Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the scratching of XENA’S LAST ACT from Race 5 at the Beaudesert meeting on 6 June when the horse was engaged to race at Goondiwindi on that day and did not arrive on course by the required time. After taking evidence from trainer T. Gollan, and contacting RISA and having the relevant voice tapes replayed from 6 June, no action was taken after stewards confirmed that an error had been made by RISA on that date. A report from Queensland Racing regarding this matter will be forwarded to RISA.
Stewards also questioned T. Gollan regarding his conduct prior to and leaving the stewards’ room at Beaudesert on 6 June. Mr Gollan was found guilty of a charge of misconduct under AR175(q) and was fined the sum of $1000, $600 of which was suspended under Local Rule 36(h). Mr Gollan was advised of his appeal rights.
As K. Yoshida and T. Chambers were ill, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Pottingger Hay Conditioning QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden H’cap - 1300m
Ist Showhog 2nd Space Gal 3rd Bush Larrikin 4th - Craiglea Fury
Apprentice C. Dixon was fined the sum of $50 for failing to produce his Letter of Authority from his master. LR58.
Trainer M. Fleming was fined $ 100 for presenting HATTONVALE HORNET to the enclosure with incorrect gear.
NO FAULT OF MINE (A. Kitson) jumped inwards at the start, making heavy contact with BUSH LARRIKIN (B. Evans), which began awkwardly and was slow into stride.
TWOGUNDAN (S. Drake) was slow to begin.
SPACE GAL (G. Geran) and KING SALSA (C. Eaton) both began awkwardly.
Near the 1100m, BUSH LARRIKIN blundered, then commenced to overrace and was obliged to shift out off the heels of HATTONVALE HORNET (P. Wolfgram), making contact with KING SALSA and forcing that horse wider on the track.
Race 2: Howard Australia Farm Implements F & M Maiden H’cap - 1000m
Ist Etching 2nd Heiress De Anabaa 3rd Dulacca Rose 4th - Zakato
NOBLE GRAPE, which was unable to be loaded into the barriers, was declared a late scratching by stewards at 1.08 pm. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on NOBLE GRAPE were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 2 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.
Apprentice M O’Brien was fined $100 for failing to claim her full allowance. AR92(12).
ETCHING (M. O'Brien) was tightened for room on jumping away between HEIRESS DE ANABAA (K. Banks) and CHOUFRE (B. Thomson), both of which shifted ground.
SALLY SUPREME (J. Brown) was slow to begin and jumped inwards, then shortly afterwards shifted out, making contact with AMY’S SECRET (P. Wolfgram).
MOONLIGHT ZEPHYR (G. Geran) was slow to begin.
POLISH COUNTY (S. Drake) jumped outwards at the start.
Near the 900m, MOONLIGHT ZEPHYR commenced to overrace and did so for some distance and got its head in the air.
On the home turn, CHRISTMAS TREAT (C. Eaton) had to be steadied off the heels of SALLY SUPREME (J. Brown) and shifted in.
At approximately the 300m, MOONLIGHT ZEPHYR shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running.
Following the running of this event, trainer J. Thomas reported to stewards that MOONLIGHT ZEPHYR had pulled up sore. A veterinary examination revealed that the mare was sore in the off fore flexor tendon. A veterinary clearance will be required for MOONLIGHT ZEPHYR prior to its next race start.
Trainer K. Kemp reported that TSUINGS had pulled up sore after the race and would be sent for a spell. A veterinary examination revealed the horse to be shin sore. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that he would be required to produce a veterinary clearance for TSUINGS prior to its next race start.
Race 3: Jaylor Feed Mixers CG&E Maiden H’cap - 1000m
Ist Sequalo Gold 2nd Annum Al 3rd Hope Of Seven 4th- Star Of Falvalon
Connections of CAPITOL ROCK, representing trainer F. Adams, were advised that a fine of $100 would be imposed for the failure to notify a gear change for CAPITOL ROCK by the prescribed time.
Correct weight was delayed while stewards conferred with the judges after the electronic timing device failed to activate due to a power fluctuation while the race was in progress. The race was hand timed.
POLARIZE (C. Kearney) and SEQUALO GOLD (G. Geran) were slow to begin.
COUNT SYLVESTER (D. Llambias) was slow to begin.
CAPITOL ROCK (B. Thomson) commenced to hang out from the 500m until near the 50m.
On the home turn, MEDICI (N. Yamada) improved to the inside of OUR DAY WILL COME (C. Dixon) and then rolled in when tightened by that horse and made contact with COUNT SYLVESTER.
At the 200m, CAPITOL ROCK rolled out, taking ANNUM AL (J. Murphy) wider on the track.
Race 4: Agco Australia F&M Class 1 H’cap - 800m
Ist Vinnies Joy 2nd Just Cinders 3rd Ottens 4th - Bella Suzannah
The start was delayed due to SILVER SCREAMER becoming fractious in the barriers prior to the start. As a result, A LOT AT STAKE, which was in the adjoining stall, then became awkward on jumping away.
JUPITER LASS (P. Spry) jumped outwards at the start, taking SILVER SCREAMER (S. Bogenhuber) out on to A LOT AT STAKE, which was slow to begin.
JUST CINDERS (N. Evans) shifted outwards on jumping away, taking OPTIMIST PRIME (J. Brown) out on to VINNIES JOY (K. Banks), which in turn made contact with BELLA SUZANNAH (G. Geran).
BAGATELLE PARK (S.Apthorpe) began awkwardly.
BELLA SUZANNAH hung out from the 650m.
Rounding the home turn, VINNIES JOY (K. Banks) was momentarily held up for clear running on the heels of BELLA SUZANNAH.
DREAM’S COMING (C. Eaton) and JUST CINDERS hung out throughout.
