Race 1: BEAUDESERT SOFT DRINKS CLASS 3 H’CAP - 1400M
KUTCHER (M. Gray) began awkwardly and lost considerable ground.
A. Kitson (HARDCOVER) was reprimanded for using her whip on a horse out of contention.
Race 2: QPSIG BM80 H’CAP – 1200M
KELTIC HONOUR (S. Fawke) was slow to begin.
P. Holmes reported that KARL THE GREAT hung out from the 600m and then hung in under pressure in the home straight.
KATIKA (L. Cheshire) was held up passing the 400m.
A post-race veterinary examination of I’M GOOD (M. Palmer), which compounded over the final 400m, revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. As this was I’M GOOD’s second bleeding attack, the gelding was barred from racing again.
Race 3: EVERGREEN MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
CAJUN CAT (C. Whiteley) began awkwardly.
SUPER SORTED (J. Morris) began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped ROCK THE ENEMY (M. McKenzie).
CAJUN CAT raced greenly throughout.
TIPONI FORCE hung out from the 800m.
Near the 250m SUPER SORTED had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between MIGHTY SEQUALO (B. Evans), which hung out, and ROCK THE ENEMY. As a result, SUPER SORTED shifted out and made heavy contact with ROCK THE ENEMY, which was taken wider at that point. CRACKINGTHENUT (J. Kokotajlo), which was following, was inconvenienced as a consequence. CRACKINGTHENUT then raced greenly in the home straight.
When questioned as to the below market expectation performance of TIPONI FORCE, jockey M. Palmer stated that the gelding was under pressure from a point leaving the 600m and in his view was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of TIPONI FORCE revealed no significant abnormalities.
B. Evans reported that MIGHTY SEQUALO hung out for the majority of the race.
Apprentice B. Ainsworth reported that LUSHY raced greenly, forcing her to round the home turn extremely wide.
Race 4: AUSTRALIA DAY RACES @ BEAUDESERT QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1100M
On returning to scale, jockey J. Morris, the rider of MISHANI GLADIATOR, the provisional winner of the race, weighed in at 58.38 kg, which, allowing for the addition of an amount of a half-kilogram permitted under AR. 143(a), was less than the weight of 59 kg allocated to the horse. Stewards, acting under that rule, therefore disqualified MISHANI GLADIATOR and declared correct weight on the following numbers:
7 – CARDICIAN – 1st
5 – AMAZING FATE – 2nd
8 – CHILLS – 3rd
2 – STORM FIGHTER – 4th
At a subsequent inquiry J. Morris was found guilty of a charge under AR. 143(b) in that after weighing out on MISHANI GLADIATOR at 59 kg, upon returning to scale he weighed in at 58.38 kg. J. Morris’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of one calendar month, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Tuesday, 31 December 2013, and expire at midnight on Friday, 31 January 2014.
CHILLS (J. Orman) jumped out at the start and bumped STYLISH DRAGON (S. Drake).
CARDICIAN (N. Evans) was slow to begin.
STYLISH DRAGON overraced in the early and middle stages.
ICE MELODY (M. Palmer) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 300m CHILLS had to be eased and blundered when tightened for room between AMAZING FATE (S. Payne) and MISHANI GLADIATOR (J. Morris), which shifted in. J. Morris was issued with a severe reprimand for permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CHILLS.
STORM FIGHTER (M. Hellyer) laid in under pressure in the home straight.
M. Palmer expressed his disappointment in the performance of ICE MELODY. He stated that the colt was inclined to hang out from a point leaving the 800m and was under pressure leaving the 500m. Jockey Palmer was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the disappointing performance.
Race 5: AUSTRALIAN MEAT HOLDINGS REUNION BM70 H’CAP – 1650M
MAGINNIS MAGEE (S. Fawke) was checked at the start when CHIDE (M. Heagney) was taken out by VIVAHEART (C. Small).
ARMA (L. Cheshire) was slow to begin.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion CHIDE, which was overracing, had to be steadied from the heels of VIVAHEART, shifted out and bumped STRUMMING (M. Palmer).
