Race 5: The Reef Hotel Casino Governor’s Trophy – 1250 metres
Jockey L. Morrison, the rider of JAZZOOM, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A. R. 137(a) in that near the 50 metres she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CORTIGIANA (C. Whiteley), which was taken in onto the heels of O’MEE BOY (S. Morris), checked and lost its position in the field. Jockey Morrison was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Thursday, 14th September 2006, up to and including Saturday, 23rd September 2006 (8 Queensland meetings.
Near the 100 metres SPOT OF TROUBLE (Apprentice C. McCallum) shifted out and placed SPACE DREAM (G. Kliese) in restricted racing room. O’MEE BOY (S. Morris) then shifted in under hard riding and took the running of SPACE DREAM. Jockey S. Morris, the rider of O’MEE BOY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A. R. 137(a) in that near the 100 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SPACE DREAM (G. Kliese), resulting in that horse having to be checked and lost its position in the field. Jockey Morris was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on 9th September 2006, up to and including Tuesday, 26th September 2006 (4 NQ meetings).
Race 1 – Gulf Savannah Maiden Plate – 1250 metres
1st – SPARKLING RULER 2nd – EXCELLENT LOVER 3rd – BODEREK 4th – SHOOT FIRST
FUN IN THE SUN (P. Cullen) was slow to begin.
After being placed in the barriers BODEREK (L. Morrison) became fractious and reared, then shortly after the start raced erratically for a short distance.
SHOOT FIRST (C. Whiteley), which had been fractious in the barriers, began awkwardly.
At about the 900 metres DANCE THE TANGO (F. Edwards) had to be eased and lost ground when CAPE LATAR (Apprentice C. McCallum), which was hanging out, was taken out to avoid the heels of CANNY DODGE (Apprentice S. Kaya), which also hung out badly.
Near the 500 metres CANNY DODGE (Apprentice S. Kaya) and POUND FOR POUND (G. McCarthy) hung out.
Approaching the 400 metres FUN IN THE SUN (P. Cullen) shifted out to improve and bumped DANCE THE TANGO (F. Edwards).
Race 2 – The Cairns Post Handicap 1350 metres
1st – CLARENCE PEAK 2nd – PRINCE CHALLENGER 3rd – UP TO MISCHIEF 4th – NOTHIN’ LEICA GIRL
PRINCE CHALLENGER (J. Stopps) and BARRON HUNTER (C. Whiteley) came together at the start.
On jumping ONTHEROADTONOWHERE (D. Armstrong) and EDINBURGH (Apprentice P. D’Addona) bumped.
At the start GEORGE (A. Cox) and UP TO MISCHIEF (s. Morris) brushed.
Shortly after the start ZERO TO HERO (L. Morrison) was inconvenienced when crowded for room between BARRON HUNTER (C. Whiteley), which shifted out, and GEORGE (A. Cox), which shifted in.
Rounding the turn near the 900 metres BARRON HUNTER (C. Whiteley), which was hanging badly, shifted out resulting in Jockey A. Cox, the rider of GEORGE, having to steady his mount to avoid the heels of BARRON HUNTER.
In the middle stages EDINBURGH (Apprentice P. D’Addona) raced ungenerously, resulting in ONTHEROADTONOWHERE (D. Armstrong), which was following, commencing to over-race and having to be restrained away from the heels of EDINBURGH.
Over the final 100 metres BARRON HUNTER (C. Whiteley) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.
Race 3 – Lexus Bracelet – 1250 metres
1st – DESERT STAR 2nd – HAIYAKU 3rd – YOU’RE SO DANE 4th – WHINEWOMEN’N’SONG
At the start SHUKU (L. Morrison) shifted out and bumped SERIOUS HERO (G. Kliese).
Passing the crossing near the 750 metres DEMOLITION (Apprentice C. McCallum) and SERIOUS HERO (G. Kliese) came together.
At about the 500 metres WHINEWOMEN’N’SONG (Apprentice P. D’Addona) brushed the running rail.
At approximately the 350mtr mark OVERSEAS (L.Morrison) shifted outwards to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact on more then one occasion with DESERT STAR (P.Cullen).
Jockey L. Morrison, the rider of OVERSEAS, was found guilty of a charge of foul riding under A. R. 137(a) in that at about the 350 metres she looked to her outside then drew her whip and intentionally struck the horse DESERT STAR and its rider, Jockey P. Cullen. Jockey L. Morrison was disqualified for two calendar months, to commence immediately, up to and including 9th November 2006.
