At the entrance to the straight, RUSTY STORM shifted out and brushed MR. BRANNIGAN.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DASHNG IMAGE, G. Colless stated that from its awkward alley the colt took up a good position and travelled well during the event. He advised that soon after entering the straight, DASHING IMAGE received a bump to its hind quarters from EYE IN THE SKY, which shifted out, and this tended to unbalance the horse. He added however he harbored some doubts as to whether the colt was travelling well enough at this stage to take a hand in the finish. A veterinary examination of DASHING IMAGE failed to reveal any abnormality, and a swab sample was taken from that colt.
