Supplementary: Prior to the commencement of the meeting App. T Ticknell advised stewards that as a result of suffering from the effects of the flu during the week she had been unable reduce her weight down to her minimum riding weight of 51kgs. Subsequently permission was granted for App. Ticknell to ride at 52kgs for the day, and as a result App. Ticknell did not claim her full allowance in races 1, 4 and 5.



Race 1: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP - 1600m
1st – TIGERLICIOUS 2nd – HARRISVILLE TOFF 3rd – GORILLA’s MIST 4th – DAWN RETURN

TIGERLICIOUS (S Bayliss) and RUTHLESS BABE (I Coombes) were both slow to begin.

DAWN RETURN (L Appo) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 200m GORILLA’S MIST (D Gill) commenced to shift out under pressure, taking HARRISVILLE TOFF (B El Issa) wider on the track. As a result B El Issa was unable to fully test his mount over the concluding stages. D Gill was advised she would be expected to stop riding and straighten her mounts in similar circumstances.

I Coombes, rider of RUTHLESS BABE reported at scale that after being crossed by runners leaving the 600m, the mare resented the sand kick back and failed to respond to his riding from that point.



Race 2: CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 850m
1st –STAR GIGGLE 2nd- UKOK LASS 3rd – CRAIGLEA MASTA 4th – DR HOUSE

J Short, trainer of UKOK LASS, which was reluctant to leave the saddling enclosure and proceed to the barriers, was advised a warning would be placed on that mare regarding its pre-race manners.

MURRAMARANG (App K Gates) was severely checked at the start between STAR GIGGLE (B El Issa) and RICORDO (I Coombes) which shifted in abruptly.
A post race veterinary examination of LAST ROAR revealed the mare to have sustained cuts to near foreleg.



Race 3: CLASS 3 PLATE - 1090m
1st – TELLKANE 2nd – I BET EXCITED 3rd – NINEVEH’S WISH 4th – DARK ANGEL

The start of this event was initially delayed for approx.10 minutes to allow ambulance officers to attend to a patron requiring medical assistance on course. The start was further delayed when MAGPIE JACK could not be loaded into the barriers, with the gelding subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:43pm on starters’ advice. Prior to declaration of correct weight bookmakers were advised all bets on MAGPIE JACK to be refunded in full with deductions of 7cents face value of win tickets and 9 cents face value of place tickets to apply. Trainer K Hill was advised MAGPIE JACK would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.


When questioned regarding the below market performance of DARK ANGEL, D Gill stated that after beginning fairly the mare resented the sand kickback and was reluctant to stretch out any stage of the event. She added that it was her recommendation to connections that DARK ANGEL would be better suited to turf surfaces.

Race 4: OPEN HANDICAP - 1212m
1st – BLAZE TO FORTUNE 2nd – HARNEY 3rd – UNIQUE FUSION 4th – FEAR NO OTHER

MASTER FIBBA which had sustained a cut to its near hind fetlock was examined by the club Vet prior to the event and cleared fit to start.

UNIQUE FUSE (D Gill) was tightened at start between LIBERTY TYCOON (D Sheargold) and BLAZE TO FORTUNE (App K Gates) both of whom shifted ground.

A short distance after the start NICKIERA (C Eaton) shifted out taking ANGEL PLACE (I Coombes) out onto FRENARDI (App R Johnston-Bell) which became unbalanced.

L Appo, rider of MASTER FIBBA was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR 137 (a) in that leaving the 800m he shifted out when insufficiently clear of ANGEL PLACE resulting in that gelding being checked and losing its rightful running. The license of L Appo was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 13th April and to conclude midnight 25th April 2013.

MARTIROS (App C Jokic) raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of LIBERTY TYCOON revealed no abnormality.

When questioned regarding FRENARDI racing out its ground in the early and middle stages of the event which is in contrast to its usual racing pattern, App R Johnston-Bell stated that shortly after the start he was unable to hold a forward position which allowed runners from his outside to cross, and that as result the gelding raced further back in the field than he would have anticipated. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered, noting in particular the fast early pace of the race.




Race 5: QTIS MAIDEN PLATE - 1212m
1st – PLATINUM PEAKS 2nd – GET BACK 3rd – APACHE SOX 4th – CENTREFOLD BABE

Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer I. Peterson for the late rider declaration of COCO HEART.

ONE TO FEAR (App R Johnston-Bell) and TSUMAI GAL (App D McWhinney) were both slow to begin.

DADSAIDJETTA (G Killen) and GEM’S TATT (L Appo) came together and bumped on jumping.

Leaving the 200 metres CENTREFOLD BABE (App T Ticknell) shifted out under pressure hampering DADSAIDJETTA. Soon after, CENTREFOLD BABE shifted, in placing DADSAIDJETTA awkwardly at the heels of that runner. In acknowledging that CENTREFOLD BABE was having its first race start, App Ticknell was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

When questioned, D McWhinney rider of TSUMAI GAL, reported the mare had a tendency to race ungenerously and climb in its action, particularly after receiving kickback in the early and middle stages of the event. He added once TSUMAI GAL found clear running the mare raced more generously and in his opinion finished the race off fairly.




Race 6: CLASS B HANDICAP - 1600m
1st – APACHE GULF 2nd – AHSOKA TANO 3rd – REMY MARTINI 4th – COMMANDS THE TRUTH

KOROVUTO (C Kearney) began awkwardly, shifted out and lost significant ground at the start.

MAY (S Bayliss) was slow to begin.

S Bayliss, rider of MAY, reported at scale the mare was reluctant to stretch out fully on the sand surface, and in addition in his opinion resented the addition of the cross noseband in todays’ event. This was brought to the attention of trainer R Bradshaw.

When questioned regarding the overall poor performance of KOROVUTO, trainer Ian Jackson advised it was his intention to retire the gelding from racing. Stewards advised connections that KUROVUTO would be required to trial however if these circumstances were to change.

B El-Issa, rider of COMMANDS THE TRUTH, was reprimanded for striking his mount with the whip on 6 occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres.