ACTING KING (B. Ainsworth) raced wide for the majority of the event.
VIVAHEART overraced for the majority of the event.
Over the concluding stages EASY LAGER (N. Evans) had to be eased when tightened for room by MAGINNIS MAGEE, which shifted in under pressure.
N. Evans reported that EASY LAGER was inclined to overrace for a considerable distance in the early and middle stages.
When questioned as to the disappointing performance of RUN JAKE RUN, jockey S. Drake was unable to offer any tangible explanation. Trainer G. Cornish was unable to offer any explanation for the performance and undertook to advise stewards of anything that comes to light in the days following the event which may have had a bearing on the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of RUN JAKE RUN revealed a small laceration to the horse’s offside elbow.
Race 6: BEAUDESERT TIMES CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M
ROMAN WATERS (B. Powell), DEMIVAL (B. Looker) and PRESIDENTIAL (J. Orman) were all tightened for room at the start between DWAN (N .Yamada) and KING BING (A. Merritt), which shifted in. As a result, DEMIVAL and PRESIDENTIAL lost ground.
KING BING raced wide for the majority of the event.
Jockey N. Yamada was questioned as to his riding of DWAN in the middle stages of the race, particularly why he was unable to maintain his position to the inside of KING BING. Jockey Yamada stated that leaving the 700m he attempted to improve into the race inside of KING BING, however DWAN failed to respond to his riding at that point. N. Yamada added that near the 600m he was obliged to steady DWAN when tightened for room, which resulted in him losing ground at that point, between KING BING and HITMAN HARRY (J. Morris), both of which shifted marginally. N. Yamada further added that DWAN commenced to improve into the race leaving the 400m and when positioned to the outside of other runners upon straightening finished the race off well. His explanation was noted.
VALENTINE GIRL (B. Ainsworth) was held up rounding the home turn.
PRESIDENTIAL hung in under pressure in the home straight.
DEMIVAL had difficulty obtaining clear running leaving the 200m and was held up over the concluding stages.
When questioned as to the below-market performance of GINGER EXPRESS, jockey K. Yoshida stated that the mare was required to work hard in the early stages and this combined with the 59kg impost had a detrimental effect on the mare’s performance today. A post-race veterinary examination of GINGER EXPRESS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
When questioned as to the improved performance of ROMAN WATERS, trainer J. Noud stated that in its previous campaigns the mare had performed poorly first up, however had then performed well at its second-up starts. Mr Noud was therefore confident of an improved performance today. Mr Noud added that at its first-up start at the Sunshine Coast the mare was required to work hard in the early stages from a wide barrier, which he believed had a detrimental effect on its performance on that occasion. The explanation was noted.
Apprentice B. Ainsworth will be questioned at a later date as to why she returned to scale in excess of the permitted half a kilogram overweight on ACTING KING.
RACE 7: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1400M
EXCEPTION (M. Palmer) began awkwardly, lost ground and then bumped IN A HUFF (B. Looker).
CRAFTY’S LAST (L. Cheshire) was slow to begin.
BANK JOB (D. Green) and PORT RAIDER (S. Fawke) bumped on jumping away.
DINNA SIGN (B. Ainsworth) raced wide throughout.
FLYING RIDDLE (A. Merritt) shifted wider leaving the 600m, forcing SEQUAJAKE (J. Morris) and DINNA SIGN wider.
FLYING RIDDLE hung out rounding the home turn and inconvenienced SEQUAJAKE.
KISS ME KITTY (M. Gray) was held up rounding the home turn.
EXCEPTION shifted out to improve leaving the 300m, taking COUNTY GOLD (C. Whiteley) wider, which resulted in PORT RAIDER being inconvenienced. M. Palmer (EXCEPTION) was reprimanded.
CRAFTY’S LAST hung in under pressure in the home straight.
QUEEN’S LEGEND (S. Drake) shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
B. Looker reported that IN A HUFF wanted to hang out throughout.
