WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 3.5M ALL TRACK
RACE 1: BIN 111 VERDELHO H'CAP - 1615M.
ROMANZA was slow to begin.
CASUAL REWARD was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
A swab sample was taken from 3rd placegetter, HIGHLY DANGEROUS.
Apprentice M. McDonald, rider of the second placegetter, MORINGA'S MONARCH, was fined $100 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram overweight.
RACE 2: BIN 777 SEMILLON H'CAP - 1010M.
After jumping away awkwardly, YOUNG DANIEL hung out on the first turn.
A veterinary examination of KAVANAGH, which compounded badly in the straight, revealed that colt to be shin sore in the off fore leg.
RACE 3: BIN 333 PINOT H'CAP - 1200M.
JOHN SYN was unable to obtain clear running until after passing the 100m..
Jockey B. Stewart, rider of the second placegetter LADY WITH THE LAMP, was fined $100 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram overweight.
RACE 4: BIN 999 MERLOT H'CAP - 1350M.
M. Williamson, rider of VOWORANA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1100m. he allowed his mount to shift in at a stage when not clear of HIMALAYA FALCON, resulting in that horse being taken in on to BLACKLOCK, which in turn tightened the running of MISS CEANNE, , which struck the running rail and had to be checked. M. Williamson was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 1 May, and to expire at midnight, 11 May 2002. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account M. Williamson's good race riding record.
On the home turn, HIMALAYA FALCON became unbalanced after being bumped on the hind quarters by GENE'S INTEREST, which at that stage shifted out from behind VOWORANA to obtain clear running.
After passing the 300m., GENE'S INTEREST had to be checked when disappointed for a run between HIMALAYA FALCON and VOWORANA, which shifted out when struck with the whip. Stewards accepted that M. Williamson, rider of VOWORANA, had immediately stopped riding with the whip and attempted to straighten his mount.
A swab sample was taken from JUST GUS.
RACE 5: BIN 555 SHIRAZ SCOMELD SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200 M.
After being loaded, KISMA became very fractious in the barriers, which necessitated the filly being examined by the club's veterinary surgeon. Subsequently, KISMA was declared a late scratching at 2.57 p.m. acting on advice from the club's veterinary surgeon, who indicated that the filly had sustained lacerations to the head area. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on KISMA were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
WHISKEY ON ICE was examined at the barriers by the club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and found to have blood in its mouth as a result of a dislodged toothcap. WHISKEY ON ICE was passed fit to start.
AFRICAN QUEEN was a little slow to begin.
WHISKEY ON ICE was obliged to race wide in the middle stages.
Following the race, trainer G. Newham reported that SADDLER'S SILK had been galloped on behind.
RACE 6: BIN 222 CHARDONNAY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1615M.
An inquiry has been adjourned into the late withdrawal of THERMOPYLAE at 7.55 a.m..
MISS THUNDERCAT, which pulled up lame at its most recent start, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
After being loaded, POLLYANNA ANNA became fractious in the barriers and reared up. POLLYANNA ANNA was subsequently examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
On jumping away, SHA ALMA and POLLYANNA ANNA were tightened for room between D'ARGENT FILLE, which jumped outwards, and MAGIQUE SKY, which shifted in.
After making contact with POLLYANNA ANNA at the start, D'ARGENT FILLE continued to lay out for some distance, further hampering POLLYANNA ANNA.
RACE 7: WYNDHAM ESTATE CUP - 1200M.
MACHTIG MIHI PANIS jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the outside gate and as a consequence unbalanced its rider, J. Taylor. This resulted in MACHTIG MIHI PANIS getting its head up soon after the start.
Passing the 800m., PERNOD was momentarily tightened for room inside FEDERAL AGENT. MAKE MINE MAGIC, which was following, had to be steadied off the heels of PERNOD.
When MAKE MINE MAGIC shifted out at the 250m., FEDERAL AGENT was taken out on to the heels of TWIN FORTUNE, resulting in FEDERAL AGENT having to be steadied. MAKE MINE MAGIC continued to shift out, causing TWIN FORTUNE to be hampered near the 200m.. G. Colless, rider of MAKE MINE MAGIC, was cautioned and urged to exercise more care.
TWIN FORTUNE and SHOW A HEART were both forced wide during the event.
RACE 8: BIN 444 CABERNET H'CAP - 1200M.
CHINA AMBER jumped inwards at the start, hampering AMBER BOY.
EMINENT CHEVAL was a little slow to begin.
On the first turn, THOMAS JOHN had to be checked when tightened for room inside OUT BREAK. Whilst stewards accepted that the tightening to THOMAS JOHN had been exacerbated by MIGHT AND GOLD shifting out to that horse's inside, P. Moodie, rider of OUT BREAK, was severely reprimanded for shifting in slightly when not clear of THOMAS JOHN.
When cramped for room inside CHINA AMBER on the first turn, GUNS ABLAZE brushed the running rail and was reluctant to hold its position inside that runner and as a consequence lost ground. MADISON, which was following, shifted out to avoid GUNS ABLAZE, hampering PELT.
Passing the 600m., PELT became awkward at the heels of LORD KARIOI and shifted out, inconveniencing ZUKA.
EMINENT CHEVAL, OUT BREAK and THOMAS JOHN were forced to race wide in the middle stages.
When attempting a run between ZUKA and PELT near the 300m. where there was doubtful room, DEVER'S GOLD had to be checked as a consequence of PELT shifting out slighlty.
Rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight, both MADISON and MIGHT AND GOLD were held up for clear running.
M. Rodd, rider of MIGHT AND GOLD, was cautioned for allowing his mount to shift out at the 250m., resulting in PELT being taken out on to ZUKA, which in turn shifted out, causing some inconvenience to OLIVIER.
ALL WINNERS, JUST GUS AND HIGHLY DANGEROUS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
