BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.12.2.03

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Hackett (Chairman), Mr C. Clifford, Mr G. Ireland, Mr C. McLune, Mr D. Hensler.

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 4M ALL TRACK


RACE 1: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL H'CAP - 1350M.

FRENCH LA REV was tightened for room between LOST PRINCE and GLASSHOUSE when both horses shifted ground at the start.

After travelling a short distance, LOST PRINCE shifted out and brushed GLASSHOUSE.

Approaching the 800m., DISPORTS had to be eased to avoid the heels of GLASSHOUSE, which shifted in.

FRENCH LA REV was inclined to race ungenerously approaching the first turn and near the 800m. became unbalanced and dipped.

Near the 700m., SHIPSWAY had to be eased when racing in restricted room inside of DISPORTS, which shifted in slightly.

GLASSHOUSE, when shifting out rounding the home turn, made heavy contact with FRENCH LA REV on several occasions. C. Reith, rider of GLASSHOUSE, was reminded of his obligations to exercise more care when shifting ground.

On straightening, SHIPSWAY had to be eased to avoid the heels of GLASSHOUSE.

Following the event, the club's veterinary surgeon reported that SHIPSWAY had sustained a laceration to the outside of the near fore cannon.

RACE 2: MCGIRVAN MEDIA H'CAP - 1200M.

As M. Cahill was indisposed, M. Bennett was substituted as the rider of RUSSIAN ADVOCATE.

TRIUMPHANT QUEEN and TUNDRA TILL jumped away awkwardly.

RUSSIAN ADVOCATE and POTASH were slow to jump.

TRIUMPHANT QUEEN commenced to overrace rounding the first turn and continued to overrace for some distance.

Near the 300m., MANHATTAN EAGLE, when attempting to shift out to improve, made contact with MERTHYR ROAD.

After leaving the 200m., MANHATTAN EAGLE shifted ground under pressure, which resulted in MERTHYR ROAD being tightened on to INDARAMA.

Near the 100m., MERTHYR ROAD was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of M. Williamson, rider of INDARAMA.


RACE 3: WESTFIELD H'CAP - 2100M.

D. Evans, rider of NOBLE CASTE, was reprimanded for shifting ground on straightening, resulting in FAVELAS being taken out on to BETHEL, which had to be checked.

When questioned in relation to LITTLE KATERI running wide approaching the 1200m., D. Ballard explained that his mount was pulling hard and it shifted out when he attempted to shorten his hold on the reins. He added that he then elected to go forward due to the horse being caught wide on the track and in an endeavor to race nearer the rails.

RACE 4: CNW PTY LTD H'CAP - 1350M.

As M. Cahill was indisposed, R. Goltz was substituted as the rider of BRIDLE WARRIOR.

Stewards questioned A. Bailey and jockey D. Evans concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of SACRA CLAUSE. D. Evans explained that the horse did not travel well in the early stages particularly when the pace was on and did not finish the race off as expected. Trainer A. Bailey agreed that the performance of the horse was disappointing and felt that it may not have backed up since its previous start on a rain-affected track at the Gold Coast on 1 February. He also indicated that the horse may be better suited over a longer distance. A veterinary examination of SACRA CLAUSE failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.

K. Pope, rider of CAPTAIN MALLORY, was fined $100 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram over his allotted weight.


RACE 5: ORLANDO WYNDHAM H'CAP - 1620M.

No racing incidents.


RACE 6: HARDY BROTHERS JEWELLERS H'CAP - 1020M.

HUGE YEAR blundered on jumping away.

SLIPSTREAM was forced to race 3 wide in the early and middle stages.


RACE 7: OPTIGRASS H'CAP - 1020M.

CIARA shifted in shortly after the start and cramped ROVING FORTUNE.

ROVING FORTUNE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of LAUREN EMILY, which shifted in leaving the 800m..

Leaving the 700m., DODA HUCKLBUCK had to be eased when it improved on to the heels of LAURIE'S FOLLY.

Near the 100m., CIARA had to be eased when it was inclined to lay in under pressure and had to be steadied off the heels of LACRYMA BAY.


RACE 8: TRIPLE M H'CAP - 1620M.

JAKE'S PICK, which was slow to begin, shifted out, coming into contact with the hind quarters of SEAWAY LAD.

MEMPHIS TENNESEE was inconvenienced at the start between SQUADRON COMMANDER and SPECIAL JEUNEY when both horses shifted ground slightly.

Shortly after the start, MRS CROMWELL had to be eased to avoid the heels of ALL STARLIGHT, which shifted out.

Stewards questioned S. Galloway and stable foreman M. Hawkes concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of PENTAGRAM. S. Galloway reported that after not having the necessary pace to lead, PENTAGRAM had been caught 3 wide, and after leaving the 600m., the horse commenced to race under pressure and was forced wider when other runners attempted to improve to its inside. He stated that the horse did not finish the race off as expected. Mr M. Hawkes confirmed his disappointment and undertook to inform stewards of anything that may come to his notice in the following days that may have had a bearing on the horse's performance. A veterinary examination of PENTAGRAM failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.

ALL WINNERS, SACRA CLAUSE AND PENTAGRAM WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
