Supplementary: Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer Mr F Wieland for the late rider declarations of DREAM ON DREAMER in race 1 and I SEE ROMANCE in race 5.

Race 1: Innisfail Turf Club Class B Handicap – 1000 metres:
1st – DRAGON ACE 2nd – DREAM ON DREAMER 3rd – HUSSELING 4th – SPURLANA

Shortly after the start SPURLANA (App N. Yardi) clipped heels and became unbalanced when DRAGON ACE (App S. Wiseman) shifted out slightly.

On jumping away FLUKES (App B. Swaffer) was tightened for room between DREAM ON DREAMER (App J. Kuskopf) and HUSSELING (App N. Yardi) both of which shifted.

Leaving the 150 metres DREAM ON DREAMER (App J. Kuskopf) had a tendency to lay out.

When questioned as to the disappointing performance of FLUKES, Apprentice B. Swaffer stated that after beginning only fairly he was slightly hampered shortly after the start resulting in FLUKES racing further back than anticipated. Apprentice Swaffer further added that FLUKES responded only fairly to his riding and in his opinion felt the gelding to be sore. A post – race veterinary examination of FLUKES revealed the gelding to be shin sore in both front legs. Trainer Mr G Wehlow advised Stewards that FLUKES would be sent for a spell immediately. Stewards took no further action on the gelding.

Race 2: BP Builders Open Handicap – 1100 metres:
1st – BOLT FROM THE BLUE 2nd – SUN WARRIOR 3rd – MIDNITE RAID 4th – BALUSTRADE

SEAFLIGHT (R. Ryan) was slow to begin.

CANNYON ROAD (J. Felix) was forced to race three wide throughout.

BOLT FROM THE BLUE lost both its near fore and near hind race plates in running.

Stewards afforded apprentice B. Swaffer the opportunity to explain the disappointing performance of DOYADEAL, apprentice Swaffer stated that DOYADEAL began well and then took up its customary racing position at the rear of the field. Apprentice Swaffer further stated that the gelding travelled well until nearing the 400 metres and when placed under pressure responded only fairly to his riding. A post – race veterinary examination of DOYADEAL revealed the gelding to have a slower than normal recovery rate. Trainer Mr G Wehlow agreed with the comments of apprentice Swaffer and stated that the gelding normally takes a few runs in its preparation to come to hand. Stewards noted both their comments.

Race 3: Sundown Engineering Maiden Handicap – 1200 metres:
1st – MY MATE NATE 2nd – LATEST EDITION 3rd – FAVOURED ONE 4th – MAKING HEADLINES

At the start ESCONDEE (App N. Yardi) jumped outwards and made contact with FAVOURED ONE (App S. Wiseman).

LIABLE (App B. Swaffer) was slow into stride.

EDITORIAL (F. Edwards) was inclined to overrace in the early stages.

ESCONDEE (App N. Yardi) was forced to race wide throughout.

Race 4: NEC Electrical Benchmark 60 Handicap – 1200 metres:
1st – THIRTY THREE LARGE 2nd – LOVE THAT DRAGON 3rd – CHRONIC 4th – OTTANA

LIBERTY’ S MAGIC (R. Ryan) began awkwardly and as a consequence lost ground.

PEMBERTON (S. Wison) was slow into stride.

CHRONIC (K. Rockett) had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn near the 400 metres. Then near the 200 metres CHRONIC (K. Rockett) was disappointed for a run between HEZA RICHES (App S. Wiseman) and ROJO BUZZ (F. Edwards) forcing jockey Rockett to shift out around the heels of ROJO BUZZ to obtain clear running.

Race 5: Let’s Race Again April 5 Class 3 Plate – 1400 metres
1st – BANDIDAS 2nd – NOTABITOFWHITE 3rd – 1 SEE ROMANCE 4th – GREAT IMPRESSIONS

At the start BANDIDAS (R. Ryan) was tightened for room and lost ground between CARNEGIE HALL (J. Felix) and KAMARAH (S. Pawsey) both of which shifted.

Apprentice J. Kuskopf reported that her mount GREAT IMPRESSIONS was inclined to overrace throughout the event.

Near the 250 metres apprentice B. Swaffer the rider of NOTABITOFWHITE accidentally dropped his whip.

Jockey W. D’Avila reported that his mount I SEE ROMANCE was inclined to lay in throughout the home straight.
