Race 1: XXXX Gold Class 1 Plate - 2000m

BOLD EMBRACE – Rider R. Ride reported on return to scale that after beginning well she obtained a forward position and as such raced in a more forward position than anticipated. She added that during the early and middle stages the mare raced very keenly and consequently weakened over the concluding stages.

JUST AS SWEET – Slow to begin.

BAJA BOY – Steadied to avoid heels for a considerable distance approaching the winning post on the first occasion.

Race 2: Hart Plumbers Maiden Plate – 1100m

Trainer V. Heading was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for ATTACK JACK by the prescribed time.

As M. O’Brien was indisposed, J. Stanley was substituted as the rider of LATCHY’S GIRL.

LATCHY’S GIRL – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

SMALL CHANGE – Slow to begin. Hung out from the 600m until rounding the home turn and as a result lost ground at that point of the race.

HONEY BE WARNED – Steadied from heels near the 600m. Held up from the 400m until rounding the home turn.

STRONG BLACK – Raced greenly in the home straight.

CONMIGO – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

ELLE STYLE – Jockey N. Evans was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the conclusion of the race.

ATTACK JACK – Suffered a significant injury to the near foreleg and was retired from the event near the 600m. Upon a veterinary examination it was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.

Race 3: D&ND Jockey Club Inc Committee Maiden Plate - 1100m

MAGIQUE HORN – Difficult to load into the barriers and began awkwardly.

STAR AMORE – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 700m.

CAVALIA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MAJIGAL – Trainer J. Hearne was questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance. He stated that the mare was first up today and was commencing its first full preparation in his stable. He advised that in preparation for today's race the mare had worked well and as such he had expected a forward showing, and further added that MAJIGAL had previously run its better races when returning from a spell. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 4: Happy Birthday Leeanne McCoy Class 3 H’cap – 1100m

COVER UP – Began awkwardly.

AMAIZING DRAGON – Improved onto heels near the 400m and had to be steadied, and then shifted wider on the track to obtain clear running.

WYLIE – Apprentice B. Stower could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than the horse raced somewhat flat today. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

WRITTENINTHERAIN - R. Payne was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts out to the conclusion of the race.

IT’S GOING TO BE GOOD – Inquiry opened regarding riding tactics. Jockey K. Yoshida advised that after being caught 3 wide in the early stages he attempted to restrain to a position one off the fence near the 800m, however as the horse was travelling strongly at that point he was unable to restrain it to a level that would have enabled him to obtain that position. He therefore added that passing the 800m he rode his mount forward in an attempt to cross runners to his inside, however when they maintained their positions to his inside he was forced to race 3 wide for the remainder of the event. Jockey Yoshida added that from the 600m the mare hung out. Stewards noted the explanation.

As B. Appo was indisposed after riding in this event and unable to fulfil his riding commitments on Hell’s Kitchen in Race 6 and The Water Bomber in Race 7, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 5: Honorary Life Members Class 2 H’cap - 1400m

SARGENOLLY – Reared at the start, making contact with the crossbar on the barriers and as a result lost considerable ground. Stewards advised trainer M. Kropp that a warning would be issued regarding the gelding’s barrier manners. A post race veterinary examination of the horse revealed a small laceration inside the horse’s mouth.

DINA’S DRAGON – Raced keenly in the early stages and near the 900m was steadied from heels. Jockey R. Goltz advised that, in his opinion, the gelding failed to handle the prevailing track conditions and proved disappointing.

M’SIEUR MONTPELIER – Raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 900m.

TUBE RIDE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

KING OF JACKS – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 6: Bunya Park Class 5 H’cap – 1300m

SPURRING SPIRIT – A pre-race veterinary examination cleared the horse suitable to race.

ESTHER CAROLINE – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Apprentice B. Stower advised that, in her opinion, her mount failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.

DEEP HEAT – Apprentice R. Ride reported to stewards that, in her opinion, the gelding did not feel entirely comfortable on the prevailing track conditions.

HELL’S KITCHEN – Slow to begin.

Race 7: Icon Steel Class 1 H’cap – 1200m

The start was delayed when JANDY GIRL was reluctant to proceed to the barriers.

BLACK SALT – Due to the prevailing track conditions stewards acceded to a request from trainer R. Morris to allow the gelding to race without pacifiers in this event. Slow to begin.

SILVER FLUTE - Slow to begin.

SEQUELENE – Hung out during the middle stages.

JANDY GIRL – Hung out during the middle stages.
