BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT.8.12.01

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr S. Railton (Chairman), Mr A. Reardon, Mr C. Clifford, Mr D. Aurisch, Mr G. Hargraves, Mr W. Geggie

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - SLOW/UPGRADED TO DEAD AT 11.10 AM

RAIL - TRUE POSITION

RACE 1: YELLOWGLEN H'CAP - 1350M.

ROYAL OPERA jumped awkwardly, losing ground.

After being briefly tightened for room by REGENT STREET at the 1200m., ROYAL OPERA got its head up and overraced for some distance.

Near the 1000m., SURR STYLE shifted out from behind the heels of ALL POINTS NORTH, making contact with REGENT STREET.

RACE 2: FISH RESTAURANT AT CITY ROWERS DOOMBEN HORSESHOE SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1110M.

Approaching the 700m., FALILA HEKATERINA had to be checked when tightened for room by NEWBOLD QUEST, which shifted in when racing greenly.

A veterinary examination of FALILA HEKATERINA, which performed poorly, revealed the filly to have freshened up an old laceration behind the off pastern.

RACE 3: CROWN LAGER H'CAP - 1200M.

LAURINEL IMPULSE began awkwardly and shifted in, inconveniencing AWESOME WEATHER.

Leaving the 600m., EMPHASIS had to be checked off the heels of THIS MANSHOOD.

When being steadied off the heels of VERSETIME at the 450m., CENTONA shifted out, making contact with GULLCATCHER, which as a consequence had to be checked off BEAU BELLO. THIS MANSHOOD, which was following, was also inconvenienced.

After being held up momentarily, THIS MANSHOOD shifted out around the heels of CENTONA at the 100m. and as a result made contact with GULLCATCHER.

RACE 4: CLUB ROWERS H'CAP - 2020M.

S. Katsidis was examined by the club's doctor after riding in race 3 and was stood down from his remaining engagements. Stewards approved the following riding replacements: Race 4. SILVER PAGE - R. Goltz; Race 5. RISING ROYAL - R. Goltz; Race 6. TALBINGO LAD - G. Duffy; Race 7. SCHUMANN - S. Shield; Race 8. GEE EYE JANE - M. Tarrant.

MAMANUCA jumped away awkwardly and made contact with MIDNIGHT WARRIOR.

Approaching the home turn, MIDNIGHT WARRIOR had to be checked when attempting to improve between COMET DANCER and SAILOR'S LARK where there was insufficient room.

A short distance later, MIDNIGHT WARRIOR had to be steadied off the heels of COMET DANCER, which was taken out by VALIANT BID.

RACE 5: CAMPAK H'CAP - 1615M.

No racing incidents.

RACE 6: TRIPLE M H'CAP - 1350M.

WALL'S GIFT was a late scratching at 11.50 a.m. on veterinary advice.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by A. Cowie, rider of the 2nd placegetter EVIL SNIP, against VAIN HALO being declared the winner, alleging interference approaching the home turn. Whilst it was established that VAIN HALO had shifted out on the home turn and brushed EVIL SNIP, stewards did not believe that the amount of interference incurred by EVIL SNIP warranted a reversal of placings. Accordingly the protest was dismissed.

VISLANDA jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

CAMPAIGNOR was slow to begin.

On jumping away, EVIL SNIP shifted in and made contact with PEARL STAR.

RACE 7: CARLTON DRAUGHT SUMMER STAKES - 1200M.

On jumping away, PRINCE HAKEEM and AMAIZCAY were both checked when tightened for room between AGGRAVATION and CITICHY, both of which shifted ground.

SCHUMANN and SENSACHE bumped heavily at the 900m..

KING LOTTO and MACHTIG MIHI PANIS were obliged to race wide in the middle stages.

From the top of the straight until the 150., ZARIZ was held up for clear running between SENSACHE and KING LOTTO.

Near the 200m., ZARIZ was accidentally struck across the head by the whip of D. Spriggs, rider of SENSACHE.

When AMAIZCAY switched around the heels of FEDERAL AGENT to obtain clear running at the 100m., TREASURE THE KWILA was taken out on to SEA BREEZE, which in turn shifted out, hampering the tiring CLAY SHAKER. B. Swanton, rider of AMAIZCAY, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.

When attempting to take a narrow run between GOLDEN EYE and FEDERAL AGENT at the 75m., PRINCE HAKEEM brushed the hind quarters of FEDERAL AGENT, which resulted in that horse shifting in slightly, crowding PRINCE HAKEEM over the final 50m..

WISHART was badly held up over the final 75m..

A veterinary examination of CLAY SHAKER, which performed disappointingly, failed to reveal any abnormality. G. Birney stated that CLAY SHAKER was a beaten horse at the home turn and in his view the gelding raced like a tired horse. Trainer G. Reid indicated that whilst CLAY SHAKER had continued to do well in the stable prior to today's event, the gelding may have been feeling the effects of a couple of hard runs. Mr Reid indicated that CLAY SHAKER would be sent for an immediate spell. A swab sample was taken from CLAY SHAKER.

RACE 8: CITY ROWERS MODE SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.

FLYING ANA was slow to begin.

A veterinary examination of GROOVY MISS, which compounded badly in the straight, revealed the filly to be sore in the off knee.

ALL WINNERS AND CLAY SHAKER WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
