SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Dalby 3 October 2013 - Race 7
When interviewed regarding the improved performance of BELWINA, trainer J. Curtain stated that the mare had missed the start at Gympie recently and got back in the field before running home well. He added that he had taken the blinkers off for today’s race and applied winkers which was a significant change and that he had jumped BELWINA out in an effort to begin with the field. He further added that the mare had been working well and was expecting a forward showing. Stewards noted the explanation.
GENERAL
As S. Payne and D. Mcintosh were ill and J. Hoopert was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: TIMBER @ DALBY HOME HARDWARE QTIS 3YO H'CAP - 1000M
PUBLICITY (S. Apthorpe) was slow into stride.
ASTRO NASCENTE (L. Appo) and TAILWIND (B. Appo) were tightened for room at the start between CHILLS (R. Ride) and DUBAWI'S IMAGE (A. Holt), which shifted out.
Leaving the 800m DUBAWI'S IMAGE raced in restricted room for a short distance between PUBLICITY (S. Apthorpe) and TAILWIND, which shifted in.
Near the 550m DUBAWI'S IMAGE shifted out and made contact with CHILLS, which became awkward. ASTRO NASCENTE, which was following, had to be steadied away from the heels of DUBAWI'S IMAGE.
CHILLS shifted in under pressure in the home straight.
TAILWIND laid out from the 400m and proved difficult to ride out in the straight.
Race 2: SAY NO TO DALBY FLOOD STUDY CLASS 3H’CAP – 1000M
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer N. King for the late declaration of rider J. King for HIDDEN DUCK.
MISS MARGANI (S. Apthorpe) stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground.
ELLO ELLO (A. Taylor) was slow to begin.
HIDDEN DUCK (J. King) blundered on jumping away and shifted in making contact with STREAM OF LIGHT, which shifted out.
Approaching the 600m SPIRIT OF LIBERTY (S. Bogenhuber) hung out and when being corrected became unbalanced.
HIDDEN DUCK laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
SKYTANA (R. Ride) shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
S. Bogenhuber, the rider of SPIRIT OF LIBERTY, which performed below market expectations, stated that whilst the horse won first up over 1000m, it was unable to maintain the fast early speed and felt that the mare would be now suited over further distance than that of today's event. She added that whilst the horse found the line fairly, today's weight of 59kg may also have had a bearing on the performance.
When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of TRILLIUM, trainer B. Dais stated that he had not been disappointed with the gelding's past two runs, noting that the horse was down in grade today from its most recent run at the Sunshine Coast. He added that he believed the horse was well weighted today and that with a claiming apprentice he was confident of a forward showing.
A post-race veterinary examination of HIDDEN DUCK revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer N. King will be advised that she must produce a veterinary clearance for HIDDEN DUCK prior to its next start.
Race 3: HI CHEM PAINT @ DALBY HOME HARDWARE MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M
S. Morris informed stewards that he would be overweight and unable to fulfil his engagement on BIA MINARDI. N. Evans was substituted as the rider of that mare. Subject to any further submissions, S. Morris will be fined the sum of $100.
The declaration of correct weight was delayed when, on returning to scale, MUSICIAN (B. Appo), which finished fourth, was found to have carried less weight than it should have carried. Acting under the provisions of A.R. 143, stewards disqualified MUSICIAN for the race and correct weight was declared on the amended placing’s of: 1st FEYTALISTIC; 2nd WRITTENINTHERAIN; 3rd SUNDAE DREAMIN'; 4th DRYAZ. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice B. Appo pleaded guilty to a breach of AR. 143 and was fined $750.
ARAGON (A. Best) was slow to begin.
When the pace steadied near the 700m, WRITTENINTHERAIN (S. Apthorpe) improved on to the heels of DRYAZ (J. Orman) and had to be steadied. ROCKIN' ALISON (L. Appo), which was following, had to also be steadied as a consequence.
BIA MINARDI (N. Evans) raced wide for the majority of the event.
FEYTALISTIC (R. Ride) laid out under pressure in the home straight.
Race 4: GO WHERE THE TRADIES GO MAIDEN H'CAP - 1000M
The start of this race was delayed to enable PROXY RULER (A. Fancourt) to undergo a pre-race veterinary examination after being kicked in the enclosure. A subsequent examination passed PROXY RULER to race.
BEST MEMORY (S. Fawke) shifted out at the start, making contact with MYSTIC MEDUSA (S. Apthorpe), which was taken out and hampered COLD WAR (A. Best).
PROXY RULER and QUICK CIRCUIT (R. Ride) bumped on jumping away.
On entering the home straight SHE'S A DAZZLER (S. Bogenhuber) was momentarily held up on the heels of RHODRY (J. Orman) and then had a tendency to hang out over the final 100m of the event.
DECIBEL DAN (R. Payne) shifted out under pressure leaving the 200m and inside the 100m had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between RHODRY and SHE'S A DAZZLER when both those runners shifted marginally.
A. Best, the rider of COLD WAR, which tailed the field throughout, stated that his mount struggled to get into full stride and that he was forced to place COLD WAR under pressure from shortly after the start, however it did not respond to his riding. Trainer T. Dougall will be advised that COLD WAR will be ineligible to race at provincial TAB tracks until it establishes more competitive form in the country. A post-race veterinary examination of COLD WAR revealed no significant findings.