Race 4 – CEC Group Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – OUR GEORGIA ROSE 2nd – LADY RAFFLES 3rd – SHE’S A SENSATION 4th – HEATHROW
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey L. Morrison, the rider of HEATHROW which finished fourth, to view the official video film of the final 50 metres, following which the stewards declared correct weight.
At the start LADY RAFFLES (F. Edwards) shifted out onto OUR GEORGIA ROSE (Apprentice P. D’Addona).
Soon after the start SPEEDY AFFAIR (J. Stopps) and RUHLMANN (G. McCarthy) were momentarily inconvenienced when obliged to race in restricted room between TRICKSWITHMIRRORS (S. Morris), which shifted in, and SHE’S A SENSATION (C. Whiteley), which shifted out.
Approaching the crossing at the 700 metres SIR TOFF (S. Watkin) had to be eased to avoid the heels of LADY RAFFLES (F. Edwards), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Jockey F. Edwards was advised that in future he must make a greater effort to protect his fellow riders.
Jockey G. McCarthy, the rider of RUHLMANN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 550 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SPEEDY AFFAIR (J. Stopps), which was checked and lost its position in the field. Jockey McCarthy was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Tuesday 14th September 2006 up to and including Sunday 24th September 2006 (7 QR meetings).
Leaving the 400 metres RUHLMANN (G. McCarthy) was checked when racing between SIR TOFF (S. Watkin) and SHE’S A SENSATION (C. Whitely), which shifted in. Jockey Whitely was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was entirely responsible for the interference to RUHLMANN. Nevertheless, he was reprimanded and advised to take more care.
Over the final 50 metres LADY RAFFLES (F. Edwards) commenced to lay out under pressure. At the same time HEATHROW (L. Morrison) laid in, resulting in that horse having to be restrained.
Race 5 – Macarthur Coal Classic Open Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – SECRET RAIN 2nd – SNICK 3rd – BICARB 4th – SAM’S DREAM
Stewards delayed the declaration of correct weight to allow Jockey A. Cox, the rider of SNICK which finished second, and Jockey P. Cullen, the rider of the winner, SECRET RAIN, to view the official video film of the final 200 metres. Subsequently stewards declared correct weight.
SNICK (A. Cox) was slow to begin.
EAGLE REIGN (G. Cullen) jumped in at the start.
At the 950 metres PAINTED UP (G. Kliese) broke down, was retired from the event and subsequently euthanased by the Club’s veterinary surgeon.
Near the 900 metres LUX (J. Stopps) shifted in slightly, taking SECRET RAIN (P. Cullen) in onto SAM’S DREAM (K. Brady), which became unbalanced and raced awkwardly for a short distance. Stewards cautioned Jockey J. Stopps and advised him to take more care in future.
Jockey G. Cullen, the rider of EAGLE REIGN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A. R. 137(a), in that near the 300 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of OVERSEAS (L. Morrison), which was checked and lost its position in the field. G. Cullen was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on 9th September 2006, up to and including 26th September 2006 (4 NQ meetings).
Jockey P. Cullen pleaded guilty to a charge under A. R. 137(c) in that as the rider of the winner, DESERT RAIN, he made a celebratory gesture with his whip prior to the finish of the race. Jockey P. Cullen was fined $100.
Race 6 – Carlton Draught Amateur Cup – 2100 metres
1st – LEGAL BRIEF 2nd – JUST CASSIDY 3rd – SUPER BLITZ 4th –
SPURIOUS
At the 900 metres SELLING STRIDES (F. Edwards) commenced to lay out.
Race 7 – One Steel Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – DIGOS 2nd – PERDEE 3rd – IMPUNITY/EMMBOWEN (DH)
CARRY ON ACE was a late withdrawal, at 1.40 p.m., by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice that the gelding had sustained a stone bruise and was lame in the off foreleg.
At about the 100 metres Jockey G. Kliese (SHANACHIE) accidentally dropped his whip.
As the start was effected OBI WAN (Apprentice P. D’Addona) shifted out and made contact with the hindquarters of BLAZING ARROW (G. Cullen), which was taken out and bumped FRAME WORK (F. Edwards), which had to be steadied.