G. Geran, rider of BELLA SUZANNAH, was fined $100 for returning to scale overweight.
Race 5: Challenger Track Tractors CG&E Class 1 H’cap - 800m
Ist Alloway King 2nd Clayton 3rd HOrazov 4th - Tatt’s Enough
SMOKEY MOUNTAIN, which dislodged its rider when proceeding to the barriers and completed a circuit of the course, was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 2.45 pm. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on SMOKEY MOUNTAIN were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Stewards intend to interview trainer J. Livingstone regarding the geldings pre-race manners.
TUNE UP TUESDAY (A. Taylor) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with ROCK’N BILLY REBEL (J. Brown), which began awkwardly. TUNE UP TUESDAY then raced awkwardly and got its head in the air for some distance.
TATT’S ENOUGH (C. Kearney) shifted out on jumping away, tightening WINNING BEST (E. Wilson) on to HEZA OUTLAW (G. Geran),which in turn was tightened on to IMPENETRABLE (C. Dixon). HEZA OUTLAW then hung out from that point for the remainder of the race.
Near the 400m, ROCK’N BILLY REBEL rolled in on to IMPENETRABLE (C. Dixon), which had to be steadied. At a subsequent inquiry, J. Brown, rider of ROCK’N BILLY REBEL, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift ground when not fully clear.
At the 650m, WINNING BEST (E. Wilson), when racing to the inside of HEZA OUTLAW, became awkward, striking the fence. WINNING BEST then raced ungenerously from that point onwards. At a subsequent inquiry, stewards deemed it a racing incident and took no further action. A post race veterinary examination of WINNING BEST failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 6: Simplicity Air Seeders Class 3 H’cap 1000m
Ist Pat Attack 2nd He’s Wise 3rd Silversmith 4th - Big John
JARHNNE (C. Dixon) and JOURNEY ON (K. Banks) made contact on jumping away.
VAN ROOYEN (B. Evans) was slow to begin.
BOSSIE BOY (P. Spry) was tightened for room shortly after the start between MISS ECHELON (D. Green) and WILD GLOW (J. Murphy), both of which shifted ground.
MAID READY (N. Evans) overraced in the middle stages of the race and became very awkward at heels near the 500m and raced ungenerously until rounding the home turn.
WILD GLOW (J. Murphy) was held up for clear running at the 500m.
BOSSIE BOY (P. Spry) was held up rounding the home turn for clear running.
At the 650m, BIG JOHN (A. Taylor) and JOURNEY ON (K. Banks) made contact. Shortly after, BIG JOHN and JOURNEY ON were placed in restricted room when racing between JARHNNE and MIDORI LAD (L. McCoy), both of which shifted ground.
Race 7: New Holland Class 2 H’cap - 1400
Ist Two And A Kick 2nd Kinsmate 3rd Markanyon 4th- La Joconde
Trainer G. Postle was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for SONG OF UMBRIA by the prescribed time.
Trainer N. Owen was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for FOUR WISE MEN by the prescribed time.
SHEALMA (B. Evans) jumped outwards at the start, taking PASHIONATELY YOURS (S. Richardson) out on to LA JOCONDE (N. Yamada), which in turn made contact with TURNBULL (E. Wilson).
FOUR WISE MEN (C. Dixon) was slow to begin and shifted outwards across the heels of KINSMATE (G. Geran).
Near the 600m, PASHIONATELY YOURS (S. Richardson), which was racing to the inside of LA JOCONDE, had to be steadied when the pace slowed.
TURNBULL was caught wide near the 500m.
Passing the 400m, FOUR WISE MEN had to be steadied off the heels of KINSMATE when KINSMATE shifted out to obtain clear running.
At the 300m, SHEALMA (B. Evans) was tightened for room between WINNING SPUR (C. Bryen), which was taken in by KINSMATE (G. Geran), and BROSNAN’S GOLD (M. Abe), which was taken out by LA JOCONDE, which in turn was taken out by CHET (D. Green). Stewards will interview D. Green, rider of CHET, for leaving the course without first obtaining permission from the stewards.
PASHIONATELY (S. Richardson) shifted out on the home turn, forcing CLASSIC VICTOR (K. Banks) wider.
At the same stage, TURNBULL (E. Wilson) shifted out, forcing GAME STAR (A. Taylor) extremely wide.
Near the 50m, MARKANYON (S. Bogenhuber) shifted out, resulting in SONG OF UMBRIA (D. Llambias) having to be steadied off that gelding’s heels.
Stewards admonished apprentice C. Dixon, rider of FOUR WISE MEN, for his lack of vigour over the concluding stages of the race. Stewards drew C. Dixon’s attention to his obligations under the rules to ride his mounts right out to the finish line.
Race 8: McIntosh & Son Open Flying H’cap - 1200m
Ist Ima Joker 2nd Pickastar 3rd What A Tale 4th- Burmak
WINSOME LOOT (J. Letherby) and MONO MAC (C. Dixon) both began awkwardly.
ROLLER DRUM (C. Eaton) was tightened for room on jumping away between JUNK BOND (D. Monaghan) and MOUNT VERNON (D. Mo), which jumped inwards. ROLLER DRUM lost ground in this incident.
DEPARTUNRE (B. Thomson) was slow to begin.
Near the 800m, MOUNT VERNON had to be steadied when racing to the inside of WHAT A TALE (G. Geran), which was taken in by MONO MAC.
At the 300m, BURMAK (S.Apthorpe) had to be steadied off the heels of WHAT A TALE (G. Geran) when WHAT A TALE shifted out to obtain clear running.
Near the 50m, WHAT A TALE had to be steadied off the heels of IMA JOKER (J. Brown), which shifted out.
