE 5: CLASS B HANDICAP – 1100 METRES – 12 STARTERS
As R Ryan became indisposed following his ride in race 3 he was replaced on PHORCY’S by R Bellert. D Crossland was permitted to ride LLOYD ½ KG overweight as there was no other suitable rider available. D Crossland was reprimanded for being overweight. OMARA was slow to begin. OPPOSER (D Canny) overraced in the middle stages of the event.
RACE 6 : OPEN HANDICAP – 2000 METRES – 8 STARTERS
EDGEWANA blundered on jumping away. GROSE WONDER was obliged to race wide in the early stages of the event.
ALL WINNERS AND CLANDENT WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
