GENERAL:

All riders engaged at today’s meeting provided a sample of their breath, which returned negative results.

Late Riding Changes

As Jockey S. Pawsey was injured and unable to fulfil his engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Pawsey was advised that he must furnish a medical clearance before being permitted to ride again.

As Jockey M. Cullen was unable to fulfil his engagements for personal reasons, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: Underwood Party Hire/Ron E. Davis QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap – 1250 metres
1st – ELEMENT OF CHANCE 2nd - NEVETUS 3rd – IN HIS ELEMENT 4th – DON’T TELL PETE

Craiglea Brooke – Delayed the start when the filly was fractious in the barriers, reared and got both front legs over the side partition. Examined by the Club veterinary surgeon. On her advice the filly was a late scratching, at 1.11 p.m. Stewards directed that all bets made on CRAIGLEA BROOKE be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:

4¢ in the dollar for the win, for the winner ELEMENT OF CHANCE
7¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, ELEMENT OF CHANCE
7¢ in the dollar for the place for second, NEVETUS

Trainer K. Johnston was advised that the filly must trial before being permitted to race again.

Golden Pages – Trainer B. Williams and Jockey D. Evans were fined $100 each under A.R.140A for negligence in the saddling of the filly, in that they omitted to include the saddle cloth in the horse’s gear. Passing 900 metres shifted in, made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.

Nevetus – Held up for clear running in early part of straight and had to be steadied when disappointed for a run approaching the 200 metres.

Race 2: Yellowglen Fillies and Mares Class 2 Handicap – 950 metres
1st – SHE’S ALL OURS 2nd - JACSAID 3rd – REAL DREAMS 4th – DEE DOUBLE YOU

Moonlight Café – Delay to start when the front gate on the barrier occupied by MOONLIGHT CAFÉ opened prematurely, resulting in its rider being dislodged and the mare galloping for a considerable distance. Stewards ordered the late scratching of the mare at 1.47 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on the mare be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:

The attention of Club officials was drawn to the malfunction and remedial work was carried out on the barriers.

Rocketmountainhigh - Bumped on jumping.

She’s All Ours – At the request of the rider, examined by veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and cleared to take its place in the field. Bumped on jumping.

Jacsaid – Crowded for room shortly after start.

Real Dreams – Soon after start was crowded for room and had to be steadied.

Following the running of this race the and due to the significant delays in the first 2 races starting times for the remainder of races were amended as follows: Race 3, 2.50 p.m.; Race 4, 3.30 p.m.; Race 5 4.06 p.m.; Race 6, 4.46 p.m.; Race 7, 5.25 p.m.; Race 6, 5.55 p.m.


Race 3: - Simon George & Sons – Amateur Bracelet Class 3 Plate - 1250 metres
1st – IMBOSTERIA 2nd – SNITZEM 3rd – FOUR JAYS 4th – MORE THAN A SONG

Bilt Leica – Trainer R. Baker was interviewed relative to the gelding being reported as having been retired following its most recent start, some 400 days ago. He said that this is its first start for his stable and the horse has worked well leading into today’s event with no issues of soundness and that a forward showing was expected. He added that he attributed the gelding’s previous poor run to the heavy track conditions. The explanation was noted.

Four Jays – Slipped behind on jumping. Pulled hard throughout the middle stages.

Robbers Roost – Slipped behind on jumping.

Zatsacat – Began awkwardly.

Imbosteria – Shifted out rounding the turn near the 800 metres and bumped another runner.

Dr Pegasus – Near the 800 metres was bumped , taken outwards and became awkwardly placed on heels.

Race 4: – The Cairns Post Benchmark 75 Handicap – 1250 metres
1st – BOOM SHA LA 2nd – A FINE DROP OF RED 3rd – NEDIYM’S QUEST 4th – MIDNITE RAID

Canhedance - A pre-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which ran 5th in Race 4 at Cairns yesterday, did not reveal any abnormalities and passed the gelding fit to start.

Boom Sha La - Slipped behind on jumping.

Nediym’s Quest – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Staunch North – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages.

Race 5: - Century Cranes Class 1 Handicap – 1500 metres
1st – HENASAR 2nd – LIVINGSTON 3rd – HERE TO DASH 4th – DAZZLING LADY

Henasar – A pre-race veterinary examination of the mare, which ran 6th in Race 1 at Cairns yesterday, did not reveal any abnormalities and passed the mare fit to start.

Blue Axis – Missed the start (2 lengths). In the early part of the home straight shifted out when not quite clear. Rider advised to exercise more care.

Fast Entry – Bumped shortly after the start.

