GENERAL
As apprentice R.Mercer was indisposed due to illness, riding replacements were made as per the stewards race day summary.
Race 1: Beaudesert Soft Drinks Maiden Plate – 1050m
CIVIL UNION proved difficult to load. Trainer S O’Sullivan was informed a warning would be placed on the gelding.
REDARELI (D.Green) and MALIBU BELLE (I.French) began awkwardly.
I AM ROGUE (B.Powell), SHOVINE (F.Jervis), STAR SEQUALO (A.Best) and ICE ACADEMY (B.Ainsworth) all raced wide for the majority of the race.
Jockey F.Jervis reported SHOVINE got its tongue over the bit and hung out in the home straight.
Apprentice I French was afforded the opportunity to explain the disappointing performance of MALIBU BELLE. I French stated it was his intention to ride the mare in a mid to forward position. In his opinion the mare failed to handle the conditions of the track and resented kick back from other runners. MALIBU BELLE was inspected by the vet who revealed swelling in the off fore fetlock. Trainer G. Osbourne (MALIBU BELLE) stated it was now his intention to retire the mare, however was informed MALIBU BELLE would require a vets certificate before being able to race again if things changed.
Following this event the track rating was downgraded to a slow 6 retrospective.
Race 2: Beaudesert Times Handicap (Class 1) – 1050m
COACH STONE was inspected pre-race by the vet and passed fit to start.
OUTBACK FORTUNE was tightened for room at the start between AFFIRMATIVE (C. McIver) and Bronco (B. Ainsworth) both of which shifted ground.
DAILY PLANET (S. Drake) and CARDWELL (A.Guilleman) raced wide throughout.
Jockey V. Venkaya was afforded the opportunity to explain the disappointing performance of COACH STONE. He stated the horse had worked well leading up to todays’ race and was of the opinion COACH STONE was not comfortable in the prevailing track conditions. Subsequently COACH STONE underwent a post-race vet examination which revealed no abnormalities.
Race 3: Evergreen Turf Handicap (Benchmark 65) – 1200m
MISHANI ACE (A. Guilleman) was slow to begin.
Jockey D. Green the rider of OFFSET PRINCE pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [AR137(a)] specifics being that at a point leaving the 800m he did allow his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of COZ HE WANTS TO (S. Sheargold) causing that rider to check his mount and lose his rightful running. Jockey D. Greens Licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by five meetings to commence midnight 23/07/2013 and expire 02/08/2013. In determining penalty stewards took into consideration D. Greens good record in regards to this charge and also his guilty plea.
Jockey B.Looker was reprimanded under [AR137(a)] for shifting out at the 100m hampering COZ HE WANTS TO (S.Sheargold). B.Looker was further reprimanded for failing to weigh in for 5th place [AR144].
Race 4 – GMV Veterinary Supplies Handicap (Benchmark 70) – 1400m
IT’S ALL HAPPENING (A.Best) and DAADS ORDER (F.Jervis) were slow to begin.
Race 5: Barrier Reef Pools Handicap (Class B) – 1650m
FLIPPIN MARVELLOUS (J.Grob) which was fractious in the barriers was removed and inspected by the vet and cleared to take its place in the field. Trainer L. Maudsley was advised a warning would be placed on FLIPPIN MARVELLOUS due to its barrier manners [AR8(t)].
At the start MAGIC OPTION (S.Fawake)was tightened for room between RIVER DANCING (B. Abbey) and FLIPPIN MARVELLOUS (J.Grob) both of which shifted ground.
ROCKING PEARL (F.Jervis) and NAKOMA STAR (A.Best) were slow to begin.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion COLOUR CODE (B.Looker), which began to over race, shifted out around STRAIGHT UP HUSTLER (B. Powell) to avoid that runners heels. As a result COLOUR CODE (B.Looker) raced very wide on the turn out of the straight.
BURN AND TURN (B.Ainsworth), COLOUR CODE (B.Looker) and LADY’S COMMAND (C. McIver) all raced wide for the majority of the race.
S Drake reported that MISTER CHICAGO hung out at various stages of the event.
FLIPPIN MARVELLOUS (J.Grob) was inclined to hang in throughout the race.