Race 5: DALBY HOME HARDWARD CLASS 5 H'CAP - 1400M
Trainer G. Banks was fined $200 under AR. 140A for presenting PROTO to race with incorrect gear.
Leaving the 800m ARADO (A. Fancourt) was steadied after improving to the inside of LE MAX (N. Evans) where there was doubtful room.
ALBION (A. Best), which laid in for the majority of the event, was held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.
PROTO (W. O’Connell) raced wide throughout.
ARADO was held up from the 400m until the early stages of the home straight.
Rounding the home turn SOLAR CHOICE (S. Fawke) shifted out and bumped PROTO.
Near the 150m LE MAX shifted out and bumped MODERN AL (R. Ride), which became unbalanced and shifted out, resulting in ALBION having to be steadied from the heels of that runner. An inquiry into this incident and the reasons for N. Evans leaving the course without the permission of stewards will be held at a later date.
Stewards questioned S. Fawke, the rider of SOLAR CHOICE, with regards to the performance of that runner. S. Fawke stated that he was able to obtain a forward position on the horse, however it never really travelled throughout the race and in his opinion raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination of SOLAR CHOICE revealed no significant findings. Trainer L. Clarke will be interviewed regarding the horse's performance.
Apprentice R. Ride, the rider of 3rd placegetter MODERN AL, was issued with a severe reprimand for failing to ride her mount right out to the finish. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account that this was apprentice Ride's first infringement under this rule, however advised her of the likely consequences should she offend in the future and that her actions cost her mount a placing.
Race 6: MILWAUKEE TOOLS @ DALBY HOME HARDWARD CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1000M
After viewing the stewards' patrol footage, L. Appo, the rider of 3rd placegetter BRADY 'N' ME, elected to lodge an objection against THAT'S JERRY (R. Payne) being declared the winner, alleging interference at the start and on entering the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available videos, stewards found that whilst THAT'S JERRY shifted in at the start, taking LA GRAND DERRIERE (W. O'Connell) in towards BRADY 'N' ME, which had begun a little slowly, BILLY GOAT (R. Ride), which had shifted out and made contact with BRADY 'N' ME after being bumped by PRIMROSE SKY (R. Goltz), had contributed to the interference suffered by BRADY 'N' ME. In the circumstances, stewards dismissed that part of L. Appo's objection regarding interference at the start. In relation to the alleged interference on straightening, stewards found that whilst THAT'S JERRY did shift out marginally, resulting in L. Appo having to stop riding for a stride and shift back to the inside of that runner to obtain clear running, they could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred, bearing in mind the margin separating both horses at the finish, that BRADY 'N' ME would have beaten THAT'S JERRY and therefore dismissed that objection and declared correct weight on the Judge's placing’s.
BLINKIN FUNNY (S. Bogenhuber) jumped awkwardly, losing ground.
Stewards inquired into the reason for BILLY GOAT being checked and losing ground approaching the 400m. After taking evidence from all riders involved, stewards found that PRIMROSE SKY, which had commenced to hang out from the 500m despite the efforts of its rider, made contact with BILLY GOAT, taking that runner outwards and resulting in the rider of BILLY GOAT having to check her mount when tightened between PRIMROSE SKY and CREDIT MISS (S. Fawke). As stewards were satisfied that this incident was a result of PRIMROSE SKY hanging out despite the efforts of the rider, they took no further action.
Near the 150m, BLINKIN FUNNY whilst under heavy riding, shifted in and away from BRADY ‘N’ ME and made heavy contact with the running rail and became extremely unbalanced.
When questioned with regards to the disappointing performance of PRIMROSE SKY, R. Goltz stated that the horse began well, however he was unable to obtain the lead, which the horse had done at its past two runs. He added that his mount hung out and became unbalanced from the 500m and that on pulling up he noted that the horse had got its tongue over the bit, which he believed, may explain the horse's racing manners and performance. A post-race veterinary examination of PRIMROSE SKY confirmed that the horse had returned to the enclosure with its tongue over the bit and no further abnormalities were found. Stewards will interview K. Bolton with regards to the horse's performance.
Race 7: WATTYL PAINTS @ DALBY HOME HARDWARE CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1400M
The start of this race was delayed due to the protest hearing in Race 6.
AKBAR MAHAL (L. Appo) and TUBE RIDE (R. Ride) were tightened for room at the start between OUR GRAND FINALE (A. Best) and HANNIBAL AD PORTAS (S. Bogenhuber), which shifted out.
HANNIBAL AD PORTAS, THE WATER BOMBER (S. Apthorpe), OUR GRAND FINALE and AKBAR MAHAL overraced in the early and middle stages.
HANIBAL AD PORTAS raced wide without cover.
Near the 200m STORM MAGIC was eased when crowded for room between HANIBAL AD PORTAS and OURGRAND FINALE when both runners shifted slightly. S. Bogenhuber (HANIBAL AD PORTAS) and A. Best (OUR GRAND FINALE) were advised exercise greater care when their mounts shift ground.
S. Bogenhuber (HANIBAL AD PORTAS) reported that her mount hung in in the home straight and that she was unable to pressure her mount.
R. Ride, rider of TUBE RIDE which performed below market expectations, reported that the horse got back further than she expected and due to the slowly run race, her mount was unable to make ground when pressured from the 600m and raced flat. She added that TUBE RIDE was up in grade and weight today which may have also had a bearing on the performance.