Adapted – Bumped shortly after the start.

Livingston – Buffeted between runners at the start.

Windsor Gold – Rounding the turn near the 900 metres shifted out and bumped another runner, which was taken wider on the track. In the early part of the straight had to be steadied to avoid heels of another runner, which shifted out when not quite clear.

Fast Entry - Bumped rounding the turn near the 900 metres, taken wider and then raced wide thereafter.

Frumboli – Rider reported that gelding was inclined to lay out throughout the event, placing him at a disadvantage and for this reason he desisted from riding his mount out over the concluding stages.

Wild Rumours – Rider App. L. Attard was reprimanded under A.R. 137A(ii) for using his whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100 metres, namely 7 times.

Race 6: – Carlton Mid Amateur Cup Open Handicap - 2100 metres
1st – JUNEE BOY 2nd – LADRETTO 3rd – HOT SAGA 4th – KAMARAH 5TH - PAZZESCO

The declaration of correct weight was delayed while stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey G. Kliese, the rider of LADRETTO which finished 2nd, against JUNEE BOY (W. D’Avila) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking initial evidence Jockey Kliese made application to withdraw the objection however as stewards believed that hearing was warranted the application was denied. On the evidence stewards established that over the concluding stages, JUNEE BOY shifted out towards LADRETTO for a considerable distance in the home straight however both horses had an unimpeded run to the finish. Consequently stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the judge’s numbers.


Junee Boy – Jockey W. D’Avila cautioned against making contact with connections prior to weighing in.

Strato Mostro - Slow to begin.

Stop Crying – After being caught wide in the early stages jockey allowed his mount to stride forward and assume the lead.

Elovachill – Over-raced in the early stages.

Manzanita – Near the 300 metres had to be steadied when momentarily crowded for room.

Junee Boy – For some distance in the back straight, near the 1200 metres, made contact with another runner on a number of occasions. for some distance in the home straight shifted out towards another runner

De La Dilo – Near the 1200 metres made contact with another runner on a number of occasions.

Kamarah – When the tempo slowed rounding the turn near the 900 metres, had to be steadied off the heels of runners in front.

Seafight – When the tempo slowed rounding the turn near the 900 metres had to be steadied from heels of runners in front. A short distance later again had to be steadied off heels.

Bracko Mick – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. When questioned about performance the rider explained that the horse travelled comfortably in a rearward position, in accordance with its established racing pattern, however after making a sustained wide run the gelding failed to respond to his riding and went to the finish only fairly. He added that in his opinion the gelding was stepping up significantly in class.

Race 7: – Tox Free Open Handicap - 1400 metres
1st – MOROSSA 2nd – COMIC RULER 3rd – BLAME GAME 4th – CASTLE EXPRESS

Blame Game – For some distance approaching 900 metres had to be continually steadied when racing tight to the inside of BALUSTRADE (App. J. Kuskopf), which shifted in whilst steadying. App. J. Kuskopf was reprimanded.

Barachello – Rider questioned regarding performance stated that gelding travelled comfortably throughout and when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. In his opinion gelding raced like a tired horse. Trainer E. Covell advised stewards that the gelding will now be spelled.

Castle Express – Over concluding stages improved into a narrow run between MEREDITH and MOROSSA, which shifted in marginally under pressure, resulting in gelding having to be steadied.

Morossa – Over concluding stages shifted in marginally resulting in another runner having to be steadied. Rider was advised to exercise more care.

Race 8: - Patrons Cup Sponsored by Keith & Yvonne DeLacy Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 2 Handicap - 950 metres
1st - MAINSHAFT 2nd - RICH ‘N’ FAMOUS 3rd - CRAIGLEA VANCE 4th - SHADOWS OF SIN

Read All About Me - Began awkwardly and got its head up. Raced ungenerously throughout the early stages.

Significant Choice – Shifted in at the start, taking another runner inwards onto another runner.

Straits of Gibraltar – At the start taken in onto another runner. Tightened for room between runners near the 800 metres.

Griswald - At the start bumped by another runner, which was taken inwards. Near the 800m had to be checked when tightened for room and as result blundered and lost ground. Raced in restricted room in the straight and then near the 50 metres was disappointed for a run and made contact with the hindquarters of another runner, which became momentarily unbalanced. Near the 800 metres had to be checked when crowded for room, and as a result blundered and lost ground.

Shadows of Sin – Near 50 metres bumped on hindquarters and became momentarily unbalanced.

Craiglea Vance – Crowded for room shortly after the start.

Pick And Run – Shifted out rounding home turn. Rider advised to exercise more care.

Much About – Forced to race wide rounding the home turn.
