BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT.21.7.01

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr S. Railton (Chairman); Mr J. Hackett; Mr P. Gillard; Mr R. Sanders; Mr G. Hargraves; Mr T. Harper (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - FAST RAIL - 5M. ALL TRACK


RACE 1: SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1350M.

After jumping away awkwardly, REVOLTING veered out, inconveniencing SEAHAWK DANCER.

Soon after the start, ZULU WARRIOR was hampered when cramped for room by BACK POCKET, which shifted in slightly.

Approaching the 900m., PRINCESS CLANG had to be checked off the heels of REVOLTING as that horse assumed the lead. As a consequence of being checked, PRINCESS CLANG shifted out, bumping BACK POCKET. J. Taylor, rider of REVOLTING, was cautioned for easing the pace prematurely.

S. Seamer, rider of PRINCESS CLANG, was spoken to concerning the manner in which he attempted to force a run on that filly at the entrance to the straight. At this stage PRINCESS CLANG shifted out and bumped the hind quarters of BACK POCKET, resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced. PRINCESS CLANG and BACK POCKET continued to make contact for some distance thereafter.

Passing the 200m., DECANNY shifted in under pressure, inconveniencing BACK POCKET. M. Pelling, rider of DECANNY, was urged to make more endeavor to keep his mounts on a true course.

A veterinary examination of BACK POCKET following the event failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 2: DREAMWORLD H'CAP - 1200M.

After leaving the 300m., EMPHASIS and SOUP LESSE came into contact as EMPHASIS attempted to shift out from behind CRYPTIC RED to obtain clear running.

TRANSPARENT LOVER jumped the shadow of the winning post.


RACE 3: POWERHOUSE BOUTIQUE HOTEL HAMILTON H'CAP - 1615M.

Leaving the 1400m., PSYCHIC KELLINA had to be steadied when cramped for room by SEAWELL, which shifted in whilst racing fiercely.

S. Katsidis, rider of PSYCHIC KELLINA, and M. Dracos, rider of NEW SHOES, accidentally dropped their whips after passing the 600m. and near the 300m. respectively.


RACE 4: P.J. OBRIEN'S IRISH PUBS AUSTRALIA H'CAP - 1350M.

JACK LIVES HERE hung out in the middle stages.

EXCALIBUR had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.

M. Dorrington, rider of the last placed FOREST SPRITE, was reprimanded for using an unnecessary amount of whip on a horse out of contention.

A veterinary examination of JACK LIVES HERE following the event failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 5: INTERFORMS PRINTING GROUP H'CAP - 2020M.

IN THE GIDGEE jumped outwards at the start, inconveniencing DOODLE DANDY.

Approaching the 600m., DOODLE DANDY received contact from MIDNIGHT DEAL, which shifted out around the heels of ACTRESS GRACE to improve.


RACE 6: THE COURIER-MAIL SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1350M.

ARTIQUE jumped inwards at the start, taking VLADIVOSTOK in on to THE ALMIGHTY ONE, which had to be checked.

Approaching the 200m., WISHART shifted out and made contact with MIDNIGHT WARRIOR. WISHART was them impeded for a short distance behind MADISON.

Nearing the 100m., MIDNIGHT WARRIOR shifted out abruptly around the heels of SON OF KEL, resulting in ROSE OR GINA being hampered.

J. Stanley reported that he felt THE ALMIGHTY ONE was favouring its off foreleg on return to scale. A veterinary examination of THE ALMIGHTY ONE subsequently failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 7: TRIPLE M/BIG BROTHER H'CAP - 1615M.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by S. Katsidis, rider of the 2nd placegetter, DYNAMIC REASON, against FIGURANTE being declared the winner, alleging interference in the straight. S. Katsidis's particular grounds were that his mare was struck across the head on several occasions by the whip of M. Cahill, rider of FIGURANTE. Whilst it was established that DYNAMIC REASON was struck by M. Cahill's whip on 4 occasions between the 300m. and 250m., stewards dismissed the objection having regard to the fact that M. Cahill pulled his whip prior to the incident and had struck his mount behind the saddle on 3 occasions. It was further established that FIGURANTE maintained a predominantly true course in the early stages of the straight, and that DYNAMIC REASON had shifted in slightly and brushed the hind quarters of FIGURANTE.

SHARNE TARTAN blundered badly at the start and lost ground.

MISKARIMA began awkwardly.

MISS CRABOPPLE and MERINGA MULL came into contact on a number of occasions over the final 200m. as MISS CRABOPPLE shifted out to find clear running.

When questioned, G. Colless stated that, as she had done at her most recent starts, SUNSET was slow to begin. He indicated that the mare was struggling as far out as the 700m. and then compounded in the straight when tested. G. Colless concluded by saying that the mare did not appear to be able to extend over the concluding stages and felt that the she was hampered by some underlying problem. A veterinary examination of SUNSET after the event failed to reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken from SUNSET.



RACE 8: TRANSCONTINENTAL HOTEL H'CAP - 1110M.

Leaving the 800m., FLOWER GEM had to be steadied when cramped for room by NO INTENTION. Approaching the 600m., FLOWER GEM then shifted out around the heels of NO INTENTION, inconveniencing DASH OF BAY.

Jockey G. Colless voiced concern regarding the action of SIR SINGLE, which tailed off throughout. A veterinary examination of SIR SINGLE after the event revealed the gelding to be sore in the off fore fetlock. Trainer G. Stewart will be interviewed regarding SIR SINGLE'S future.



ALL WINNERS AND SUNSET WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
