FAR NORTH QLD AMA TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT FRIDAY 12/9/03

WEATHER – FINE TRACK:-GOOD RAIL – TRUE
RACE 1: MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1000 Metres – 12 Starters
Jockey E Kowald was fined $100 for failing to fulfil his engagement on MISS JACOB. Jockey S Simon replaced him. SHANACHIE (J Taylor) and TO THE TEST (K Mahoney) were both slow to begin. SHIRDECE (D Crossland) commenced to hang out approaching the 500 metres. Inside the final 50 metres UBIQUOS (J Stopps) shifted out abruptly taking TO THE TEST (K Mahoney) out onto PRINCE HAVARTI (J Lewis) which had to be checked and shifted out making heavy contact with HIGHLEIGH ROAD ( L Buckingham). Jockey K Mahoney, the rider of TO THE TEST reported that the gelding raced greenly throughout the event. ANOTHER IRGUN bled from both nostrils following the event. Trainer Y Crowther (ANOTHER IRGUN) was advised that the gelding would now incur a mandatory 3 month ban from racing under the provisions of AR 53A.
RACE 2: CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres – 14 Starters
Trainer M Crouch was fined the sum of $100 for failing to present the papers for HUGGER MUGGER. An inquiry will be held in to the reasons for ARAKHAN (NZ) (K Mahoney), HUGGER MUGGER (C Schumacher) and BETENOIRE (J Stanley) all meeting with interference near the 1000 metres. Stewards also intend to interview G Baker in to the reasons he was dislodged from his mount SURE AS leaving 1000 metres.
RACE 3: CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1250 Metres – 12 Starters
As Jockey G Baker was indisposed following his ride in Race 2, he was replaced on ZEDOLLARS by Jockey S Morris. Approaching the 1000 metres LATEALEAF (J Patton) hung out across the heels of SUNRISE ROAD (R Barone) and had to be checked. Approaching the 600 metres WISE UP (K Mahoney) shifted out and made heavy contact with ZEDAFFAIRS (A Merritt). ZEDOLLARS (S Morris) was held up momentarily approaching the home turn. ZEDOLLARS hung out badly under pressure in the home straight. At the request of the starter Mr P Doolan, Stewards delayed correct weight, to ascertain whether ALANOR KING had been afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from the Starter Mr P Doolan, Jockey Jason Taylor and viewing the patrol footage, Stewards were of the opinion that ALANOR KING had been afforded a fair start and therefore declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored. A post race veterinary examination of SUNRISE ROAD failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 4 CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres – 10 Starters
TANTALISED (J Stopps) jumped away awkwardly and shortly after, had to be steadied off the heels of SANDY SLIDE (J Patton) which shifted in slightly. Jockey P Cullen reported that his mount, SILVER NATIVE, hung out rounding the home turn. KELSO REEF (L Abbott) hung out leaving the 500 metres.
RACE 5: CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1250 Metres – 12 Starters
ANAKIE WALK (J Stanley) began awkwardly. SOUPLESE (NZ) (D Simmons) was inclined to hang out in the middle stages of the event. Jockey S Morris, the rider of VARMINT was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 100 metres he allowing that Gelding to shift out when not clear of SOUPLESSE NZ (D Simmons) resulting in D Simmons having to check SOUPLESSE (NZ) and lose his position in the race. S Morris’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 4 NQRA race meetings, to commence at midnight Saturday 13th September up to and including Friday 26th September.
RACE 6: OPEN HANDICAP – 1000 Metres – 12 Starters
SPACE PRINCE (R Ryan) broke through the Barrier Stalls prior to the event and was inspected the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start. BE EARLY (J Taylor) was inclined to hang in under pressure in the home straight. A Cox, the rider of PROSPECTOR CHIEF reported that the gelding put in a rough stride near the 100 metres when tiring.
RACE 7: OPEN HANDICAP – 1250 Metres – 11 Starters
I Toward replaced G Baker on CARBON GOLD.
FLASH TUNE (J Taylor) blundered on jumping away and lost ground.
S Morris rider of UNITE AND PROSPER was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 1000 metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of MONGKE (K Penrose) taking that horse in on to CINNAMON COVE (G Porter) which as a result forced that horse in on to CARBON GOLD (I Toward) which had to be checked. S Morris’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 6 NQRA race meetings to be served concurrently with his earlier 4 meeting suspension to commence at midnight Saturday the 13th of September and expire at midnight Tuesday the 30th of September.
RACE 8: CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres -
LE COUP (S Morris) made the 600 metre crossing awkwardly.
ALL WINNERS AND ANOTHER IRGUN WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
