Prior to the start, QUATERQUALO which was kicked behind the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
MAGIC PEARL (R Hurley) which jumped away awkwardly, was tightened for room shortly after the start between SOOTY (C Dixon) and OCTDANE (J Murphy) which shifted in.
Approaching the 850m, SOOTY had to be eased from the heels of OCTDANE, which shifted in slightly.
Leaving the 800m, QUATERQUALO (M Heagney) had to be steadied when tightened for room between SHEZABIGGIRL (P Schmidt) which shifted in slightly, and NOT LEGAL (C Priest) which was taken out slightly by OCTDANE, which had a tendency to over-race. After considering all the evidence stewards could not attribute blame to any one rider and no further action was taken.
Near the 600m, MAGIC PEARL had a tendency to hang out.
Approaching the 400m, OCTDANE commenced to hang out and had to be checked off the heels of NOT LEGAL. OCTDANE continued to hang out for some distance thereafter.
CHOICES raced wide for the majority of the race.
Jockey A Merritt explained that shortly after the start HOLLY HI became unbalanced for several strides and due to this, he had to take hold of the mare and lost considerable ground at that stage and took no competitive part in the race. Trainer Mr N Coy was advised that HOLLY HI must satisfactorily complete a barrier jump out in the presence of stewards prior to the mare’s next start.
Race 2: IAN TINKER WRIGHT CLASS 3 PLATE 950M:

Passing the 600m, MR SUGARAY (B Wallace) shifted out to improve which resulted in MARDI MAGRAR being forced wider on the track. MARDI MAGRAR then raced wide for the remainder of the event.
Stewards questioned trainer Mr E Petrie in regards to the seemingly improved performance of MARAQUITAS. Mr Petrie stated that MARAQUITAS had been working well in the lead up to today’s race and had expected the mare to perform competitively. Mr Petrie further stated that the addition of blinkers on MARAQUITAS for today’s race may have also contributed to the improved performance. Stewards recorded his explanation.
A post race veterinary examination of FIRST NIGHT FEVER revealed the gelding to have sustained a sesamoid fracture in the near for limb and as a result was euthanized on humane grounds.

READY ASSET (L Karklis) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
ZADKIEL (C Kearney) and LOSTRIS (B Wallace) raced wide throughout.

Trainers’ representative Ms Campbell was advised that D’ADDARIO would be required to officially barrier trial to the stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing again.
Prior to correct weight, Apprentice C Priest the rider of 4th placegetter LADY SARAH, wished to exercise her rights to view the patrol films to see if she had grounds for a protest against FLOWER CHARIOT, which was placed 2nd by the judge.
