RACE 1: MERRY CHRISTMAS H'CAP - 1010M.
On return to scale, a protest was lodged by J. Byrne, rider of the 6th placegetter, WINNING FRIENDS, against COSSEGO being declared the 5th placegetter, alleging interference on the first turn. It was established that on the first turn, COSSEGO hung out badly despite the efforts of its rider, M. Aspinall, resulting in WINNING FRIENDS and MERENA LAD being severely checked. As a consequence, J. Byrne's objection was upheld, with the placings amended to read: No. 1 - CHONG TONG - 1st; No. 3. DEVIL - 2nd; No. 2. MIGHTY STRONGHOLD - 3rd; No. 7. MELOIDIA - 4th; No. 6. He advised that STARTELL improved at the 600m. with such momentum he was content to wait and eventually track that gelding around the home turn, however these plans were thwarted when S.
