WEATHER: Overcast. TRACK: Slow.
GENERAL:
An inquiry into the reason for Jockey W Tomsett's failure to fulfil engagements on the day was adjourned to a date and time to be fixed.

RACING
RACE 1 MAIDEN HCP. 1000 METRES - (5 STARTERS)
SMILE LIDO was slow into stride. No racing incidents to report.
RACE 2 OPEN HCP. 1000 METRES - (5 STARTERS)
AL KENNY jumped awkwardly almost dislodging rider Mark Lehmann.
Stewards questioned Sean Newton rider of KEN HE TELL with regard to his position in running in the middle stages of the event. Sean Newton stated that KEN HE TELL had blundered in soft going at the 700 metres and lost momentum hence his position to the rear of the field. KEN HE TELL had made ground from this point till the home straight where Sean Newton increased his riding vigour to further improve his position. Stewards noted these comments and bearing in mind KEN HE TELL'S final position in running reminded Sean Newton to leave no doubt in Stewards minds with regards to his riding vigour in all areas of the race in relation to his position in running.
On return to scale Jockey Sean Newton (KEN HE TELL) reported that his barrier had failed to release which resulted in his tardy start. Stewards interviewed the starter Mr R Lisle with relation to the incident and it was established that the barriers had undergone their mandatory pre-race test without mishap, but after viewing the patrol film KEN HE TELL'S barrier indeed failed to trigger in unison. The barriers were again tested prior to the next event.
