WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - TRUE POSITION

The track rating was upgraded to fast at 11.20 a.m.

GENERAL: As A. Pattillo, the following replacements were approved: Race 1. ANOTHER OFFCUT - K. Pope; Race 2. OUR PRIME MOVER - B. Compton; Race 6. ALPINE WHISTLER - K. Pope; Race 7. MAGIC OF MACKAY - T. Pattillo.

Apprentice A Morrison was fined $50 for failing to adhere to a stewards' direction in that on a second occasion during the course of the day he was found to be smoking within the confines of the jockeys' room.


RACE 1: CHANDON AUSTRALIA H'CAP - 1615M.

No racing incidents.


RACE 2: ON TIME COPY CENTRE H'CAP - 1350M.

At the 450m., OUR PRIME MOVER had to be steadied when cramped for room between MANETTI and MR. CENTREFOLD, which shifted out to improve. S. Galloway, rider of MR. CENTREFOLD, was cautioned and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

A veterinary examination of MANETTI, which weakened from the 500m., failed to reveal any abnormality. Apprentice N. Tomizawa was unable to offer any explanation for the gelding's disappointing performance. Trainer G. Dawson advised that MANETTI was an extremely consistent horse and that today's performance was out of character. Mr Dawson also noted that MANETTI had pulled up a little more distressed than normal and he was of the view that the gelding may have got its tongue back during the race. Mr Dawson undertook to report to stewards if any abnormality became apparent in the days subsequent to the race, and also advised that he intended to experiment with a tongue tie on MANETTTI on the training track.



RACE 3: OZSPORTS H'CAP - 1200M.

BLUE SNAKE jumped outwards at the start, inconveniencing KIRIN LADY and IN OUR TIME, and in turn causing GRANDVITA, which was a little slow to begin, to be checked.

In the early stages of the straight, SUNSETT was held up behind BE COOL.

After being held up behind the tiring WINNEZZAR at the entrance to the straight, GLITTERING AFFAIR was again obliged to alter course to obtain clear running passing the 100m..

Over the final 150m., PANSY raced in restricted room between KIRIN LADY and GRANLASSUE.



RACE 4: SCHWEPPES FRESHMAN SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1010M.

MAC HEART, which was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and found to be lame in the off fore foot, was declared a late scratching at 1.45 p.m..

WHISKEY BOY jumped outwards at the start and bumped LIMITED IMPULSE, which in turn contacted WHAT PRICE FUN.

Approaching the 900m., WHISKEY BOY had to be steadied when cramped for room by LIMITED IMPULSE.

A short distance later, LIMITED IMPULSE had to be checked when tightened for room by MASTER SWITCH. Whilst there was evidence that MASTER SWITCH may have been inclined to shift away from SHAROU, M. Pelling was nonetheless severely reprimanded for failing to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount shifting in.

A veterinary examination of TOMORROW RISING, which tailed off, revealed that colt to be shin sore in both forelegs.


RACE 5: EUREST CATERING H'CAP - 1200M.

Leaving the 800m., ANNUNCIATION had to be steadied off the heels of MIGHT AND GOLD, which shifted in.

A veterinary examination of SAHARA ZED, which compounded after being obliged to race wide, failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 6: PAULS H'CAP - 1200M.

Trainers G. Burns and L. Olsen were both fined $50 for failing to declare a riders for OUR BERNIE and MR. CORKS respectively by the prescribed time.

On return to scale, a protest was lodged by N. Tomizawa, rider of the 5th placegetter (CRYPTIC RED), against OUR BERNIE being declared the 2nd, alleging interference over the final 50 meters. Whilst it was established that CRYPTIC RED had to be checked over the final 50 metres as a consequence of OUR BERNIE shifting out under pressure, the protest was dismissed as stewards were not satisfied that CRYPTIC RED would have finished in advance of OUR BERNIE without suffering interference. At a subsequent inquiry, Y. Ota, rider of OUR BERNIE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that over the final 50m. she allowed her mount to shift in under pressure, resulting in CRYPTIC RED being checked. Y. Ota was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 1 November, and to expire at midnight, 12 November 2000.



Approaching the 800m., ALPINE WHISTLER raced fiercely at the heels of GENTEEL BOY.

M. Smith-Lester, rider of SIR MARKIE, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at the 100m., resulting in MR. CORKS being checked.

When questioned regarding the poor performance of CENTRE FORCE, G. Colless stated that although the gelding was obliged to race 3 wide for the majority of the event, it was nonetheless most disappointing by the way it compounded in the straight. G. Colless advised that, particularly over the final 200m., he elected to ease up on the gelding as it had become very tired. A veterinary examination of CENTRE FORCE failed to reveal any abnormality, and a swab sample was taken from the gelding. Stable foreman Mr S. Broderick agreed that the gelding had performed well below expectations and indicated that the stable were confident of its chances in today's event. He also undertook to ensure any condition which came to light in the days subsequent to the event would be reported to the stewards.


RACE 7: SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1615M.

Trainer R. Maund was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider of ENA'S TREASURE by the prescribed time.

After receiving a bump on the hind quarters from JUST CASSIDY soon after the start, ENA'S TREASURE became unbalanced and shifted in, causing WISHART and DIVER DOWN to be crowded for room.

POWER VISION made contact with WISHART when shifting out to obtain clear running inside the 300m..

A. Morrison, rider of WISHART, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in under pressure over the concluding stages, resulting in POWER VISION having to be steadied.


RACE 8: ROLL FORM INDUSTRIES H'CAP - 2100M.

PACIFIC CONNECTION had to be restrained off the heels of MISTY MISTER at the 1700m..


ALL WINNERS AND CENTRE FORCE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
