Race 1: Thanks Murweh Shire Council Maiden Plate 800m
1st - Rodel 2nd – Liquid Nitrogen 3rd – Privzero 4th – Mr Fire Shoes
Apprentice N. Ogura was reprimanded for negligently sending out the incorrect saddle cloth for LIQUID NITROGEN.
Stewards permitted a late gear change of tongue tie and tail chain on for FLASH CASANOVA and for the pacifiers to be removed. T. Austin was advised to take greater care in checking of gear on horses which are having their first start for him.
After viewing the stewards' patrol footage, L. Tilley, the rider of MR FIRE SHOES, placed 4th by the Judge, lodged an objection against RODEL (G. Steele) being declared the winner, alleging interference between the 400m and 200m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the film, stewards found that whilst RODEL shifted out near the 400m despite the efforts of the rider resulting in MR FIRE SHOES shifting wider on the track, the amount of ground lost at that point did not exceed the margin between both horses at the finish, and the protest was dismissed and correct weight semaphored on the Judge's placing’s.
JUST AS SWEET (R. Faehr) stood flat footed and lost ground.
FLASH CASONOVA (C. Dixon) and SLASHING SHADOW (D. Brown) were slow to begin.
Near the 200m MR FIRE SHOES shifted to the inside of RODEL to obtain clear running.
Passing the winning post, RODEL hung out abruptly towards the outside rail. Trainer B. Sheppard was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of the gelding.
Race 2: Ted Barnsley Memorial Class 2 Handicap 800m
1st – Maximum Vision 2nd – Portion 3rd – Halfback Kid 4th – Kirkheaton
Correct weight was delayed to allow R. Kerwin (KIRKHEATON) the opportunity to view the photo finish for third placing. R. Kerwin was subsequently satisfied with the judges placing’s and correct weight was declared.
LORDLY (G. Steele) began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, LORDLY and RED DASH (R. Johnston-Bell) were severely tightened for room between LIBERTY QUEST (R. Faehr) and SARSGHI (S. Bryen) which shifted in abruptly away from KIRHEATON (R. Kerwin). In this incident LORDLY was checked and raced at the tail of the field.
Near the 400m RED DASH hung out despite the efforts of the rider taking LIBERTY QUEST outwards and inconveniencing SARSGHI.
C. Bryen, the rider of SARGSHI, which performed below market expectations, stated that his mount travelled well early however when inconvenienced near the 400m struggled to make up ground which he attributed to today’s track conditions.
Race 3: St Mary’s Students 1913 – 2013 Class B Handicap 1200m
1st – Backstreet Jack 2nd – Dassault 3rd – Unchained 4th – Lord Help Us
A pre-race veterinary examination of BACKSTREET JACK passed the gelding to start.
COONA SUPREME (D. Brown) shifted out and bumped DASSAULT (C. Bryen).
SHANNON’S COMMAND (N. Ogura) raced wide throughout.
D. Brown, the rider of COONA CREEK which performed below market expectations, stated that his mount travelled well early however near the 800m began to change stride and weaken. He added that in his opinion COONA CREEK failed to handle today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
N. Ogura the rider of 5th placed SHANNON’S COMMAND was reprimanded for failing to weigh in when required.
Race 4: CWRC Equine Swim Pool Builders Benchmark 65 Handicap 1000m
1st – Secrets Revealed 2nd – Crash Bam Boom 3rd – Ruling Heart 4th – Bonza Bronze
GENERAL SORRISO (G. Steele) began awkwardly.
SAND RULER (R. Johnston-Bell) and BENLEIGH (C. Dixon) made heavy contact at the start.
RULING HEART (N. Ogura) began awkwardly and lost ground.
Shortly after the start WHY WARRIOR (L. Tilley) was crowded for room between BENLEIGH (C. Dixon) and WHAT DO YOU WANT (R. Kerwin) when both runners shifted ground.
Near the 900m WHAT DOYOU WANT was steadied when BONZA BRONZE (S. Galvin) shifted in when not fully clear. S. Galvin was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
From near the 800m until the 600m WHY WARRIOR hung out badly forcing WHAT DO YOU WANT extremely wide on the track. Trainer W. Baker was advised that WHY WARRIOR would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of stewards.
BENLEIGH raced wide throughout.
RULING HEART laid in under pressure in the straight.
S. Egan (SECRETS REVEALED) dropped his whip near the 50m.
S. Galvin the rider of 4th placed BONZA BRONZE, was severely reprimanded for failing to weigh in when required to do so. In considering penalty, stewards considered S. Galvin’s recent good record with regards to this rule.
Race 5: St Mary’s School 100 Year Anniversary Cup Open Handicap 1000m 1st – Canadian Joy 2nd – La Cloisonne 3rd – Guns 4th – Lapel
Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to consider an application by connections that PIGTAILS be declared a non-runner on the basis that it had been denied a fair start. After viewing the patrol footage and taking evidence from trainer T. Austin, rider S. Egan and the starter, Stewards found that PIGTAILS, which had been difficult to load, began awkwardly and lost ground, had full opportunity to jump with the field and therefore declared the mare to be a runner and correct weight was declared on the Judge's placing’s.
REGAL PRINCE (N. Ogura) shifted out at the start taking CANADIAN JOY (L. Tilley) onto BOOTOOLOO (D. Brown).
A post-race veterinary examination of FIFTH LEG (R. Kerwin) which lost ground abruptly near the 700m revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer B. Waldron will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required before FIFTH LEG will be permitted to race again.
