Race 1: Dalby Livestock Agents Association Maiden Plate 1000m

When SO RUBENESQUE was reluctant to proceed to the barriers, the tongue tie was removed and the mare then proceeded directly to the start. Stewards permitted the horse to race without this gear and a broadcast was made to this effect.

NEVER UNDER THREAT – raced greenly shortly after the start and shifted in abruptly and forced MYSTERY ANGEL inwards, a short distance later when being corrected, shifted out and inconvenienced LOVE NEVER DIES which was steadied from heels. Apprentice N. Ogura was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift ground. Shifted out abruptly near the 600m and inconvenienced MYSTERY ANGEL. When racing greenly near the 400m blundered on its own accord and again on two more occasions approaching the home turn. In light of the racing manners of the gelding, trainer M. Kropp was advised that NEVER UNDER THREAT would be barred from racing until it performs satisfactorily in an official trial.

BRAZEN JAKE – shortly after the start attempted to buck on two separate occasions. Trainer S. Neylon was advised that BRAZEN JAKE would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again.

EXCEEDINGLY FINE – jumped awkwardly and shifted out. When asked regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer G. Arnold stated that the mare was having its first start for his stable. He added that he had made some gear changes and that the mare had been working well leading up to todays race.

LOVE NEVER DIES – steadied from heels near the 900m.

MYSTERY ANGEL – forced inwards shortly after the start. Inconvenienced near the 600m and when shifting out commenced to hang out approaching the home turn.

Race 2: Kev Schreck Memorial Class B Handicap 1400m

ROCKTOBER was declared a late withdrawal at 12.10 pm by stewards after trainer P. Facoory advised that the gelding had injured itself in its box and was unfit to race.

The start of this race was delayed when DRYAZ proved difficult to load. Trainer R. Hilton was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of that mare.

ROWA’S MARK – jumped in the air at the start and lost ground.

BADBOYCURTIS – rider G. Geran reported that the horse knuckled on jumping away and as a result settled further back in the field than anticipated.

NOT CLOSE – raced wide throughout.

LUCKY DUCKY – shifted out at the start and bumped M’SIEUR MONTPELIER. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

HIDDEN DANCER – rider D. Green stated his mount raced with its tongue over the bit and felt that this resulted in the gelding weakening in the home straight. Trainer S. Andrew confirmed that the gelding had returned to the enclosure with its tongue over the bit and that he would now apply a tongue tie to the horse.

M’SIEUR MONTPELIER – bumped at the start. When questioned regarding her riding from approaching the home turn, apprentice R. Payne stated she raced in restricted room rounding the home turn and when a run became available near the 200m, her mount shifted out when attempting a run between DRYAZ and ROWA’S MARK resulting in her having to straighten her mount before placing it under pressure. She added that while the gelding made up ground in the straight, it did race flat and failed to show its customary sprint at the finish.

Race 3: Dalby Machinery Centre Dalby Cup Open Handicap 1400m

TRICKIN – apprentice E. Ljung stated that her mount did not appreciate the conditions of the shifting track which she felt had an effect on the performance.

ANCHOR BOLT – rider dropped the whip near the 200m.

RELEASE ME – steadied when tightened for room by TRICKIN which shifted in near the 1300m. Apprentice E. Ljung was reprimanded in this incident.

CHEATIN’ CHARLIE – laid out and was eased from heels near the 600m. Rounding the home turn was held up for clear running. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

Race 4: Ergon Energy Plough Inn Cup QTIS Weight For Age Maiden 1400m

AUBREY’S ACE – held up for clear running from the 550m until near the 450m.

O’TORIO – reared at the start and lost ground.

SEEKING LOUIE – when asked to comment on the seemingly disappointing performance, apprentice E. Ljung stated that her mount was unable to obtain its customary forward position despite her efforts and was under pressure from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

GOGERTY – Apprentice R. Vigar, when questioned regarding his riding tactics, stated that his instructions were to ride forward and not to restrain the gelding as it has dropped the bit in the past when ridden this way and as a result had not finished its races off. He added that after obtaining the lead near the 1000m he elected to position his mount off the fence in the early and middle stages as the track had cut up on the rail and felt this was an inferior part of the track. Trainer K. Kemp confirmed the instructions adding that he was specific in advising apprentice Vigar not to restrain the gelding and felt that it travelled comfortably without being pressured in the middle stages and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. Stewards advised apprentice Vigar that the tempo that he had set in the early and middle stages of the race had come under notice however bearing in mind his instructions accepted the explanations.

OUT OF THE BLUE – stood flat footed and lost ground.

Race 5: Black Toyota Benchmark 65 Handicap 1000m

DESERT LAIR – raced in restricted room near the 800m. Improved onto heels approaching the home turn and shifted out.

CONHENRI – laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.

COURT CLOWN – began awkwardly and lost ground. Steadied rounding the home turn.
