WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD/FAST AFTER R.2

RAIL - OUT 2.5M ALL TRACK

RACE 1: MEMBERS CHRISTMAS H'CAP - 1615M.

BRITANNICUS and KIWI WARRIOR were slow to begin.

AWESOME WEATHER blundered on jumping away.

On the first turn, AWESOME WEATHER shifted out and brushed SAMMY.

When questioned, apprentice L. Meech stated that ERIC commenced to race fiercely on the first turn and then continued to overrace for some distance despite her efforts to settle the horse.

RACE 2: CHRISTMAS WISH H'CAP - 1010M.

KOOCHIE and DARK TOPAZE were slow to begin.

CADGEE raced greenly throughout the event.

S. Seamer, rider of the 3rd placegetter, DARK TOPAZE, accidentally dropped his whip approaching the 150m..

Following this event, the track rating was upgraded to fast.

RACE 3: GIANNI RESTAURANT H'CAP - 1350M.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by M. Dracos, rider of the 4th placegetter, ALTISSIMO ROSE, against MODEL MATERIAL being declared 3rd, alleging interference near the 1000m.. Whilst it was established that ALTISSIMO ROSE did sustain tightening near the 1100m., stewards dismissed the objection as they believed that there were contributing factors to the tightening other than the involvement of MODEL MATERIAL. Whilst it was further established that ALTISSIMO ROSE lost ground approaching the 800m. turn, it was deemed that this occurred due to ALTISSIMO ROSE'S tendency to overrace at this stage.

TELEBAN was slow to begin.

K. Pope, rider of OPAL ICE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 1100m. when not clear of MODEL MATERIAL, which resulted in MODEL MATERIAL being taken in on to ALTISSIMO ROSE, which as a consequence caused severe crowding to that mare, TRAIL OF GOLD and MOLLY SINGER. As a consequence of the crowding, TRAIL OF GOLD had to be checked by its rider. K. Pope was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 26 December and to expire at midnight, 3 January 2002. After receiving tightening, TRAIL OF GOLD, which had already commenced to overrace, raced ungenerously for some distance and shifted out abruptly approaching the 900m. off the heels of ALTISSIMO ROSE.

When TRAIL OF GOLD shifted back in to resume its position at the 800m., SHANNON LEE, which had gained ground to the inside of TRAIL OF GOLD and FEELERS, were obliged to race in restricted room for some distance. J. Byrne, rider of TRAIL OF GOLD, was cautioned in relation to this incident.

At the request of the stewards, the club's veterinary surgeon inspected TRAIL OF GOLD, however reported that he could detect no abnormalities with the filly. A swab sample was taken from TRAIL OF GOLD.

RACE 4: MERCEDES BENZ H'CAP - 2100M.

Stewards permitted the late withdrawal of APOLLO THEATRE at 8.25 a.m.. Trainer P. Facoory was fined $100 for failing to withdraw the horse by the prescribed time.

A veterinary examination of PROMISSORY NOTE, which performed disappointingly, revealed the mare to be suffering muscle tie up in the hind quarters.

RACE 5: EXCEL EVENTS H'CAP - 1350M.

Trainer J. Roberts was fined $100 for failing to present the Document of Description for SILVER SPOONS.

No racing incidents.

A swab sample was taken from 5th placegetter, SILVER SPOONS.

RACE 6: CHIEF DE BEERS ROOM SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1110M.

SYDANEE made the 800m turn awkwardly and shifted out, inconveniencing DAMIGOS. SYDANEE continued to race ungenerously and hung out on the home turn.

DAMIGOS and ROAD TO HEAVEN were both obliged to race very wide during the event.

A veterinary examination of PEDRO AND LES, which compounded badly from the 600m., revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. As a consequence, PEDRO AND LES will incur the mandatory 3 month ban from racing.

RACE 7: DOOMBEN STAKES - 1350M.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by J. Byrne, rider of the 5th placegetter FEDERAL AGENT, against PRINCE HAKEEM being declared 4th, alleging interference over the final 100m.. Whilst it was established that PRINCE HAKEEM had shifted in and hampered FEDERAL AGENT, stewards were of the view that this incident had occurred in too close a proximity to the winning post to have had any bearing on the finishing positions of the relevant horses and therefore the protest was dismissed. Whilst no action was taken, M. Pelling, rider of PRINCE HAKEEM, was urged to make more effort to keep his mounts on a straight course.

AMAIZCAY was slow to begin.

For some distance approaching the 200m., SEA BREEZE was impeded for a run between OMBRA DELLA SERA and FEDERAL AGENT.

An inquiry will be held into an incident on the first turn where OMBRE DELLA SERA lost ground.

RACE 8: MERRY CHRISTMAS H'CAP - 1200M.

SCHUMANN was a late scratching at 4.50 p.m. acting on the advice of the club's veterinary surgeon, who reported that the horse was showing signs of lameness. On the announcement of correct weight, all monies invested on SCHUMANN were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 14 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 13 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.

M. Rice, rider of BAGPIPES, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed the gelding to shift in at the 1000m. when not clear of EMINENT CHEVAL, resulting in that horse being taken in across SHALARKO, which had to be checked and in turn causing a tightening to FRISKY STAR. M. Rice from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 27 December, and to expire at midnight, 6 January 2002.

Rounding the home turn, PAST BLAST raced in restricted room inside SWIRLER.

Upon straightening, AKAABER'S PROMISE had to be checked and was obliged to shift in abruptly to avoid the heels of RESIST, which lost ground sharply after dipping. Following the event, the club's veterinary surgeon reported that RESIST had ruptured its off fore tendon.
