Apprentice N. Tomizawa was found guilty of a breach of AR 85(b), in that he failed to fulfil his engagement on FORCED ASHORE in race 6 at the above meeting. N. Tomizawa was fined the sum of $500..
RACE 1: MOET & CHANDON H'CAP - 1040M.
CATALINA and REAL CHIC made contact at the start.
ROYAL BOWRA was slow to begin.
Near the 800m., DIGRESS shifted out and brushed the hind quarters of CRAIGLEA GREENE.
RACE 2: QBBS H'CAP - 1040M.
SNIP 'N' SEA jumped awkwardly.
OH CHRIS and CELTIC DYNASTY were both slow to begin.
CELTIC DYNASTY was reluctant to hold its position inside OH CHRIS rounding the first turn and shifted out when being steadied off the heels of OH CHRIS.
Passing the 200m., POETIC HEIGHTS, after securing a run between SURF JESTER and WHISKEY BOY, shifted out and brushed WHISKEY BOY.
RACE 3: GLENLOGAN PARK STUD H'CAP - 1350M.
As K. Purdy was indisposed, P. Wolfgram was substituted as the rider of SENSATE FOCUS.
LIGHT SHADE and CHAPEL GREY were slow to begin.
JENIBRIA and SENSATE FOCUS made contact shortly after the start.
After leaving the 1200m., CHAPEL GREY commenced to overrace and rounding the first turn had to be checked off the heels of MAISETTE.
Near the 800m., FAITHFUL ROSE had to be steadied off the heels of JENIBRIA.
Approaching the 200m., PACIFIC VENN shifted out and momentarily tightened MAISETTE.
ORIENT PEARL was caught wide for the majority of the race.
RACE 4: FM104 TRIPLE M H'CAP - 1350M.
After passing the 200m., MACARTHUR, when shifting out to improve, brushed SQUAWKBIRD.
RACE 5: COURIER MAIL H'CAP - 1200M.
BOLD BABE was slow to begin.
N. Evans, rider of PETITE HANNA, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in shortly after the start, tightening BOSSIE GAL and RAINBOW RIBBONS.
Approaching the 600m., LILY'S BABY was tightened for room when racing inside VIVID MISS. J. Taylor, rider of VIDID MISS, was cautioned and reminded of his obligations to allow sufficient room when crossing.
M. Pelling, rider of BOLD BABE, was severely reprimanded for shifting ground approaching the 200m. when not clear of RAINBOW RIBBONS, causing that horse to be tightened for room.
RAINBOW RIBBONS had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages of the race.
RACE 6: CARLTON & UNITED H'CAP - 1200M.
N. Evans was notified late as the rider of MAGICO. Stewards questioned A. Merritt concerning him accepting the engagement on MAGICO when he was already engaged for PADDY DAPPER. After hearing an explanation, A. Merritt was reprimanded and instructed to taken the necessary measures to prevent a recurrence.
Correct weight was delayed to enable J. Byrne to view the film of the start as he was of the belief he was denied a fair start on RULENZA ROAD. After hearing evidence from J. Byrne, K. Wood, trainer of RULENZA ROAD and starter Mr P. Donnelly, stewards ruled RULENZA ROAD was denied a fair start in accordance with Rule 134A. Pursuant to the provisions of the Racing and Betting Act, all monies invested on RULENZA ROAD were ordered to be refunded in full, and deductions made in accordance with the Racing and Betting Act - i.e. 20 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets, 16 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets.
MAGICO was slow to begin.
PADDY DAPPER jumped away awkwardly and after travelling a short distance brushed LET FLY.
Near the 1000m., BENTOTA made contact with the running rail. RACE CAREER, which was trailing, became unbalanced and lost ground when BENTOTA struck the rail.
Rounding the first turn, FLYING TAAN had to be steadied after improving between YOUTHFUL and BENTOTA where there was not fully sufficient room.
Near the 300m., SWOOPING EAGLE shifted in and made contact with YOUTHFUL. M. Pelling, rider of SWOOPING EAGLE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
After passing the 200m., FLYING TAAN struck the heels of WESTERLY and fell. When FLYING TAAN fell, YOUTHFUL had to be checked to avoid the fallen horse. An inquiry was opened into the incident and after taking evidence from N. Tomizawa (LET FLY), M. Pelling (SWOOPING EAGLE), M. Cahill (WESTERLY) and S. Seamer (YOUTHFUL), the inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed to enable K. Yoshida, rider of FLYING TAAN, who was transported to the Royal Brisbane Hospital, to be available to give evidence. A veterinary examination of FLYING TAAN following the event revealed that gelding sustained a laceration to the inside of its mouth.
RACE 7: AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS' DOOMBEN DASH
On return to scale, a protest was lodged by A. Morrison, rider of the 2nd placegetter, BAGPIPES, against FAVOURITE PRINCESS being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the film, stewards dismissed the protest and the Judge's placings were confirmed.
MACHTIG MIHI PANIS, which jumped awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with BAGPIPES.
After travelling a short distance, BAGPIPES then shifted in, hampering MACHTIG MIHI PANIS.
CATAINER and BATON made contact just after the start. BATON then shifted in and made contact with GOLDEN PEAK.
Making the first turn, TOHESERA had to be steadied off the heels of FAVOURITE PRINCESS, which shifted in.
In the early stages of the straight, BATON was held up for clear running.
A swab sample was taken from the 2nd placegetter, BAGPIPES.
RACE 8: TREASURY CASINO H'CAP - 1350M.
Rounding the home turn, TAKE STRIKE was inconvenienced as a result of AVAN RANCH tiring.
L. Deguara, rider of CANALETTO, was severely reprimanded for permitting her mount to shift in near the 1000m., causing MERINGO MULL to be taken in and contacting the hind quarters of HUGE.
ALL WINNERS AND BAGPIPES WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
