WEATHER – FINE TRACK – GOOD RAIL – TRUE
GENERAL:
Stewards concluded an adjourned inquiry from the 29th June, 2002 occurring during the running of race 4 at the Warwick Turf Club. A. Merritt, the rider of CANNONBALL JACK, pleaded not guilty to (was found guilty of) a charge of careless riding in that leaving the 800 meters he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of FARISIKNOW, forcing that horse in onto MEASLES, forcing that horse in onto KIMBERLEY’S HOPE resulting in that horse checking severely, which in turn tightened RIVER AFFAIR which also checked severely. A. Merritt was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight on Saturday, 20th July and will expire at midnight on Friday, 2nd August.
RACE 1: SCOTT KING INSURANCE SUPER QRIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1400m
Approaching the 200 meters TOO DARK shifted out resulting in CHOMOLUNGMA easing momentarily.
SIR KWILA commenced to hang out from the 150 meters.
RACE 2: ZURICH FINANCIAL SERVICES MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000m
At the start GENERATION GEORGE was forced to check and loose considerable ground when tightened for room between CHATA WALK, which shifted out, and TOXOPHILITE, which was forced inwards by RAISE THE LIMIT.
DASHA CHARIOT jumped out and made contact with QUALO GOLD.
DASHA CHARIOT continued to race ungenerously and hang out during the event.
Leaving the 150 meters DASHA CHARIOT shifted out abruptly causing MAR LIGURE to ease and travel wider on the track.
RACE 3: COLONIAL FIRST STATE CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000m
MANITOBA MUSIC was slow to begin.
SLASHING LOOKS jumped out and made contact with COUNTY SPIRIT forcing that horse wider.
INTERSECTION raced up onto the heals of RANGERS and was forced to ease at the 800 meters.
At approximately the 400 meters SKIP THE COFFEE shifted in resulting in SKIP THE COFFEE easing momentarily.
On the home turn COUNTY SPIRIT was inconvenienced when SLASHING LOOKS rolled out.
SLASHING LOOKS raced very ungenerously throughout the race.
Apprentice Z. Landry was issued with a severe reprimand for allowing her mount SIMONCELLO to shift in after the winning post causing COUNTY SPIRIT and TILLSZOFF to be checked and COLOSSUS to be eased.
RACE 4: SPRING FAIR COMMITTEE/SAINTS CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1200m
Approaching the 200 meters THE BOOMBA shifted in abruptly initiating heavy contact with MIGHTY RUSH, which was forced inwards.
H Richardson, trainer of TOODALOO reported that on return to the stables after the trip from the course the mare was treated for a case of colic.
RACE 5: LAVERY, ROCHE & KELLY OPEN H'CAP – 1200m
As Apprentice L. McCoy was to be overweight the following replacement was declared:
GOLDEN RUN H. Akiyama
Apprentice L. McCoy was fined $100.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by M. Dorrington, the rider of the 4th placegetter FOREST SPRITE, against FOREVER MISSED (P Spry) being declared 2nd alleging interference inside the final 150 meters. It was established that leaving the 150 meters FOREVER MISSED did commence to shift out marginally, resulting in FOREST SPRITE continuing to race to the outside of FOREVER MISSED. Stewards subsequently dismissed the objection given the margins of a nose by 1 ¾ and evidence that the rider of FOREST SPRITE was not impeded in riding his mount out.
RACE 6: CUNNINGHAM ST NEWS/F. LAVERTY MEMORIAL CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1400m
As D. craven was indisposed, stewards permitted the following replacement.

An inquiry was opened into the reason for H. Akiyama being dislodged from WILD STYLE after the finishing post. Initial statements were taken from R Kerwin the rider of CREONA DARKNESS, A Ware the rider of TELCAPRI and C Kearney the rider MUSICAL SPIN.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
