Race 1: Cook Shire Council Maiden Plate 1000m

The start of the race was delayed when a malfunction of the barriers meant the gates opened prematurely and KELLIE BE GOOD galloped a considerable distance, acting on veterinary advice Stewards declared KELLIE BE GOOD a late scratching at 1:06pm. Deductions were 27c in the win place and 0c in the place as place dividend was not paying.

Trainer G Purdy was advised that a warning would be placed on the prerace manners of FIVE SIXTY.

No incidents in running.

Race 2: Cape York Class B Handicap 1000m
1st: Vaulting Queen 2nd: Dart Head 3rd: Slipnot 4th: Always An Option

ALWAYS AN OPTION [S Pawsey] and LET’S SEE ACTION [J Kuskopf] were slow to begin.

Stewards inquired into an incident that took place at the 800m mark, where VAULTING QUEEN [P Cullen] and GENERAL BEEJAY [N Bin Yadi] had to be checked when tightened for room by SLIPNOT [I Toward] and DART HEARD [R Ryan]. After hearing the evidence and viewing the film, stewards could not find anyone culpable under the rules of racing, but each rider was nevertheless reminded to ensure enough ground before shifting in future.

Jockey S Pawsey was fined $100 under rule AR145 for returning to scale more than half a kilogram heavier on ALWAYS AN OPTION.

Race 3: Cooktown Hotel Bracelet Class 1 Handicap 1290m
1st: Pocket Watch 2nd: Haydee 3rd: Pinnacle Ridge 4th: Six Bob

LOVE THAT DRAGON [W D’Avila] was slow to begin.

SIX BOB [S Pawsey] threw its head up upon jumping.

Race 4: Auswaste QTIS Class 3 Handicap 1290m
1st: Captain Fun 2nd: Meredith 3rd: Hittamahottamus 4th: Thirty Three Large

BOLT FROM THE BLUE [N Bin Yadi] and HITTAMAHOTTAMUS [S Pawsey] were both slow to begin.

BOLT FROM THE BLUE [N Bin Yadi] raced wide throughout.

Trainer T Rowe was informed that he must change the stable return for CAPTAIN FUN, changing the horses gender from ‘stallion’ to ‘gelding’ before the gelding’s next start.

Race 5: City Class 4 Handicap 1000m
1st: Stieg 2nd: Fleur De Baie 3rd: Manhattan Skyline 4th: Nothin’ Better

MANHATTAN SKYLINE [K Stone] began awkwardly and shifted in and bumped BESIEGED [N Bin Yadi].

MONASHEE SUCCESS [M Atkinson] raced wide throughout.

Race 6: Cooktown RSL Memorial Club Cup Benchmark 75 Handicap 1290m
1st: Melaina Rose 2nd: Keen On You 3rd: Fred The Legion 4th: Physics

TOGNI [M Atkinson] was slow into stride.

Approaching the 100m, MELAINA ROSE [J Kuskopf] commenced to hang out whilst under riding which forced GENAPERU [W D’Avila] wider on the track which in turn forced GYPSY MIST [K Stone] even wider on the track and to brush the outside running rail. Apprentice Kuskopf was severely reprimanded under rule AR137a and informed that in similar circumstances she is to stop riding and straighten her mounts.
