LITTLE KUSHI raced greenly and ran off the track making the turn leaving the 1000 metres.

Race 2: Landmark Class 3 Handicap
1st – Highly Elated 2nd – Brilliant Clang 3rd – Little Lynx 4th – Craiglea Helle

CRAIGLEA HELLE (R. Bellert) was slow to jump.

HIGHLY ELATED (T. Hall) had to be steadied shortly after the start when cramped for room by HI CATARUN (T. Brummell) was shifted in slightly.

LITTLY LYNX (B. Macdonald) hung out making the home turn.

BRILLIANT CLANG (K. Ballard) commenced to hang out near the 800 metres and continued to do so until rounding the home turn.

Race 3: Southern Cross Television Class 1 Handicap
1st – Star Blitz 2nd – Rhythm Boy 3rd – Irish Fixer 4th – Razoo
I’M A SEQUALO (Apprentice T. Hall) jumped away riderless when T Hall dismounted in the barriers when the horse was fractious, however after dismounting I’M A SEQUALO the start was affected.

SECRET FIELD (D. Lunn) was also fractious in the barriers, however D. Lunn was dislodged from SECRET FIELD shortly after jumping away.

LENNY THE LAIR (T. Brummell) was severely checked by SECRET FIELD when that horse was riderless.

After interviewing riders T. Hall, D. Lunn, T. Brummell and the starter, Mr Lewis, Stewards declared both SECRET FIELD and LENNY THE LAIR runners however it was ordered that I’M A SEQUALO was denied the opportunity of a fair start, due to the horse being riderless in the barriers and upon notification of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on I’M A SEQUALO be refunded in full and deductions made in accordance with the rules of 25c in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket, 18c in the dollar on the face value of the place ticket apply.

Stewards ruled that both SECRET FIELD and LENNY THE LAIR were afforded the opportunity of a fair start.

Race 4: Akubra QTIS Class 2 Handicap
1st – Stirling 2nd – Racer’s Return 3rd – Salty Bay / Golden Drake

MIGHTY RIVER and SUNBURNT SANTA both proved difficult to load.

The connections of MIGHTY RIVER, which was retired from the race when C. Gilby felt there was something amiss with the horse, were advised that it would have to pass a futher barrier test before racing again.

A veterinary examination following the race revealed that there were no abnormalityies with MIGHTY RIVER, however Trainer R. Hermann undertook to have further tests carried out on the horse.

Race 5: Black Toyota Open Handicap
1st – Silent Encounter 2nd – Storm Seeker 3rd – Bunreba 4th – Keep Me In Mind

C. Gilby was caught wide rounding the first turn and raced extremely wide throughout.

SILENT ENCOUNTER (B. Calkin) was badly held up for clear running round the home turn and just prior to straightening had to be severely checked off the heels of the tiring BON HERITAGE (R. Bellert).

M. Tarrant (BUNREBA) permitted his mount to shift in near the 200 metres causing STORM SEEKER (G. Davis) to be steadied and having to be eased across the heals of BUNREBA when that horse was shifting ground.

BUNREBA continued to shift ground inwards under pressure in the run to the finish.

M. Tarrant the rider of BUNREBA was severely reprimanded and advised to take greater measures to keep his mount straight in the run to the finish.

Correct weight was delayed to allow C. Gilby the rider of the 4th place getter KEEP ME IN MIND to view the film, to ascertain if he had grounds for a protest. After viewing the film, C. Gilby declined and correct weight was declared on the judges placings.

Race 6: XXXX Gold Birdsville Cup Open Handicap
1st – Monee Lane 2nd – Regulus (NZ) 3rd – Hill Billy Heaven

PAYAKARUN (K. Ballard) had to be steadied approaching the 1200 metres when the horse was inclined to race a little ungenerously in restricted room.

VAIN JOE (M. Cullen) fell near the 450 metres when racing between SMOOTHE (D. Lunn) and PAYAKARUN (K Ballard) which was taken out by REGULUS (NZ) (A. Spradau) and DANCE FOR ALL (C. Gilby).

Following an inquiry into the incident and after taking evidence from the relevant riders and viewing the available footage, the incident was considered to be a result of some slight movement from SMOOTHE (D. Lunn) at the same time as DANCE FOR ALL (C. Gilby) had shifted ground when racing to the inside of REGULUS (NZ) (A. Spradau) taking that horse out onto PAYAKARUN (D. Ballard) which was severely checked in this incident.

Stewards were unable to apportion blame to any one particular rider due to a combination of factors.

Race 7: Lynthurst Stud Class 6 Plate
1st – Mr Frisco 2nd – Strong Suit 3rd – Follow the Leader 4th – Tarcoola Midnight
No incidents.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
