From Dalby, 23.11.13 – Race 3
Trainer J. Bannon was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for Just A Rockstar by the prescribed time.
Stewards accepted explanation from trainer R. Mackay for the late declaration of riders for All Our Wives (R3) and Akbar (R4).

As S. Apthope and L. Tilley were indisposed, and C. Spry not riding at this meeting, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Civocon Civil & Construction Maiden H'cap - 1200m
MANAK (N. Evans) underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was subsequently cleared to race.
DINA’S DRAGON (D. McIntosh) began awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with BERTILA (R. Geran). A short distance later, DINA’S DRAGON shifted out, hampering OZICROWN (L. Appo).
CONVOY (R. Goltz) was tightened for room on jumping away between MUSICIAN (J. Orman) and MANAK (N. Evans), which shifted out.
Rounding the home turn, MUSICIAN improved on to the heels of BEST MEMORY (A. Merritt) and had to be steadied and then shifted out wider to obtain clear running.
Leaving the 200m, LUNA AZZURA (W. O’Connell) had to be steadied when tightened for room between BEST MEMORY (A. Merritt), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, and MANAK, which shifted out under pressure. N. Evans, rider of MANAK, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
CONVOY raced greenly for the majority of the event and proved difficult to ride.
SECRET OF THE ROCK was inclined to hang in in the home straight when placed under pressure.
A. Merritt reported at scale that BEST MEMORY was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
N. Tomizawa, the rider of PUMPED UP KICKS, stated that his mount was under pressure for the majority of the event and was not comfortable racing inside other runners. He added that in his opinion the gelding would be better suited over further ground.
A post race veterinary examination of MUSICIAN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Stewards will question J. Orman (MUSICIAN) with regards to the use of his whip in the home straight.
Race 2: Icon Steel/Hart Plumbing Open H'cap – 1000m
LONE ASSASSIN laid out rounding the home turn and continued to shift out under pressure in the home straight.
L. Appo, rider of the 5th placegetter I’M THE ONE, was reprimanded for failing to weigh in.
Race 3: G.J. Gardner Homes Class 2 H'cap - 1000m
RED SUIT (J. Orman) which made contact with the enclosure gate underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was subsequently cleared to race.
ALL OUR WIVES (R. Goltz) began awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with MONDUKE (N. Evans).
MAGIC OF LOVE (B. Newport) began awkwardly and was then crowded for room a short distance later between DEVER’S EXPRESS (W. O'Connell) and ON ICE NOW (N. Ogura), which shifted out.
SYDNEY PEARL (L. Appo) began awkwardly and losing ground. In this incident jockey Appo struck his left foot on the starting gate. Following the event L. Appo was attended to by the ambulance officers for a laceration to his left foot, however was subsequently cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
Approaching 550m, GINGER EXPRESS (A. Taylor) shifted out resulting in RED SUIT being steadied away from that runner.
Near the 500m, JUST A ROCKSTAR (D. McIntosh) shifted out and in doing so made contact with SYDNEY PEARL, which was forced out on to MAGIC OF LOVE (B. Newport), resulting in both SYDNEY PEARL and MAGIC OF LOVE becoming unbalanced.
Rounding the home turn, JUST A ROCKSTAR shifted out and made contact with SYDNEY PEARL.
Near the 400m, THAT’S JERRY (A. Merritt) improved up on to the heels of ALL OUR WIFES and had to be checked.
ON ICE NOW (N. Ogura) laid out under pressure in the home straight.
When questioned regarding the performance of THAT’S JERRY which performed below market expectations, rider A. Merritt stated that after being slow to begin his mount failed to show any early speed. He added that in his opinion, bearing in mind todays performance that the gelding may appreciate races over further distance.
On return to scale, N. Evans was observed to be physically distressed. After being examined by the ambulance officers, N. Evans was stood down from his remaining engagements and was advised he would be required to provide a medical clearance before riding again.
Race 4: The Dixie Cup Class 1 H'cap - 1300m
As N. Evans was stood down from his remaining engagements, J. Orman was substituted as the rider of AKBAR. Riding changes for Races 5 and 6 were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
BAMBOO HOUSE (A. Merritt) was slow to begin.
Near the 400m, COURT COUTURE (S. Bogenhuber) attempted to take a run to the inside of STEEL TO THE HEEL (W. O'Connell) where there was insufficient room and as a result had to be steadied.
Rounding the home turn, STEEL TO THE HEEL (W. O'Connell) and HE’S A REBEL (N. Tomizawa) bumped.
A. Merritt, rider of BAMBOO HOUSE, was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
Race 5: Criterion Hotel/XXXX Benchmark 70 H'cap - 1788m
MODERN AL (N. Ogura) underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to race.
At the start, BIKO (D. McIntosh) began very awkwardly and shifted out. After travelling a short distance, the saddle on BIKO rolled to the near side and the horse was subsequently eased down and took no further part in the race. D. McIntosh advised that his mount had sweated up badly prior to the race and felt that this had contributed to his saddle slipping. Stewards will interview trainer S. Stanek at a later date regarding this matter.
NESTUS (S. Bogenhuber) stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground.
ABSOLOUIE (M. Crawford) began awkwardly.
Near the 1200m, jockey N. Ogura’s (MODERN AL) off-side stirrup leather buckle broke, resulting in him becoming unbalanced and nearly being dislodged. As a result of N. Ogura losing the use of his off-side iron, he was placed at a distinct disadvantage for the remainder of the race.
OUTBACK GRANDE (R. Goltz) overraced in the early and middle stages.
Rounding the home turn, MODERN AL (N. Ogura) which was proving difficult to ride, shifted in resulting in STEPHEN GOT EVEN (B. Newport) being inconvenienced.
A. Merritt, rider of KESTHIN was fined $100 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the100m.
N. Tomizawa, rider of BLACK LEG BAY, was fined $100 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
A post-race veterinary examination of MODERN AL revealed no abnormalities other than an abrasion to the off side hip.
Race 6: Carmichael Builders Class 4 H'cap - 1400m
The start of this race was delayed when GAELSTORM was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. After interviewing rider B. Newport and considering the pre-race manners exhibited by the mare, stewards advised trainer Mr G. Baker that he would be required to officially trial GAELSTORM to the satisfaction of the stewards before it would be permitted to race again.
GAELSTORM (B. Newport) began awkwardly and lost ground.
GOLDEN TABBY (A. Taylor) and NOT WITHOUT SIN raced wide for the majority of the race.
Near the 600m, PRIVATE LABEL (N. Tomizawa) shifted out, forcing NOT WITHOUT SIN (R. Geran) wider on the track.
ITALA PRINCE (D. McIntosh) was held up for clear running from leaving the 500m until approaching the 200m.
S. Bogenhuber, rider of BLAKTAR, stated that from the wide barrier she elected to take a position in the second half of the field and ride the horse with cover. She said she felt that the horse races better when ridden in this manner and that BLAKTAR would be better suited when being stepped up over further distance.
B. Newport the rider of GAELSTORM, stated that his mount travelled well throughout, however when placed under pressure from the 400m his mount only ran on fairly from that point.
G. Geran, rider of the 4th placegetter NOT WITHOUT SIN, was fined $200 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.
