RACE 1: TRANSCONTINENTAL HOTEL H'CAP – 1200M
As the start was effected MADISON blundered badly and lost ground.
P. Moodie, the rider of OUT BREAK was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that approaching the first turn he permitted OUT BREAK to shift in at a stage when not clear of MR. KABARLA, resulting in MR. KABARLA being tightened on to COINCIDENCE. As a consequence, COINCIDENCE was hampered and lost some ground which in turn resulted in MADISON, which was following, having to be restrained by its rider. THREATNER in turn had to be restrained off the heels of MADISON which resulted in that gelding getting its head up and shifting out tightening EMINENT CHEVAL on the hind quarters of EVIL SNIP. As a consequence, EMINENT CHEVAL and THREATNER lost ground. P. Moodie was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight on Monday, 20 May, with the suspension to expire at midnight on Sunday, 2 June.
HOO HA was forced to race wide during the event.
EMINENT CHEVAL had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 200m.
Passing the 100m MADISON was held up for a run behind GREAT CRUSADER.
Passing the 100m COINCIDENCE was accidentally struck across the nose by the whip of M. McDonald, the rider of GREAT CRUSADER, as COINCIDENCE took a narrow run between that horse and OUT BREAK.
After passing the winning post OUT BREAK was cramped for room between COINCIDENCE and CINNAMON COVE, both of which shifted ground slightly. This caused OUT BREAK to clip the heels of COINCIDENCE, resulting in OUT BREAK blundering and dislodging its rider P. Moodie. Stewards deemed the incident to be accidental.

JUST GUS blundered as the start was effected and lost ground.

Close to the finishing line G. Schofield, the rider of the 4th placegetter GRANLASSUE, was forced to stop riding his mount due to WEST WARD shifting in under pressure.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of CITICHY, trainer N. Flouskos stated that prior to her first-up performance at the Gold Coast last Saturday CITICHY had missed a grass trial and some fast work due to the amount of rain which had been received at Corbould Park in the preceding weeks. He added, however, that he still supported CITICHY, believing that the mare had done sufficient work and also on the basis that she historically had raced well when fresh. Mr Flouskos was unable to provide any further explanation for CITICHY's first-up performance which he classified as slightly disappointing.

Approaching the 1600m TRAIL OF GOLD had to be steadied off the heels of NIGHT CHASER which at that stage raced awkwardly at the heels of PALIDAMAH. NIGHT CHASER continued to race ungenerously for some distance after this incident.
G. Colless, the rider of TRAIL OF GOLD, was cautioned for the manner in which he shifted ground at the entrance to the straight resulting in NIGHT CHASER being hampered when taken out towards the heels of TELL SOMEONE.
When placed under pressure at the 150m, NIGHT CHASER shifted in abruptly, inconveniencing GUSSY GODIVA. V. Caddy, the rider of NIGHT CHASER, was also cautioned and urged to exercise more care.
A veterinary examination of DEVILINA, which compounded badly in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken from DEVILINA. When questioned B. York stated that DEVILINA started to feel the pressure as far out as the 600m and the only explanation he could offer was that the filly may have gone too hard in the early stages of the event.
RACE 6: HAMILTON HOTEL DOOMBEN CLASSIC SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES – 1615M
OUR SMALL TOWN BOY lost its near hind plate in transit to the course. As that gelding was unable to have the near hind plate refitted, stewards permitted the horse to race unplated on both hind feet. OUR SMALL TOWN BOY was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
VEGA SICILIA and DEUXIEME were slow to begin.

Soon afterwards, when the pace slackened, MACHTIG MIHI PANIS, PHOENIX PARK and OSCA WARRIOR all tended to overrace.
Approaching the 300m PLAY STATION had to be steadied when cramped for room between KENCONCARNE, which commenced to shift out to improve, and FRITZ, which shifted in.
