RACE 1: CNW H'CAP - 1350M.

At the request of connections, permission was granted for the late declaration of blinkers for PLAYING when advised by trainer G. Ryan's representative Mr B. Hill that the horse had worked in blinkers this preparation. Subsequently a $50 fine was issued. Stewards advised Mr Hill that PLAYING would be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start after PLAYING hung out despite the efforts of its rider after leaving the 900m., whereby PLAYING raced close to the outside fence. A veterinary examination of PLAYING failed to reveal any abnormality.

SCOTTISH FLYER was slow to begin.

RACE 2: VISY H'CAP - 2050M.

In the early stages of the straight, PRINCE ADDAMA was held up for clear running.

At the 100m., MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH shifted out and made contact with LITTLE KATERI, causing that horse to become unbalanced.

RACE 3: BECOME A BTC MEMBER H'CAP - 1110M.

KAVANAGH bucked shortly after the start and as a result was eased out of the event. Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that the colt would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

FUN ADDICT was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, SNOWBLAST and METALLIC MISS made contact.

Approaching the first turn, ZARENGO shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, Z. Purton, tightening the running of STAR OF FLIGHT, which had to be checked, SNOWBLAST and METALLIC MISS, which were tightened for room, and CROWN WARRIOR, which also had to be checked when taken in on to the hind quarters of ZADANNA.

After leaving the 800m., METALLIC MISS shifted out and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ATHLETIC GOLD.

Making the home turn, ZADANNA shifted out to avoid the heels of ZARENGO, and in doing so made contact with METALLIC MISS.

RACE 4: SITA H'CAP - 1350M.

DANATINA jumped away awkwardly and lost considerable ground.

PURE OF SOUL was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1200m., LUCY CRISS had to be steadied when tightened for room between STAR LION and ROSE OF CONISTON, which shifted out slightly.

Near the 1100m., when endeavouring to steady off the heels of CHARMING EYES, MISS CLARET shifted in, resulting in THUNDER AND ROSES clipping that horse's heels and blundering.

For some distance approaching the home turn, MISS TINKERBELL was held up for clear running to the inside of the heels of STAR LION.

Inside the 300m., MISS TINKERBELL had to be checked to avoid the heels of ROSE OF CONISTON, which shifted in slightly. D. Schmitt rider of ROSE OF CONISTON, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

DANATINA shifted out to improve near the 150m., slightly inconveniencing THUNDER AND ROSES.

RACE 5: REWARD INSURANCE H'CAP - 1650M.

SUPERTRAMP was slow to begin.

STAR SENSATION jumped awkwardly.

TIMBER TYCOON and SPACE COWBOY were held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

When questioned, S. Galloway advised that BLOW THE WHISTLE travelled well outside the leader, however when placed under pressure on straightening the gelding failed to respond to his riding. He added that in his opinion BLOW THE WHISTLE was better suited when allowed to lead and dictate his own terms. A veterinary examination of BLOW THE WHISTLE failed to reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken from the gelding.

D. Schmitt was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings.

D. Schmitt was found guilty of a further charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that near the 1100m. he failed to make sufficient effort to relieve pressure to horses to his inside, namely SON A BOW, SEMAGIC and JUST A BELIEVER, resulting in those horses being tightened for some distance when racing in restricted room. D. Schmitt was further suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 meetings, such penalty to be served concurrently with the suspension incurred earlier in this race, to commence at midnight 20 October, and to expire at midnight, 3 November 2002.
