RACE 2 Maiden Plate 1000 Metres 7 Starters

Ms M Seagren was unable to make the allocated weight on Princess Bletcha. As no other senior rider was available to take the ride Ms M Seagren was replaced by apprentice G Porter. Yeats Tango (Ms D Philpot) was marginally slow to begin. The bit pulled through the filly’s mouth during the running of the race and rider Ms D Philpot was unable to ride the horse out competitively. Exsultare (Ms L Buckingham) jumped wide at barrier rise. Princess Bletcha (G Porter) could not sustain the early pace.

Unrestrain (F Edwards) was forced to angle out in the straight to obtain a clear run.

RACE 4 Class 3 Plate 1300 Metres 9 Starters

Delta Glow (J Lewis) was slow into galloping action and was being ridden along to maintain its position. At the 950 metre position Quality Success (G Porter) which was moving around in the field shifted in making contact with Look and Listen (T Ono). Delta Glow, which was trailing the run of Look and Listen, was forced to ease and lose ground. At the 600-metre position Aquilo (D Canny) shifted out to avoid the heels of horses in front. Trainer Mr G Doolan reported that Quality Success returned to scale with lacerations to the off hind leg. Consistent with having been galloped on.

RACE 5 Open Handicap 1250 Metres 8 Starters

As the gates opened Wills Secret (K Rockett) jumped out onto Blacklock (R Ryan) causing that horse to make contact with Wildie (Ms M Seagren). After travelling about 150 metres Wildie (Ms M Seagren) and Aussie Prospector (Ms K Penrose) were tightened for room. An inquiry into this incident ascertained that movement from both inside and outside of the field was responsible for a restriction of galloping room. Whilst responsibility for this incident could not be placed on any particular horse or rider, all riders were warned of their obligations to racing safety.

As the gates opened Larni (F Edwards) jumped in onto Dual Deal (D Crossland).

General
Analytical specimens were taken from all the winners. Jockey Ms M Seagren was fined $50 under the terms of AR120(b) for being overweight on Princess Bletcha. Race 2.
