BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 23.09.00

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr A Reardon (Chairman), Mr C Clifford, Mr C McLune, Mr R Sanders, Mr J Williamson (Cadet)

WEATHER – FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL – IN TRUE POSITION

GENERAL: As A Pattillo was to be overweight, the following riding replacements were approved:

Race 3 JUST CASSIDY J Taylor
Race 6 FETES GALANTES M Pelling
Race 7 FLAXMILL BAY S Seamer

A Pattillo was subsequently fined $200 for being overweight.

Trainer S B Laming was fined $50 for nominating DESERT PHOENIX in a 0MW event when not eligible.


RACE 1: KENNARDS HIRE H'CAP - 1350M

After passing the 1200m BLAKEHURST shifted in and made contact with HUGE YEAR. As a result HUGE YEAR then commenced to raced fiercely and passing the 1000m had to be restrained off the heels of BRILLIANCE.

When questioned as to why he restrained BRILLIANCE in the early stages, apprentice D Wheeler stated that he had been instructed to ride the gelding in a prominent position but after travelling a short distance J Stanley, the rider of SCORSESE, shifted out from behind the heels of the leader SERGRIS which resulted in him being forced to race three wide in the back straight. Apprentice Wheeler added that in hindsight it may have been better to allow BRILLIANCE to stride forward in the early stages and lead after the horse began so well.


RACE 2: CABOOLTURE RSL H'CAP - 1350M

DON’T BOTHER ME was slow to begin.

ROMANZA dwelt as the gates were released and lost ground. Trainer B Miller’s representative, Mr T Miller, was advised that a warning would be placed on ROMANZA in relation to its barrier manners.

Near the 500m MACHTIG MIHI PANIS had to be restrained off the heels of ROMANZA.

THE WRECK was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight and then was disappointed for a run between MACHTIG MIHI PANIS and the tiring TZARIST inside the 200m.

METAL MERCHANT lost its near fore plate in running.

RACE 3: KINGSTON PARK RACEWAY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1615M

Trainer F W Mitchell was fined $25 for presenting WANCHAI LADY in the enclosure without blinkers.

TRUMP OF COLOGNE, which was kicked in the chest behind the barriers, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

LOOP THE LOUP, which was restless in the barriers, was very slow to begin.

After travelling 50m AWESOME WARRIOR shifted in and inconvenienced BRAVISA.

Shortly after entering the back straight LOOP THE LOUP, which was pulling hard, shifted out abruptly off the heels of OH BLUE ANGEL.

After leaving the 700m POWER VISION hung out slightly, resulting in TRUMP OF COLOGNE being forced to race wider on the track. When TRUMP OF COLOGNE attempted to resume its position, OH BLUE ANGEL improved quickly to its inside and in doing so shifted in and made contact with JUST CASSIDY.

Shortly after entering the straight OH BLUE ANGEL attempted to shift out to improve from behind the heels of POWER VISION and in doing so made contact with TRUMP OF COLOGNE.

The connections of OH BLUE ANGEL reported that the filly sustained a laceration to the near hind leg.


RACE 4: HAMILTON HOTEL H'CAP - 1200M

GARUDA PRINCE blundered on jumping away.

Approaching the first turn IVORY ROAD shifted in and made contact with REGAL CLASS, causing both horses to become unbalanced. SIR MEAD, which was following, had to be restrained in this incident.

Making the home turn IVORY ROAD was hampered when tightened for room between SIR MEAD and BLUE GOWN which shifted out to improve.


RACE 5: POWERUP INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER H'CAP - 1350M

S Seamer was dislodged from BINALONG LASS behind the barriers. BINALONG LASS then made contact with the rail and was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to run.

FAGAN was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and passed fit to start.

ERIC jumped away awkwardly.

FAGAN shifted out on jumping away and made contact with NEVER IN DOUBT, taking that filly out on to the hind quarters of GRAND VENTURE, which then shifted in causing NEVER IN DOUBT to be checked.

Approaching the 800m ZEE, which was pulling hard, shifted out and away from the heels of GRAND VENTURE, making contact with BINALONG LASS, forcing that runner wider on the track. At the same stage GRAND VENTURE had to be steadied off the heels of RED AQUILLA.

Passing the 600m ERIC was momentarily tightened for room by GRAND VENTURE which was taken in by INAPPROPRIATE.

Near the 500m ZEE shifted in slightly, taking RED AQUILLA in on to FAGAN.

RACE 6: QUEENSLAND PINE COMPANY H'CAP - 1350M

Trainer N R Dawson was fined $25 for presenting ANNABELLE’S PRIDE in the enclosure without blinkers.

LA PHILOMENE was hampered on jumping away when buffeted between ZULULU and AL SECONDA.

Near the 800m ANNABELLE’S PRIDE shifted in and brushed the running rail.

CEREMONIAL DANCER shifted out under pressure in the straight.

When questioned S Seamer stated that REAL FORCE travelled well until placed under pressure near the 400m and failed to respond to his riding. A veterinary examination of REAL FORCE revealed the mare to be sore in the hind quarters.

RACE 7: FM104 TRIPLE M H'CAP - 1615M

FINAL FORECAST was a late scratching at 10.40 a.m. A veterinary certificate was tendered.

SMASHING PUMPKIN was slow to begin.

Passing the 800m PEDRO’S GALLANTE shifted out from behind the heels of BURRITO, which forced POCKET MY PRIDE wider on the track.

Making the home turn POCKET MY PRIDE was momentarily tightened for room between VALETTA FLYER and SMASHING PUMPKIN which shifted out.

When questioned regarding the riding tactics he adopted on BROOKLET BOY in this event, J Taylor stated that both he and trainer K Tinsley had agreed that there may not be any pace in the race and therefore elected to lead on BROOKLET BOY, however the gelding raced fiercely in front and was beaten shortly after entering the straight. Mr Tinsley confirmed the instructions with BROOKLET BOY as the horse had drawn wide and he had previously witnessed the gelding race in a forward position. Mr Tinsley was advised that in future any change of riding tactics should be notified to the stewards.

K Pope was fined $100 for weighing in in excess of 1kg overweight on VALETTA FLYER.

RACE 8: POWERHOUSE BOUTIQUE HOTEL H'CAP - 2020M

Passing the winning post on the first occasion SUPERSTEAM had to be restrained off the heels of JAMUQUA. At the same stage BOLDON shifted out taking PLATA ORA out on to SIR KRAMER, causing N Tomizawa, the rider of SIR KRAMER, to steady his mount off the heels of TURNERZ.

Approaching the 800m TURNERZ shifted in and made heavy contact with PLATA ORA.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
