WEATHER - FINE TRACK - DEAD RAIL - 12M. ENTIRE TRACK


GENERAL: As L. Dittman was indisposed, the following riding replacements were approved: Race 2: THE APACHE KID - A. Erhart; Race 3. ANCORA FILA - M. Bennett; Race 7. I REIGN SUPREME - D. Spriggs.

FROM BTC MEETING, 31.7.99

Trainer L. Brazier was fined $50 for presenting KILIMANJARO with incorrect gear.


RACE 1: PRIVATE BOXES H'CAP - 1200M.

Due to transport difficulties, G. Baker was unable to fulfil his engagement on NON NEGIOTALBE and was replaced by J. Taylor.

Trainer B. Laming was advised that a warning would be issued concerning JAY ELL being fractious in the barriers.

JAY ELL and SAHARA DIGGER came together at the start.

Shortly after the start, PAST AND PRESENT was hampered between MISTY MISTER and NON NEGOTIABLE, both of which shifted ground.

At the 850m., GAO HSING jumped a shadow on the track and became unbalanced, losing ground.

Making the first turn, MISTY MISTER hung out.

ROMAN SLAVE commenced to hang out from the 600m. and trainer T. Miller was advised that ROMAN SLAVE will be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

On straightening, NON NEGOTIABLE shifted out to improve, taking SAHARA DIGGER out on to TURNERZ.

MISTY MISTER twisted its near hind plate in running.



RACE 2: JIM BYRNE H'CAP - 1200M.

SAINT HALO jumped awkwardly and shortly after was tightened between BOLD YEATS and RAE'S GOLD, which shifted in.

MR. SMUGG was slow to begin.

PRECIFIC and BUSH BALL made contact on 2 occasions passing the 600m..

Making the home turn, MR. SMUGG was momentarily held up and unable to improve, and when placed under pressure at the 300m., MR SMUGG shifted out and made contact with SAINT HALO. MR. SMUGG continued to hang out for some distance, requiring jockey M. Cahill to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Over the final 200m., THE APACHE KID was held up for clear running.



RACE 3: MEMBERS THREE-YEARS-OLD FILLIES MAIDEN H'CAP - 1200M.

Trainer J. Wade was fined $50 for failing to notify a change of gear for UNRULY BEHAVIOUR.

Trainer P. Moody was advised that IONIAN will require a further barrier test certificate after that filly proved difficult to load.

PENNILESS and UNRULY BEHAVIOUR made contact at the start.

CAMBIO and MAKE A WISH bumped on two occasions shortly after the start.

CELASTRAL was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1000m., CELASTRAL was checked when tightened for room by DENYM LASS, which shifted in and away from MINGAMOO. G. Palmer, rider of MINGAMOO, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in initially, tightening DENYM LASS.


RACE 4: BRAD STEWART H'CAP - 1200M.

On return to scale, a protest was lodged by the Chairman of Stewards on behalf of the 5th placegetter, BLESSED TYCOON, against CIDARIS being declared 4th on the grounds of alleged interference near the 200m.. After taking evidence from the parties concerned, and bearing in mind the nose margin between the relevant horses at the finish, stewards upheld Mr Griffiths' objection when they found that near the 200m. CIDARIS, which was racing greenly, shifted out under presure, hampering BLESSED TYCOON. Subsequently, the Judge's placings were amended to read: No. 3 - SANKARI - 1st; No. 8 - ROJAH VIVIAN - 2nd; No. 7 - PASHA'S GIRL - 3rd; No. 2 - BLESSED TYCOON - 4th; No. 14 - CIDARIS - 5th.

BLESSED TYCOON was slow to begin.

Approaching the first turn, both ROJAH VIVIAN and MRS. O'BE were cramped for room when SANKARI shifted in. M. Paget, rider of SANKARI, was advised in similar circumstances to exercise care when shifting ground.

C. Small reported that BENKARLA was inclined to hang out in the middle stages.

At the 300m., CIDARIS was inclined to lay in under pressure.
RACE 5: HOMETURN RESTAURANT H'CAP - 1350M.

PRINCESS ACADEMY was inspected by the club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and passed fit to race.

D. Spriggs was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FRENCH TILT. D. Spriggs advised that FRENCH TILT was under pressure at the 500m. and failed to run on and he was extremely disappointed with the mare's performance. FRENCH TILT was sent to be swabbed.

