Race 1: LOUIE’S LIQUOR BARN MAIDEN PLATE 960M
1st – ESCURE 2nd – TRENCH DIGGER 3rd – DANCE DUCEY DANCE 4th – BARRON VALLEY
FAIRY (J. Stopps) jumped in the air at the start.
TRENCH DIGGER (P. Cullen) blundered on jumping away.
ESCURA (K. Rockett) raced greenly in the early stages of the event.
J. Felix the rider of BULL CHASER pleaded guilty to charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that approaching the 400m he permitted his mount to shift in when being insufficiently clear of ESCURA (K. Rockett) which was taken in onto CRESTAR (S. Kaya) which was checked. J. Felix’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 3 meetings to commence at midnight 12th June 2010 and to expire at midnight 25th June 2010.
Jockey I. Toward the rider of BARRON VALLEY was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that approaching the 350m he permitted his mount to shift out resulting in heavy contact being made to EASE UP GIRLIE (F. Edwards) which was buffeted between TRENCH DIGGER (P. Cullen) and BARRON VALLEY and lost its rightful running. In assessing penalty and under all the circumstances I. Toward was severely reprimanded.
Race 2: 8 WEEKS TILL CAIRNS CUP QTIS 600 2YO MAIDEN PLATE 960M
1st – RATTUS CONATUS 2nd – APACHE’S BREW 3rd – DESERTSUNPRINCESS 4th – AMAROCKING
STROM BLEU (J. Babarovich) jumped away awkwardly.
At the start, WILD POWER (J. Stopps) was tightened for room between LITTLE SHEILA (G. Kliese) and JUST NIKKI (S. Morris) both of which shifted ground.
Approaching the 300m, MISS ROAD SHOW (F. Edwards) had to be steadied when attempting to take a narrow run between ANGRY ANGUS (S. Kaya) which was inclined to lay in and away from JUST NIKKI (S. Morris) and DAYLITEROBBERY (P. Cullen) which shifted out slightly.
A post race veterinary examination of STROM BLEU failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
A post race veterinary examination of MISS PETA failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
Race 3: CAIRNS REGIONAL COUNCIL CLASS B HANDICAP 1500M
1st – DREAM SCENE 2nd – BARAMUL BULLET 3rd – DEENLESTER 4th – VICE QUEEN
DREAM SCENE (J. Felix) was slow to begin.
At the start, COLUMBIA QUEEN (F. Edwards) shifted out making contact with DEENLESTER (I. Toward).
VICE QUEEN (J. Stopps) over raced during the early and middle stages of the event and had to be continually steadied from the heels of SPECIAL WOMAN (M. Elliott).
Near the 300m, BARAMUL BULLET (K. Rockett) had to be steadied when disappointed for run between SPECIAL WOMAN (M. Elliott) and VICE QUEEN (J. Stopps) which shifted in. J. Stopps was reprimanded for careless riding.
S. Kaya the rider of EL NAVIDAD and F. Edwards the rider of COLUMBIA QUEEN were both reminded of their obligations to ride there mounts right out to the finish of the event.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the handling of BARAMUL BULLET, after taking evidence from Jockey K. Rockett and trainer Mrs T. Crossland, Stewards adjourned the matter to a time and date to be fixed.
Race 4: BE AIR CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1250M
1st – GENERAL SPARK 2nd – ALBUQUERQUE 3rd – SURPASSER 4th – GLOBAL SPIN
At the start, KONINGIN STAR (M. Atkinson) was tightened for room between SURPASSER (I. Toward) and BAR BENDER (F. Edwards) which was taken in by ALBUQUERQUE (J. Felix).
LADY SUNDRIDGE (J. Babarovich) was slow to begin.
TEVIOT WISH (P. Cullen) raced wide during the early stages of the event.
ALBUQUERQUE (J. Felix) was unable to obtain clear running the early stages of the home straight.
Race 5: PLASTA MASTA OPEN HANDICAP 960M
1st – JOHNNY 2ND – LIGHTNING MCQUEEN 3rd – KANETOSHI KING 4th – LAKEFUL
Near the 200m, the saddle packing and lead bag from GUNNERS BARRACKS was dislodged. As a result P. Cullen, rider of GUNNERS BARRACKS was unable to weigh in at the correct weight due to the loss of the packing and lead bag, and as a result Stewards disqualified GUNNERS BARRACKS from its 3rd placing and the Judge’s placings amended to read: JOHNNY – 1st LIGHTNING MCQUEEN – 2ND KANETOSHI KING – 3rd LAKEFUL – 4th. After inquiring into the circumstances surrounding the saddling of GUNNERS BARRACKS, no action was taken.
Stewards intend to inquire into the reasons for the late declaration of rider on GYPSY MIST.
GYPSY MIST (J. Felix) was slow to begin.
