RACE 1 CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1250 METRES 5 STARTERS
TANTIVY ROSE reared as the gates opened, losing considerable ground. CAYMAN ISLAND was slow to begin. At the 1000 metres CAPTAIN'S LASS brushed the fence when CAPTAIN ROBINSON shifted in momentarily App D Crossland (CAPTAIN ROBINSON) was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in under riding approaching the 200 metres which resulting in CAPTAIN'S LASS having to steadied around the heels of CAPTAIN ROBINSON to attempt a run.
RACE 2 CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1250 METRES 3 STARTERS
The connections of BRAVE OCTANE advised that they would instruct Jockey D Philpot to ride the mare off the pace in to-days event. Approaching the 800 metres, GIBBO shifted out forcing BRAVE OCTANE 3 wide. Jockey D Philpot (BRAVE OCTANE) was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of that mare. Jockey Philpot advised that BRAVE OCTANE was having its first start after a spell, and was of the opinion that BRAVE OCTANE would be improved by the run to-day. Mr Philpot further stated that BRAVE OCTANE was never comfortable in the going. This explanation was noted.
RACE 3 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1300 METRES 4 STARTERS
LOYALIST over raced in the early and middle stages of the event.
RACE 4 OPEN HANDICAP 1500 METRES 5 STARTERS
Apprentice Ms K Simmons was questioned as to the reason that she failed to claim her full allowance on RISING BEAT. After taking an explanation from Miss Simmons, Stewards noted same. RISING BEAT was held up for a clear run in the early stages of the straight. At the 200 metres RISING BEAT had to be eased around the heels of PREFER A TIME to obtain clear running. At the 150 metre mark, RISING BEAT had to be steadied off the heels of BULL ALLEN which shifted out.
RACE 5 CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 6 STARTERS
Trainer W Peebles (TIMELY ADVICE) was reprimanded for removing the breast plate without the permission of the Stewards ARR 118 A. Passing the 450 metres CHIEF VOODOO was momentarily tightened for room when ASTROLUSIVE which shifted in. Trainer R Johnson (OBJECTIVES) was questioned regarding the improved performance of OBJECTIVES in winning to-days event in comparison to the horses 2 previous starts at Cairns when OBJECTIVES had finished in last place. Trainer Johnson advised that OBJECTIVES suffers from stomach ulcers and he felt that this may have contributed to the horses poor performance in its previous 2 starts. Mr Johnson advised that he and undertaken treatment on veterinary advice to correct the problem. The explanation of Mr Johnson was noted and he was advised that the Stewards expected OBJECTIVES to race in a consistent manner.
