Race 1: Century Cranes Class 5 Handicap - 950 metres
1st STIEG 2nd SEEK DE FORTUNE 3rd BAR ATTACK 4th - LYNDA’S NEVER LATE

FORTRUS LAD (I. Toward) bled from both nostrils during running. Trainer G. Baker was advised that, as this was the first time the gelding had bled, FORTRUS LAD will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months under A.R. 53A, and then only after performing satisfactorily over at least 1000 metres in the presence of a steward.

In the middle stages BAR ATTACK (App. B. Swaffer) hung out.

Race 2: MCT QTIS 3-Y-O Maiden Plate - 950 metres
1st SHUFFLES 2nd SMART STUFF 3rd ODE TO ME 4th - GOODNESS GRACIOUS

LATEST EDITION, which cast an off fore plate on the morning of the race and sustained a small laceration to the off foreleg, was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

TROQUET dislodged Apprentice B. Swaffer during its preliminary and galloped a considerable distance before being recaptured. The filly was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and, acting on his advice, stewards ordered the withdrawal of TROQUET at 1.35 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on TROQUET be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply.

6¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, LITTLE ANNIEROCKET
8¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, LITTLE ANNIEROCKET
7¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, WISHFUL
13¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, EDITORIALE

WISHFUL (App. S. Wiseman) was slow to begin.

VENCEREMOS (W. D’Avila) began awkwardly, then raced greenly and wide throughout.

LATEST EDITION (D. Simmons) raced greenly throughout.

Near the 800 metres SHE’S THE GOODS (C.Whiteley) improved onto the heels of LITTLEANNIEROCKET and was forced to ease.

Race 3: FGF Bitumen Maiden Handicap - 1250 metres
1st – STORM IN A RAINBOW 2nd PRINCE DAY 3rd GLAURUNG 4th - EVE’S LEGEND

The start was delayed initially when the tongue-tie on SHEZ NOT SUZIES (App.B. Swaffer) had to be re-fitted behind the barriers. The start was further delayed when DELAGO POWER (App. E. Ljung) proved difficult to load into the barriers.

CLIFFORD JOHN (I. Toward) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start RYANANDROSES (J. Dickinson) was tightened for room between STORM IN A RAINBOW (R. Thompson) and SHEZ NOT SUZIIES, which shifted in.

SHEZ NOT SUZIES raced ungenerously in the early stages whilst over-racing.

DELAGO POWER raced wide for the majority of the event.

PRINCE DAN (J. P. Stanley) raced greenly in the home straight and near the 100 metres shifted out and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of STORM IN ARAINBOW.

The club’s veterinary surgeon noted that on returning to scale RERUNNING (App. S. Wiseman) had blood present in the off side nostril. The veterinary surgeon was satisfied that the blood was a result of external trauma, and no action was taken against the mare.

Race 4: Myer Spring Fashions Class 1 Handicap – 950 Metres
1st – ALEXANDER PARADE 2nd TINGLE 3rd LET’S SEE ACTION 4th - OAKFIELD COUNT

ANGEL’S AWARD (J. Dickinson) shifted out at the start and made contact with CABJA KID (D. Hayse). ALEXANDER PARADE (App. S. Wiseman) was slow to begin.

CABJA KID , PINE ISLAND (App. E. Ljung) and BUSH VERSION (D. Simmons) raced wide throughout.

Following the race Jockey F. Edwards reported that after beginning reasonably, WILL HE FLY settled further back in the field than he had anticipated, which he attributed to the gelding racing over 950 metres today when it has been accustomed to racing over longer distances. Jockey Edwards added that when placed under pressure in the home straight the gelding ran on only fairly and proved somewhat disappointing over the concluding stages.

Race 5: Piccones Shopping Village Class 3 Plate - 1400 metres
1st GWENNIE 2nd - ELECTRIC BLUE 3rd TUTUDUMONDE4th - MISS MAGIC CHINE

TWIZZLE (L. Smith) was slow to begin and then raced wide from the 900 metres.

BAZINSKY (App. E. Ljung) raced wide until near the 800 metres, where it was able to take up a leading position

MISS MAGIC CHINE (W. D’Avila) was held up and unable to obtain clear running when attempting a run between MASTER ELLIOT (App. B. Swaffer) and TWIZZLE from rounding the home turn until near the 200 metres, where it was shifted to the outside of SPEED DRAGON to improve.

Jockey J. P. Stanley reported that after METALLIC GREY began well he anticipated being able to obtain a midfield position, however due to the strong early tempo, METALLIC GREY settled further back in the field than he had intended. Jockey Stanley added that the gelding travelled well in the early stages of the event, and from the 600 metres he attempted to obtain clear running to the inside of runners rather than shift very wide on the track at that stage of the race. Jockey Stanley said that near the 250 metres when attempting a narrow run to the inside of ALLOVER (C. McCallum), METALLIC GREY (J. P. Stanley) brushed the running rail and became unbalanced for a short distance. Jockey Stanley noted that from the 200 metres until the winning post METALLIC GREY (J. P. Stanley) was held up and unable to improve and went to the line without being fully tested.

GWENNIE (App. S. Wiseman) raced wide throughout the event.

Stewards questioned Jockey F. Edwards in relation to the performance of TUTUDUMONDE. Jockey Edwards stated that after beginning well he obtained a forward position, in accordance with the mare’s customary racing pattern. Jockey Edwards said that due to the early pressure in the race from runners drawn to his outside, he elected to allow those runners to stride forward of him in the early and middle stages. Jockey Edwards added that from the 800 metres TUTUDUMONDE dropped the bit and hence he was required to ride the mare along thereafter. Jockey Edwards said further that in the home straight TUTUDUMONDE ran on only fairly and in his opinion proved somewhat disappointing, and in his opinion may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer Ms O. Cairns expressed her disappointment with the performance of TYUTUDUMONDE. Ms Cairns added that she will monitor the recovery of the mare in the days following the event prior to making a decision as to whether the mare will be freshened up and continue with its preparation or be spelled. The explanations were noted.

Race 6: Fujitsu Airfirst BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1900 metres
1st HITTAMAHOTTAMUS 2nd TOWSER 3rd PRINCE OF SONG 4th - TOUCH OF GLORY

The start was delayed when TOUCH OF GLORY (C. Whiteley) broke through the barriers after being loaded. However, the gelding was immediately restrained, examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

Making the turn out of the home straight on the first occasion JUST BLING (App. S. Wiseman) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PROUD WARRIOR (D. Hayse) and as a result shifted wider on the track, taking TOWSER (App. B. Swaffer), which was racing to its outside, wider on the track.

Jockey L. Smith was severely reprimanded under A.R. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip on MOUNT ASPIRING in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100 metres.

Race 7: Brother Lightning Open Handicap – 950 metres
1st ERFAAN 2nd BLAME GAME 3rd MAZUKA 4th - REPROBATE 5th - ASSERTIVE ALBERT

ERFAAN (C. Whiteley) was slow to begin.

ASSERTIVE ALBERT (M. Elliott) made contact on jumping away.

In the early part of the home straight MASTER DANNY (F. Edwards) had a tendency to lay in.

Near the 100 metres THE TAKE (App. S. Wiseman) was momentarily placed in restricted room to the inside of DOYADEAL (I. Toward), which shifted in marginally when placed under pressure.

Jockey D. Hayse was reprimanded under A.R.137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip on MAZUKA in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100 metres.
