WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 10M. ALL TRACK

GENERAL: As S. Shield was indisposed, K. Pope was substituted as the rider of GLENROCK TERRY.

As N. Jolly was also indisposed, the following replacements were approved: Race 1. MORE DRAMA - N. Day; Race 2. MOET MISS - C. Reith; Race 3. ROCCINA - S. Galloway; Race 4. IMPERIAL LANDING - C. Reith; Race 6. HIS GRACE - J. Taylor.

Apprentice D. Wheeler pleaded guilty to a charge of disobeying a direction from the Chairman of Stewards issued to him on Saturday, 2 December, in that he accepted riding engagements for the QTC meeting on Saturday, 16 December prior to seeking approval from his master, trainer Mr B. Miller. D. Wheeler was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 5 meetings, to commence at midnight, 16 December, and to expire at midnight, 24 December 2000.

Apprentice D. Wheeler was fined $100 for failing to fulfill engagements on ACADEMY KING and OZZEL.

RACE 1: COURIER-MAIL H'CAP - 1200M.

Due to the arrival of the ambulance being delayed, the starting time of race 1 was rescheduled to 12.07 p.m., and race 2 to 12.30 p.m..

CONDUCT jumped awkwardly, almost dislodging S. Galloway.

Approaching the first turn, MORE DRAMA got its head up when being restrained off the heels of CHOKWE.

Shortly after entering the straight, GLENROCK TERRY shifted out to improve and made contact with STRIGHTLY NOBLE on a number of occasions.

RACE 2: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES H'CAP - 1660M.

Making the first turn, SHAREEF ROCKET, which was pulling hard, shifted in and brushed running rail.
SHAREEF ROCKET pulled hard in the middle stages.

Near the 150m., SHAREEF ROCKET shifted in slightly inconveniencing PRINCE RAUTAI.


RACE 3: DAVID CASEY H'CAP - 1200M.

DRY MARTINI jumped awkwardly, almost dislodging D. Griffin.

Approaching the first turn, BELLA DEANNA shifted in and made heavy contact with the running rail and lost ground.

ROJAH RIVER raced ungenerously in the middle stages.

At the 500m., ROJAH RIVER shifted in and brushed the running rail, resulting in J. Hoopert losing the use of his left stirrup iron for a short distance.

Near the 400m, SPY HILL shifted out abruptly resulting in UNAIDED having to be checked and shift out to avoid that horse's heels. KATE CELESTE, which was following, was checked to avoid the heels of UNAIDED. Trainer G. Ryan was advised that a warning was being placed on SPY HILL in relation to its racing manners.


RACE 4: INTERFORMS H'CAP - 1200M.

BRAVE WORDS and SHARSHE made contact on jumping away.

After being slowly away, PLAKA then commenced to race fiercely and approaching the first turn had to be checked off the heels of BRAVE WORDS and shifted out, resulting in SEA SIOUX being taken out on to TRIBAL DANCER and having to be checked.

After being hampered and forced wider on the track passing the 800m. turn, TRIBAL DANCER then commenced to hang out despite the efforts of its rider until after entering the straight. Trainer S. Jones was advised that TRIBAL DANCER would be required to barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. A veterinary examination of TRIBAL DANCER following the event failed to reveal any abnormality.

S. Seamer reported that RIP RAWING hung out in the middle stages and failed to stretch out in the straight. A veterinary examination of RIP RAWING following the event failed to reveal any abnormality.

S. Galloway, rider of AL TERZO, accidentally dropped his whip just inside the 200m..

BRAVE WORDS was forced to race wide throughout the event.


RACE 5: ALLEY'S ASPHALT H'CAP - 1040M.

ACE COOL was slow to begin.

At the 850m., LOUNGE SUITE shifted out and made contact with GRACEWICK.

Making the first turn, CITICHY shifted in, tightening the running of AXOLOTI.

After leaving the 500m., GRACEWICK hung in, resulting in LOUNGE SUITE losing considerable ground after clipping the heels of GRACEWICK. N. Tomizawa, rider of LOUNGE SUITE, was almost being dislodged in this incident. A. Pattillo, rider of GRACEWICK, was advised that whilst stewards did not deem his actions careless by riding too tight on the outside of LOUNGE SUITE, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligations to ensure runners to his inside have sufficient racing room.

R. Pittman, rider of ACE COOL, accidentally dropped his whip approaching the 200m..


RACE 6: TUTT & QUINLAN H'CAP - 1200M.

VON GALA was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, RIGHTO shifted in, inconveniencing LIFE PEER.


RACE 7: FM 104 TRIPLE M H'CAP - 1350M.

SHOMATAR jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

SCARLEX and PLANOVA came together on jumping away.

When SCARLEX steadied the pace near the 900m. after assuming the lead, JADE PRINCE had to be steadied and as a result shifted out and made contact with EVIL.

At the same stage, PLANOVA, which was racing at the rear of the field, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of JOLTIN JOE.

Near the 700m., JOLTIN JOE had to be checked off the heels of MR. VELOCHEE.

After leaving the 200m., AULD HAT had to be steadied when tightened for room by PRIMARY MOTIVE, which shifted in under pressure.

When questioned, M. Cahill stated that whilst EVIL was impeded slightly approaching the 800m. by JADE PRINCE, which shifted out, and was also forced to race 3 wide from the 600m. when SCARLEX shifted out, he was nevertheless disappointed with the performance of the gelding, which was under pressure prior to the 600m.. A veterinary examination of EVIL failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 8: FINSURE AND CREDIT UNIONS WELTER H'CAP - 1350M.

As B. Compton was indisposed after riding in race 4, S. Galloway was substituted as the rider of LIAM LAD.

After the starting gates opened for this race, assistant starter, Mr P. Donnelly communicated with the Chairman of Stewards and advised him he had not effected the start. Subsequently it was ascertained that an electrical malfunction in the starting mechanism had released the gates. As a number of horses had galloped for a considerable distance, including 5 runners which had completed a circuit of the track, stewards abandoned this race.


RACE 9: GLENLOGAN PARK STUD H'CAP - 1350M.

On return to scale, a protest was lodged by J. Byrne, rider of the 2nd placegetter, MATTY'S GIRL, against LINEA being declared the winner, alleging interference on the home turn and in the straight. After viewing the film and taking evidence from the riders concerned and M. Hawkes, stable representative for J. Hawkes, trainer of LINEA, stewards found that whilst there was slight contact between both horses on the home turn and near the 200m., they were not of the opinion that either incident warranted a reversal of placings, and the protest was dismissed and Judge's placings confirmed.
