Race 1: Combined Bookmakers Benchmark 60 Handicap – 950 metres:
1st – GLAURUNG 2nd – DIVA DIOR 3rd – ALEXANDER PARADE 4th – ARONSON
GLAURUNG – Knuckled on jumping away then was bumped by another runner.
ROSE OF CLARE – Was forced to race three wide throughout.
HEAVENLY VIEW – When questioned as to the disappointing performance, apprentice S. Wiseman stated that after beginning well the mare travelled comfortably until nearing the 600 metres but when placed under pressure from that point failed to respond to her riding. Apprentice further added that the mare was first up for some fourteen months and may benefit from today’s performance. A post – race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a poor recovery rate and mild back soreness.
Race 2: Underwood Party Hire QTIS Two-Years-Old Maiden Handicap – 950 metres:
1st – NIC’S DRAGON 2nd – TURN UP THE VOLUME 3rd – BOOK A FLIGHT 4th – PUB THUG
NIC’S DRAGON – Became fractious in the barriers, was removed then examined by the clubs veterinary surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the event.
DECLAN STYLE – Began awkwardly and was then bumped.
TURN UP THE VOLUME – Was bumped shortly after the start. Near the 150 meters shifted in under pressure and made contact with another runner.
BOOK A FLIGHT – Raced greenly in the early stages. Jumped the crossing at the 800 metres causing the jockey to become unbalanced. Near the 150 metres was bumped when another runner shifted in.
Race 3: Cairns Fencing Open Handicap Handicap – 9500 metres:
1st – HE’S A LADIES MAN 2nd – BOOM SHA LA 3rd – BESIEGED 4th – STIEG
MR BULISTA – Was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 9:30am. Trainer J. Ryan was advised that a veterinary certificate of clearance would be required before the gelding was permitted to start again.
PANECILLO – Was bumped on jumping away then slow into stride. A post – race veterinary examination of the gelding which proved somewhat disappointing did not reveal any abnormalities.
STIEG – Had a tendency to hang out rounding the home turn and throughout the home straight.
Race 4: Brazier Motti Maiden Plate – 1250 metres:
1st – SERIKOS FLYER 2nd – KING OF THEBES 3rd – WHISPERS 4th – MR WRECKER
KAROONDA – Was a late scratching at 11:50am as there was no rider available.
ADIOS AMIGOS – Jumped inwards at the start and made contact with another runner.
MAKING HEADLINES – Was bumped shortly after the start.
SERIKOS FLYER – Was bumped shortly after the start and lost ground.
Rounding the first turn near the 900 metres FAVOURED ONE had to be steadied and lost ground when MAKING HEADLINES shifted in slightly. Apprentice B. Swaffer the rider of MAKING HEADLINES was issued with a reprimand.
EFFERVESCENT – Near the 800 metres commenced to over race and had to be shifted wider on the track to avoid heels.
KING OF THEBS – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Jockey accidently dropped his whip near the 80 metre mark. Lost an off hind plate in running.
WHISPERS – Had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn and continued to do so throughout the home straight.
Race 5: Merry Xmas From CJC Benchmark 65 Handicap – 1400 metres:
1st – SINGCIELO 2nd – ARMY OF ONE 3rd – FLAG FAVOURITE 4th – CYCLONE LARRY
KANA AKA – Near the 1000 metres when the pace of the race slowed commenced to over race and had to be shifted wider on the track to avoid heels. Then continued to over race until near the 800 metres. Near the 300 meters was bumped.
CYCLONE LARRY – Near the 300 metres was bumped.
FLAG FAVOURITE – Near the 150 metres made contact with another runner when taking a tight run to the inside of another runner.
BILT LEICA – Near the 150 metres was bumped and became momentarily unbalanced.
