STEWARDS REPORT
CAIRNS JOCKEY CLUB
Saturday 15th September 2001

STEWARDS : Mr P.Cooper (Chairman)
Mr G.Govan, Miss J.Steele
Weather : Fine Track : Good

RACE ONE Class 6 Handicap 1250 Metres 5 Starters
Apprentice N.Homann reported that her mount GREY RAMA, over-raced from the 900mtr mark until the home turn. CLANDENT (App T.Ono) was disappointed for a clear run at the 300mtr mark to the inside of AUSSIE PROSPECTOR (F.Edwards).

RACE TWO Class 5 Handicap 1400 Metres 4 Starters
At approximately the 700mtr mark WONG SIGN (App S.Morris) was steadied and lost ground when MONGKE (D.Philpot) shifted inwards momentarily. Stewards advised Jockey Philpot to show more care in the future. Stewards also gave a clear warning Apprentice S.Morris with regard to the standard of his evidence given at the inquiry, advising Apprentice Morris that a repeat may lead to the Stewards taking much stronger action against him. MONGKE (D.Philpot) laid out under pressure over the concluding stages of the event and hampered the running of ALLEZ SLEW (App D.Crossland).

RACE THREE Class 1 Handicap 1400 Metres 9 Starters
As the gates opened WATER LEVEL (F.Edwards) jumped outwards and cannoned into MARX (App S.Morris). MARX (App S.Morris) brushed the running rail at approximately the 500mtr mark. Apprentice S.Morris dismounted from MARX when pulling up to return to the enclosure, the club’s veterinary surgeon reported that the mount was suffering from an injury to its off-fore leg. Stewards opened an inquiry into an incident which occurred from approximately the 200mtr mark until approximately the 100mtr mark of the event. After taking evidence from both Jockey M.Johnston (MACEDON AFFAIRS) and Jockey F.Edwards (WATER LEVEL) the Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed. SING MY PRAISES (C.Symons) was inspected by the clubs veterinary surgeon upon returning to the enclosure and was found to be lame in the near-fore leg.

RACE FOUR Class 2 Handicap 1250 Metres 7 Starters
Hi Ho Silver (M.Johnston) refused to jump when the gates opened and took no part in the race. After taking statements from the Starter Mr P.Doolan and after viewing the patrol footage, the Stewards deemed the horse was forwarded a fair start and according declared correct weight on the judges placings. Jockey M.Johnston received an injury to his left leg during this incident and was given medical treatment by the ambulance officials. PEAK CROSSING (C.Symons) over-raced and refused to settle from the start until the 900mtr turn.

RACE FIVE Open Handicap 1000 Metres 7 Starters
Jockey M.Johnston was unable to fulfil his riding commitment after being injured in the previous event, and was accordingly replaced as the rider of KARPANDA by Apprentice D.Crossland. As the gates opened both BE EARLY (App L.Buckingham) and CINNAMON COVE (App T.Ono) jumped outwards. EXPORTING (App S.Morris) was slow into stride.

RACE SIX Class 3 Handicap 1500 Metres 10 Starters
After receiving medical treatment from the course ambulance officers Jockey M.Johnston was able to fulfil his riding commitment on IRUKA. Apprentice L.Buckingham was advised to show more care in the future after allowing her mount BURN OFF to shift inwards upon entering the straight and inconvenience BUNDALEER (App S.Morris). Apprentice S.Morris was issued a stern reprimand for allowing his mount BUNDALEER to shift inwards over the concluding stages of the event and cause IRUKA (M.Johnston) to be checked, in issuing the reprimand the Stewards took into account that ST.CAIRNS (F.Edwards) had also contributed to this incident by shifting outwards.
