WEATHER – FINE TRACK – GOOD RAIL – IN TRUE POSITION
RACE 1: COMPUTER ALLIANCE H'CAP – 1615M
At the entrance to the straight MATTY'S GIRL was obliged to shift out abruptly to avoid the heels of AKAABER'S PROMISE which commenced to lose ground quickly.
A veterinary examination of AKAABER'S PROMISE, which eventually tailed off, revealed the gelding to be suffering from a heart arrhythmia. As AKAABER'S PROMISE had exhibited similar symptoms following a failure at the Doomben meeting on 6 October 2001, stewards will interview connections regarding AKAABER'S PROMISE's racing future. A swab sample was taken from AKAABER'S PROMISE.
RACE 2: BYRNE FORD H'CAP – 2100M
NO INCIDENTS
RACE 3: P.J. O'BRIEN'S SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1200M
HAWATINSK jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
CAPRILL shifted in at the start, taking BLAZING DANCER in on to MISHAEL.
Approaching the first turn SWAK had to be steadied when cramped for room by CAPRILL.
At the 850m BLAZING DANCER also had to be steadied by its rider after improving up inside the heels of NUZZLE where there was insufficient room.
ROAR TALENT and BLAZING DANCER were obliged to race wide during the event.
At the 600m MIGHTY PHUN had to be restrained to avoid the heels of IN THE JUNGLE which shifted in when racing greenly.
After being held up in the early stages of the straight SWAK, when shifting out to obtain clear running near the 200m, caused some inconvenience to FINAL DEMAND.
A veterinary examination of HAWATINSK, which performed disappointingly, failed to reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken from HAWATINSK.
RACE 4: ALL SPORTS LIFESTYLE CLUBS SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1350M
KILLACHI jumped in at the start making heavy contact with DEUXIEME and in turn caused tightening to TELINDA LAD.
On jumping away TELL SOMEONE was tightened for room between TOPPA and COUNTER AGENT.
At the 250m CANTANTES became unbalanced when placed in restricted room between DEUXIEME and SHANNON LEE, both of which shifted ground slightly.
RACE 5: CITY SUBARU H'CAP – 1350M
TRULY BRAVE was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon prior to the event and passed fit to race.
TRULY BRAVE jumped away awkwardly and made contact with OPAL RAINBOW.
MR. LEPRECHAUN was slow to begin.
MAGICO got its head up and tended to overrace approaching the 900m.
At the 900m PRAYDO had to be steadied off the heels of CHAR AZTEK which shifted in towards the fence.
At the 600m FUME had to be checked after attempting to improve inside KING SHALFORD where there was doubtful room. When FUME lost ground, LUNGU and MR. LEPRECHAUN, which were following, also had to be checked. At the same stage, BLAZING KALA commenced to overrace and had to be checked off the heels of MAGICO which in turn caused some inconvenience to OPAL RAINBOW which was following.
Rounding the home turn KING SHALFORD and GOLD AND FANCY came into contact as a consequence of KING SHALFORD attempting to shift out from behind PRECIFIC.
D. Tanti, the rider of OPAL RAINBOW, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that leaving the 300m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of MAGICO, resulting in MAGICO being checked and taken in on to LUNGU which was tightened. D. Tanti was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence at midnight on Tuesday, 12 March, and expire at midnight on Friday, 22 March 2002.
CHAR AZTEK was unable to obtain clear running from the 400m until after leaving the 200m.
Over the concluding stages CHAR AZTEK had to be checked off the heels of KING SHALFORD when again held up for clear running.
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that KING SHALFORD was galloped on behind the off hind fetlock.
RACE 6: CHARIOT INTERNET COMPANY H'CAP – 1615M
Trainer M. Brosnan was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for HANCOCK by the prescribed time.
After being loaded, GRIND became fractious in the barriers. This necessitated the gelding being removed from the barriers and inspected by the Club's veterinary surgeon before being declared fit to start.
GROWING CONCERN jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
At the 100m H. Akiyama, the rider of HANCOCK, accidentally dropped his whip.
When questioned G. Duffy stated that although instructed to ride IN SINGAPORE on the pace, the gelding did not begin well and then was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages which resulted in IN SINGAPORE settling further back in the field than was anticipated.
RACE 7: FM104 TRIPLE M/GUINNESS H'CAP – 1350M
For the majority of the straight BRAVISA was impeded for a run inside PARIS HEARTBEAT.
When placed under pressure in the straight WISHART hung in.
Inside the 200m EXPERTISE had to be checked when tightened for room between MAY ROYAL, which shifted out slightly after being disappointed for a run to the inside of PARIS HEARTBEAT, and BANFF CONNECTION which, after being taken in by BRIGHTER SCENE, was inclined to shift in and away from that horse. In all of the circumstances no action was taken, however M. Dracos (MAY ROYAL) and B. Stewart (BRIGHTER SCENE) were urged to exercise more care.
On the finishing line BRAVISA shifted out, resulting in a general tightening in which BANFF CONNECTION had to be restrained.
RACE 8: EXCIMER LASER VISION H'CAP – 1200M
Passing the 1000m CHEMICAL BROTHER had to be steadied to avoid the heels of RAMSTADIUS which shifted in when not quite clear. Z. Purton, the rider of RAMSTADIUS, was reprimanded and reminded of his responsibility to provide at least two lengths clearance when shifting ground.
GOLD DREDGE and CHEMICAL BROTHER were forced to race wide throughout the event.
S. Katsidis, the rider of MELLIERI, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out on the home turn resulting in THUNDERMANN being hampered and in turn taken out on to GOLD DREDGE which in turn made contact with CHEMICAL BROTHER.
MR. VELOCHEE had some difficulty obtaining clear running between the 250m and the 150m.
K. Pope, the rider of 4th placegetter SCORSESE, was fined $100 for weighing in in excess of ½ kilogram overweight on that gelding.
ALL WINNERS, AKAABER'S PROMISE AND HAWATINSK WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
