SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

As apprentice Tasha Chambers was ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards summary.

Race 1: CNW Suppliers Class 2 Handicap 1020m
1st – Fiery Lad 2nd - Queenofbeaudesert 3rd – Cheque For Freedom 4th – In Sha Tin

At the start, FIERY LAD (R. Hurley) shifted in and bumped BALLY KELLY (C. Eaton).

JUST CINDERS (C. Kearney) was slow to begin and lost ground.

Shortly after the start, DARK QUEEN (D. Green) was checked when tightened for room between IN SHA TIN (A. Erhart), which shifted in, and OVER THE PAGE (M. Heagney), which shifted out.

Near the 700m, IN SHA TIN was steadied when racing in restricted room between DARK QUEEN, which shifted out slightly and FREQUENT FLYER (L. Finlay).

DANES KID (P. Schmidt), FREQUENT FLYER and DARK QUEEN all raced wide throughout.

Near the 100m, OVER THE PAGE laid in under pressure and bumped IN SHA TIN.

D. Green reported to Stewards that DARK QUEEN hung out from the 600m and continued to do so for the remainder of the event. Trainer M. Wilson will be advised that a warning will be placed on the racing manners of DARK QUEEN.

A post race veterinary examination of OVER THE PAGE revealed no significant abnormalities.



Race 2: CNW Data Sales Maiden Plate 1200m
1st – De Niece 2nd – Jester Canny Go 3rd – Pamela’s Wonder 4th – Ree ‘N’ Trav

Stewards declared PREMIER CHOIX a late withdrawal at 1.44 pm acting on veterinary advice after the entire was found to lame in the near fore leg. On the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on PREMIER CHOIX be refunded in full with all successful wagers made prior to 1.44 pm, be paid less the deductions of 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 11 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Stewards advised trainer K. Martin that a veterinary clearance would be required before PREMIER CHOIX is permitted to race again.

On jumping away, BELLE SOLANGE (M. Hughes) made contact with the barrier gate resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced.

SOMERSET QUEEN (C. Kearney) shifted out and bumped NATURALBORNKISSER (B. Cornell).

POOCHIE (K. Gates) which began awkwardly was bumped a short distance later by DE NIECE (C. Eaton), which shifted out.

Near the 1100m, BELLE SOLANGE (M. Hughes) commenced to buck and dislodged its rider, the rider less BELLE SOLANGE then shifted in abruptly and made heavy contact with PAMELA’S WONDER (D. Green) which in turn shifted in and bumped YOUSNOOZEYOULOSE (L. Finlay), in this incident D. Green the rider of PAMELA’S WONDE became unbalanced and was nearly dislodged. Trainer G. Thompson was advised that BELLE SOLANGE would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before being permitted to race again.

Near the 1100m, POOCHIE and DE NIECE were steadied when tightened for room between SOMERSET QUEEN, which shifted out slightly and REE ‘N’ TRAV (R. Hurley) which shifted in despite the effort of its rider. R. Hurley was advised to exercise care and straighten his mounts earlier than he had done on this occasion.

DE NIECE and SOMERSET QUEEN raced wide throughout.

Apprentice P. Schmidt the rider of ARGUN pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR 137(a), in that near the 100m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of YOUSNOOZEYOULOSE (L. Finlay) resulting in that runner having to be checked to avoid the heels of ARGUN. P. Schmidt was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight 31 July and to expire at midnight, 12 August.

Apprentice K. Gates, the rider of POOCHIE, was questioned regarding the riding tactics she adopted in the middle stages where the horse lost ground from the main body of the field. K. Gates explained that the her instructions were not to lead and ride the filly with cover, she added that POOCHIE after beginning fairly was tightened for room a short distance later between runners and lost ground. She added that from a point leaving the 1000m, the filly was reluctant to stretch out despite her urgings and did not travel well and felt short in its action. K. Gates further added that POOCHIE did stretch out better in the straight and ran home fairly. When contacted, trainer’s representative P. MacPherson confirmed the instructions and added that he was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of POOCHIE. He added that he would undertake to have the filly looked at by a veterinarian and report to Stewards any abnormalities that would explain the performance. In accepting the explanations, Stewards reminded K. Gates of her obligations under the provisions of AR140 (b) to report to Stewards as soon as practicable anything which might have affected the running of her mount in a race.


