GENERAL:
An initial track inspection shortly after 11am found the track to be in good order however it commenced to shower from that time. Further track inspections during the day led to the track being declared heavy for races 4 & 5.

Race 1: MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 metres
1st: REGAL GOVERNOR 2nd: NIKK TOO 3rd: EDMOND 4th: JESSE BLUE

RUN LIKE BLAZES (S Quick) fractious in the barriers and slowly away.
An enquiry was held into an incident approaching the home turn in which RUN LIKE BLAZES (S Quick) had to steadied when JESSE BLUE (D Rewald) rolled in momentarily. MIDNIGHT RETRIEVAL (L Timson) was inconvenienced in the incident. It was found that JESSE BLUE was racing greenly and shifted ground approaching the turn. D Rewald was reminded of his responsibilities.
Following the race the track was downgraded to dead.

Race 2: CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1000 metres
1st: LET’S RECONSIDER 2nd: PIMPALA TORI 3rd: MOORABOOL FLYER 4th:
Due to the showery conditions the race was rescheduled to 1.55pm.
WHITIORA (S Quick) difficult to load.
The starter reported that the gates had failed to open for WHITIORA. This was confirmed on the video patrol and that horse was declared a non-runner. A deduction of 35c for the win was declared and all monies on that horse were ordered refunded.
Following the race the track was downgraded to slow.

Race 3: CLASS B HANDICAP – 1072 metres
1st: I LOVE MONEY 2nd: RUN LIKE BLAZES 3rd: REGAL GOVERNOR 4th: ZOOMERANG
Due to the showery conditions the race was rescheduled to 2.25pm.
REGAL GOVERNOR had a 1kg penalty imposed following its win in race 1.
Trainer Lyle Rowe advised stewards that he was not allowing apprentice T Mathieson to carry the whip on ZOOMERANG.
Following the race the track was downgraded to heavy.

Race 4: CLASS B HANDICAP - 1608 metres
1st: MYOBB STAR 2nd: HARBORD 3rd: BONARBRIDGE 4th: KACHING KACHING (NZ)
Trainer Lyle Rowe advised stewards that he was not allowing apprentice T Mathieson to carry the whip on KACHING KACHING (NZ).
Jockey D Rewald was permitted to ride FROM THE MIST 1kg overweight due to the lack of dry gear available in the rainy conditions.
Approaching the 500 metres NED’S SUGGESTION (C McIver) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FROM THE MIST (D Rewald) which commenced to lose ground.
Following the race HARBORD (C Beets) was found to be 0.7kg below his allotted weight. The bridle from that horse was placed in the scale and found to add 0.8kg which raised that horses weight to 58.1kg. Correct weight was declared. Stewards found that a second towel which had been sent out by C Beets was still in that horses stall. At a subsequent enquiry trainer Colin Hayes was charged with neglect in saddling (AR140A) and fined $100.
Due to the showery conditions the race was rescheduled to 2.50pm.

Race 5: CLASS 6 PLATE - 1608 metres
1st: COSTA AZZURRA 2nd: SPOOKYS BEACH 3rd: DUNE BUGGY 4th: LET’S GO RAW
DUNE BUGGY (C Beets) over raced in the early and middle stages giving C Beets a difficult ride.
Due to the showery conditions the race was rescheduled to 3.15pm.