A swab sample was taken from TIROL TAVERN.


RACE 6: VO ROGUE BAR H'CAP - 1350M.

TRAVESTON CROSSING and MONGKE came together at the start, and shortly after the start, MONGKE shifted in, severely checking TRAVESTON CROSSING.

At the 800m., TRAVESTON CROSSING got its head up and lost ground.

Near the 300m., THE ORIENT EXPRESS shifted out when tiring, taking SUPRME ECHO out on to UNISHAK, which in turn was taken across the heels of DR. BARRETT. R. Morris, rider of THE ORIENT EXPRESS, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift ground. A short distance later, SUPREME ECHO continued to shift out, again hampering UNISHAK.

At the 300m., CAPTAIN IVOR shifted out to improve and made contact with the hind quarters of MONGKE, which became unbalanced and shifted out on to BRITANNICUS.

Trainer S. Cooke and jockey M. Smith-Lester were questioned regarding the improved performance of BRITANNICUS in today's event in comparison to the horse's previous run at Doomben on 17 July when BRITANNICUS finished in last position. Mrs Cook advised that at the gelding's previous run, BRITANNICUS competed on a heavy track and completely failed to handle the conditions. M. Smith-Lester confirmed the comments of S. Cook and advised that the horse was much better suited in today's track conditions. Mrs Cook gave an undertaking to stewards not to start BRITANNICUS again on heavy tracks. The explanations of both parties were noted.


RACE 7: GUNSYND GARDEN H'CAP - 1670M.

CARLTON LAD jumped away awkwardly, losing ground.

Approaching the finish line, SEA HARVEY shifted out and brushed UNAVAILABLE.

M. Pelling, rider of UNAVAILABLE, accidentally dropped his whip at the 200m..



RACE 8: MIDWEEK GROUPS H'CAP - 1110M.

WEST EXPRESS jumped away awkwardly and shifted in,taking HIDDEN HAND in on to the hind quarters of BEMUSING.

POURQUOI PAS was slow to begin.

Approaching the 900m., after initially being brushed by PEARL STAR, WEST EXPRESS shifted in, taking BEMUSING in on to VIDA CELESTE. BEMUSING then shifted out, forcing WEST EXPRESS and PEARL STAR wider.

HIDDEN HAND pulled hard in the early stages and had to be steadied off the heels of MA HELLEQUIN at the 650m..


RACE 9: TREASURY CASINO DOOMBEN DASH H'CAP - 1050M.

PLENTY OF ZIP was a late scratching at 8.15 a.m.. Trainer T. McCarthy will be interviewed in relation to the matter.

ASBEVITA, which became cast after getting its leg caught over an adjoining barrier, was withdrawn on veterinary advice at 3.58 p.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on ASBEVITA were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of successful win and place bets placed prior to the withdrawal time. Trainer D. Waller was advised that she would be required to provide a barrier test certificate for ASBEVITA prior to its next race start.

BLUE ARROW was slow to begin.

GRAEME'S CHOICE, which bled during the event, will be barred from racing for mandatory period of 3 months.

OUT BREAK was unable to obtain clear running for some distance in the straight.


RACE 10: ALAN BAILEY H'CAP - 1350M.

At the 800m., CELESTIAL ABBY, which was overracing, shifted out, hampering TRIBALLISTIC.

Near the 1100m., GUY had to be steadied away from the heels of BRIGHTER SCENE, which shifted in. WONDER ROAD, which was trailing, also had to be steadied. At the same stage, WONDER ROAD was tightened by ORAL, which shifted in. J. Powell, rider of ORAL, was advised to exercise care when shifting ground.

In the early stages of the straight CELESTIAL ABBY had difficulty obtaining clear running.

Mr R. Smythe, stable representative for the D. Duke stable, and M. Pelling were questioned concerning the disappointing performance of KNIGHT'S BARONESS. Both parties were at a loss to explain the disappointing run. M. Pelling advised that the horse was beaten from the 600m. mark. A veterinary examination of KNIGHT'S BARONESS failed to reveal any abnormality, and the mare was sent to be swabbed.


ALL WINNERS, FRENCH TILT, TIROL TAVERN AND KNIGHT'S BARONESS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
