BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT.25.5.02

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr S. Railton (Chairman), Mr A. Reardon, Mr J. Hackett, Mr C. McLune Mr C. Waller (Cadet), Ms S. Gillespie (Cadet).

WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - FAST/GOOD AT 10.20 A.M.

RAIL - 6M. ALL TRACK

GENERAL: Due to early morning showers, the track rating was amended from fast to good at 10.20 a.m..

RACE 1: TOOHEYS EXTRA DRY H'CAP - 1350M.

As C. Munce's arrival on course was delayed, stewards permitted apprentice jockey V. Caddy to take the mount on DANE WITCH. This replacement was permitted as no other senior rider was available.

DAMIGOS was slow to begin.

HARVEYNICKS jumped awkwardly.

A veterinary examination of CRACKERJACK'S HOPE, which finished a distant last, failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 2: HAHN PREMIUM LIGHT H'CAP - 2100M.

DUTCH HARRY and HIGHLY DANGEROUS jumped away awkwardly.

MUSTAAGEL and SPORTS FREAK both tended to overrace in the early and middle stages.

Approaching the home turn, LA TRIO was momentarily held up for clear running.

RACE 3: XXXX BITTER MIGHT AND POWER H'CAP - 1010M.

Stewards permitted the late scratching of LA SERANADE at 7.40 a.m..

WISELINK and BIGGE ILSE were slow to begin.

Leaving the 500m., BIGGE ISLE had to be restrained off the heels of OUCH, which in turn lost ground after being cramped for room between NAN TIEN and ROYLE ENTOURAGE, which shifted out slightly.

RACE 4: MAROON TO THE MAXXX D

OUR EXCESS jumped awkwardly.

Soon after the start, ORIGIN HERO and KISS AN ANGEL were hampered when cramped for room between LOVELY JUBLY and MESSIAEN, which shifted out.

Over the concluding stages, LOVELY JUBLY shifted out under pressure.

RACE 5: HAHN PREMIUM ROUGH HABIT PLATE SUPER QRIS ADD

VEGA SICILIA and DEUXIEME were slow to begin.

ARLINGTON ROAD overraced in the early stages and refused to settle.

Approaching the home turn I ROCK MY WORLD shifted out, forcing MISS BUSSELL wider on the track.

The club's veterinary surgeon reported that AGGRO suffered a large bruise to the near forearm, and that NATIVE WELLS was found to be lame in the off foreleg.

RACE 6: CASTELMAINE SOVEREIGN BTC SPRINT - 1350M.

OUR BEEKAY was slow to begin.

B. Pengelly, rider of CARAEL BOY, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at the 1000m., resulting in THE KILDARE KID, MALAGRA MISS and OUR BEEKAY all being placed in restricted room. It was established that MALAGRA MISS overreacted to the tightening and hung in, tightening OUR BEEKAY on to the running rail, resulting in that horse losing ground.

On the first turn, MISTER OMEGA became awkward and shifted out momentarily. As MISTER OMEGA shifted back in to resume its position, CARAEL BOY, which was pulling hard, had to shift in off the heels of MISTER OMEGA, resulting in THE KILDARE KID once again being tightening on to MALAGRA MISS. OUR BEEKAY in turn had to be steadied off MALAGRA MISS.

Approaching the 200m., MABUZ had to be checked when disappointed for a run to the inside of MALAGRA MISS. Whilst acknowledging that his mount had proved somewhat difficult to ride during the event, V. Caddy, rider of MALAGRA MISS, was nonetheless reprimanded for failing to make sufficient effort to keep his mounts on a true course.

G. Schofield, rider of FEDERAL AGENT, accidentally dropped his whip near the 200m..

Passing the 100m., OUR BEEKAY was obliged to alter course to the outside of THE KILDARE KID when that horse shifted in under pressure.

POLYGRAM was forced to race wide during the event.

RACE 7: XXXX DOOMBEN CUP - 2200M.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by S. Katsidis, rider of the second placegetter, GALROOF, against MR. BUREAUCRAT being declared the winner alleging interference in the straight. Whilst it was established that GALROOF ultimately was obliged to alter course around the heels of MR. BUREAUCRAT near the 100m., and whilst it was also found that MR BUREAUCRAT did shift in under pressure, the objection was dismissed as stewards deemed that GALROOF had not obtained full purchase on a run between FREEMASON and MR. BUREAUCRAT.

Making the turn near the 1200m., FREEMASON shifted out, forcing MR. BUREAUCRAT wider on the track.

On the 800m. turn, VIVA LA VIE tended to overrace when placed in restricted room by FREEMASON.

At the entrance to the straight, BLANCHARD was hampered by VIVA LA VIE, which was taken out by HILL OF GRACE, which in turn was influenced by CASSIMIR, which shifted out to improve.

GALROOF returned to scale with blood in both nostrils. At a subsequent inquiry, trainer M. Moroney advised that GALROOF had become fractious in the tie up stalls and had bumped its head. The club's veterinary surgeon gave evidence that GALROOF sustained abrasions and bruising to the forehead, which would confirm that the filly had sustained a trauma to the head prior to the race. Acting on this report, stewards exercised their discretion under the powers of AR 53A in determining that GALROOF did not suffer a bleeding attack. At the conclusion of the inquiry, trainer M. Moroney pleaded guilty to being in breach of AR 140(a), in that he failed to report a condition which may have effected the performance of GALROOF. Mr Moroney was fined the sum of $500.

A veterinary examination of KAAPSTAD WAY following the event revealed the gelding to be suffering from heart arhythmia. Trainer C. Wood was advised that prior to its next race start that KAAPSTAD WAY would be required to trial to the satisfaction of the stewards as well as having a satisfactory ECG test performed.

RACE 8: XXXX GOOD AS GOLD H'CAP - 1615M.

At the 1100m., I REALISE was hampered when cramped for room by WEST VIEW, which was inclined to lay in when pulling hard.

At the 100m., GLEN MONARCH had to be checked when tightened for room between SIR KINDLE, which shifted out around the heels of GLADMAC to obtain clear running, and CALL TO HONOUR, which shifted in slightly under pressure. Whilst it was established that GLADMAC had shifted out slightly at the stage that he had committed his mount around that horse, D. Oliver, rider of SIR KINDLE, was severely reprimanded for his actions.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
