As K. Gates was injured this morning at trackwork, rider substitutions were made as per the stewards summary.
Race 1: Club Hotel QTIS Class 2 Handicap 850m
1st – Mauve Lady 2nd- Craiglea Masta 3rd – Duan Allibar 4th – Star Giggle
As no apprentice was available, stewards permitted R. Hancock to be substituted as the rider of STAR GIGGLE. Due to this rider replacement, the start of this race was delayed to allow the arrival of R. Hancock on course.
CRAIGLEA MASTA (S. Bayliss) was slow to begin.
CRAIGLEA STELLAR (A. Badger) and LADY RUTHERFORD (D. Gill) both raced wide throughout.
MAGPIE JACK (B. Derbyshire) lost it’s near hind plate in running.
A. Badger, the rider of CRAIGLEA STELLAR, reported that the near side barrier partition sprung back on jumping away, and that the filly never felt comfortable on today’s racing surface.
Race 2: Bundy Diesel Specialists Maiden Plate 1090m
1st – Fomalstar 2nd- Full Turn 3rd- Dubleit 4th- Alyichi
CENTURY OF WAR (R. Hancock), after being slow to begin, was hampered shortly after the start between GEMS TATT (B. Derbyshire) and BRACE FOR IMPACT (S. Bayliss) which shifted out after being slow to begin.
Race 3: Lighthouse Hotel Class B Handicap 1212m
1st – Sufferin Succotash 2nd- Tigerlicious 3rd- Made ‘n” Ready 4th – Grandeur King
As no apprentice was available, stewards permitted R. Hancock to be substituted as the rider of TIGERLICIOUS.
MADE ‘N’ READY (D. McMaster) was slow to begin.
CRAIGLEA MANDY (A. Badger) was tightened at the start between GRANDEUR KING (I. Coombes) and SUFFERIN SUCCOTASH (D. Gill).
MADE ‘N’ READY and GRANDEUR KING both raced wide the majority of the event.
MADE ‘N’ READY laid in under pressure in the straight.
S. Bayliss, the rider of HEAVENLY HEIGHTS, reported the gelding was inclined to lay in throughout the event.
B. Derbyshire, the rider of SLEEPING WOLF, reported the gelding did not appreciate the kick back from today’s track surface, and may also have resented racing in amongst other runners.
Race 4: Boylan’s Produce Open Handicap 1212m
1st – Fear No Other 2nd- Frenardi 3rd- Don’t You Worry 4th- Coco Loco
No racing incidents.
Race 5: Sugarland Tavern Benchmark 65 Handicap 1380m
1st – Metaphysical 2nd- Night Wanderer 3rd- Honour Jacko 4th- Ranger Hill
RANGER HILL (D. McWhinney) was slow to begin.
MR ASSET (R. Hancock) was tightened at the start between CYCLONE STEVE (I. Coombes) and METAPHYSICAL (B. Derbyshire) which shifted in.
METAPHYSICAL and HONOUR JACKO both raced wide throughout.
I. Coombes, the rider of CYCLONE STEVE, reported that the gelding travelled well until placed under pressure near the 600m, where the gelding failed to respond to his riding, and proved disappointing in the run to the finish.