Race 3: CNW Contractors Maiden Plate 1400m
1st – Doonbah Grey 2nd – Backup Plan 3rd – Mr Pin Wa 4th – Weslang

The start of this race was put back 15 minutes after a patron required medical assistance from ambulance officers.

BREATHLESS DANCER (C. Eaton) began awkwardly.

BACKUP PLAN (L. Finlay), NIGHT SHADOW (A. Erhart) and SUNSTANCE (N. Thomas) were all slow to begin.

VAN HOOLIGAN (C. Kearney) over raced in the early stages.

Approaching the 1200m, THAT’SWHATYOUGET (L. Appo) improved up inside WIND ZIPPER (T. Huxham) and then shifted in making contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.

Near the 1200m, BREATHLESS DANCER improved up onto the heels of TRIBUTE TO VALOUR (J. Murphy) and was checked.

LITTLE FLICKER (K. Sawyers), VAN HOOLIGAN and SUNSTANCE all raced wide throughout.

TRIBUTE TO VALOUR laid in when placed under pressure in the straight.

Approaching the finish, WESLANG was tightened for room and forced to ease when racing between MR PIN WA (G. Coleman) which shifted out and bumped WESLANG and BACKUP PLAN (L. Finlay), which laid in under pressure. Jockey L. Finlay was advised to exercise care in similar circumstances.


Race 4: CNW Cup Class 4 Handicap 1400m
1st – Forever More 2nd – Cosmic Cruz 3rd – Fantastic Carat 4th – Aurtobe

BLUEBERRY ICE (G. Coleman) stood flat footed and lost ground. Trainer R. Drysdale will be advised that a warning will be placed on the barrier manners of BLUEBERRY ICE.

TURN AND BURN (B. Johnson) and SUPER WONTON (N. Thomas) were slow to begin.

JOE EVA (C. Eaton) began awkwardly and then shifted out abruptly.

INDESEADO (K. Mizobe) raced wide from leaving the 600m.

TURN AND BURN and JOE EVA raced wide throughout.

After the winning post, STAR OF AMY (D. Tanti) had to be checked when tightened for room between AURTOBE (L. Finlay) which laid in and MR MEGS (B. Hull) which shifted abruptly out and away from FANTASTIC CARAT (L. Appo). In the circumstances, Stewards could not attribute entire blame on any one rider however, asked all riders to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

A post race veterinary examination of BLUEBERRY ICE revealed no significant abnormalities.


Race 5: CNW Aussie Owned Class B Handicap 1400m
1st – Keltic Honour 2nd – Montalbert 3rd – Hot Fosters 4th – Kingo

Trainer L. Tipper was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for HOT FOSTERS by the prescribed time.

GET UPPITY (D. Sparks), ARABIA (L. Cheshire) and KELTIC HONOUR (L. Finlay) were all slow to begin.

HOT FOSTERS (A. Erhart) and PINK GARDENIA (K. Gates) began awkwardly.

When the pace eased approaching the 700m, DEI FIORI (D. Green) improved onto the heels of MAVERICK MAN (R. Hurley) and was steadied, PE TE CRUISER (L. Appo), which was following, was also steadied as a result. A short distance later as a result of the pace easing, ARABIA and GET UPPITY had to be eased from the heels of LEGALLY PROUD (K. Ashton).

MONTALBERT (B. Johnson), PE TE CRUISER and PINK GARDENIA all raced wide throughout.

An inquiry into the reason for SHEEMON suffering interference near the 300m was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.

When asked to explain the disappointing performance of PINK GARDENIA, rider K. Gates stated that while she was caught wide throughout, the filly never traveled at any stage and was under pressure throughout. She added that when she placed PINK GARDENIA under pressure leaving the 800m, the horse failed to respond to her riding and was most disappointing. A post race veterinary examination of PINK GARDENIA revealed no significant abnormalities.

GET UPPITY (D. Sparks) was held up for clear running for a major part of the home straight and as a result was not fully tested by its rider.

L. Appo, rider of PE TE CRUISER, was reprimanded for failing to weigh in as 5th placegetter.
