WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 6M. ALL TRACK
RACE 1: AIR NEW ZEALAND H'CAP - 1350M.
As A. Erhart failed to arrive on course to fulfil his engagement on SOJOURNER, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of that gelding.
IT'S GRAND jumped awkwardly and made contact with SURFING JOE.
After leaving the 800m., IT'S GRAND commenced to pull hard and had to be restrained off the heels of SURFING JOE.
W. Moore, rider of DOFF, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 600m., he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SOJOURNER, resulting in SOJOURNER having to be checked. W. Moore was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to expire at midnight, 29 June 2003.
SAM'S DREAM was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
RACE 2: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL H'CAP - 1350M.
Shortly after the start, SHE'S VIVACIOUS shifted in and made contact with EXILE.
At the 1000m., KEEP A DREAM ALIVE, when being restrained, raced fiercely for a short distance.
Making the 800m. turn, KEEP A DREAM ALIVE, which was racing greenly, shifted in abruptly, taking SUPAROO in on to EXILE, which had to be severely checked.
After passing the 700m., KEEP A DREAM ALIVE then shifted out abruptly off the heels of PRINCE CARTIER. The racing manners of KEEP A DREAM ALIVE were drawn to the attention of trainer M. Price.
Near the 600m., SUPAROO had to be restrained off the heels of OLYMPIC SUNRISE.
Approaching the 400m., PRINCE CARTIER shifted in under pressure.
RACE 3: EMIRATES AIR TRAVEL H'CAP - 1640M.
THE GREY TIGER, KING'S AURA (NZ) and COVET IN CASH were slow to begin.
S. Galloway, rider of SOMHAIRLE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1000m. he permitted his mount to shift in, taking CHU FENG in on to LADY FLICK, which had to be checked. S. Galloway was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 22 June, and to expire at midnight, 5 July 2003.
Approaching the home turn, LADY FLICK had to be checked when attempting a run to the inside of CHU FENG where there was insufficient room.
Approaching the 200m., KING'S AURA was obliged to shift in abruptly to avoid the heels of the tiring SARA DANE. At the same stage, K. Cunningham, rider of THE GREY TIGER, accidentally dropped her whip.
RACE 4: NETWORK TEN H'CAP - 1350M.
SKY BID was withdrawn at 12.53 p.m. on veterinary advice.
In the early stages, COTTON BRAE pulled hard when racing to the outside of MISS NATURAL.
Approaching the 800m., GRACE'S ROSES also pulled hard and had to be restrained off the heels of DARK TOPAZE, and in doing so shifted out, forcing DR CILENTO wider on the track.
SENSIBLE was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight, and near the 200m. had to be checked when attempting a run between the tiring GRACE'S ROSES and GAELIC HONOUR.
RACE 5: TRIPLE M H'CAP - 1020M.
A veterinary examination of HEAD AWAY, which was found to have skin taken off its near hind hock during transit to the course, passed the gelding fit to start.
DANCE THE WIND jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Making the first turn, HEAD AWAY commenced to lose ground, resulting in DOUBLE EL AITCH, which had improved quickly to that horse's inside, having to be checked severely.
Passing the 800m., SHESEQUEL shifted out, forcing FINAL POSSESSION wider on the track.
HEAD AWAY, which finished a distant last, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon with no abnormalities reported. Trainer D. Gafa was advised that the gelding's nomination in future would be refused in the metropolitan area until it established better form, and that HEAD AWAY would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Upon return to its stables, D. Gaffa reported that HEAD AWAY was found to be shin sore in both forelegs.
RACE 6: MERCURE RESORT SURFERS PARADISE H'CAP - 1350M.
LILY'S CONFOY reared as the gates opened and lost ground.
BUMP and SIRONA were both slow to begin.
M. Pelling, rider of SPLENDID MISSILE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in under pressure after leaving the 100m., taking EN BATEAU in towards the running of CINDERELLA CAFÉ, resulting in EN BATEAU having to be checked approaching the 50m.. M. Pelling was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 21 June, and to expire at midnight, 4 July 2003.
GO ON NOW GO was held up for clear running from the entrance to the straight until near the 50m. mark, where he had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MISS CLARET, which shifted in under pressure. G. Colless, rider of MISS CLARET, was advised that he must make a greater effort to prevent is mounts from shifting ground.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HYMN TO HER, J. Powell stated that after racing on the pace, the mare was under pressure shortly after entering the straight, and he could offer no excuse for the performance, adding that the connections advised him on return to the enclosure that HYMN TO HER would be spelled immediately.
RACE 7: TAMBLYN MODELS H'CAP - 1640M.
TORINY broke through the barriers prior to the start being effected and was immediately restrained. TORINY was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
WESTMINSTER HALL and OUR SIAM were slow to begin.
Approaching the 1400m., PEKAN LADY had to be restrained to avoid the heels of REALE D'OR, which shifted in.
SAINTS UNION had to be steadied to avoid the heels of JIMMY WALASKO, which shifted in near the 100m..
CALEDONIAN LAD was held up for clear running over the concluding stages.
N. Jolly was questioned regarding the performance of REALE D'OR. He stated that the gelding travelled well until an opportunity presented itself near the 700m. to improve, however REALE D'OR was unable to quicken at this stage and he felt that passing the 200m. REALE D'OR was likely to finish to towards the rear of the field, however the gelding then responded to his riding and finished fairly.
RACE 8: COURAN COVE RESORT H'CAP - 1200M.
As D. Gay was indisposed, N. Evans was substituted as the rider of BROWN BRIDGE.
GOLD LOGIE was slow to begin.
Passing the 800m., MR KISEKI pulled hard when being restrained off the heels of CHA CHA D'AMOUR, and was further hampered near the 600m. when taken out by VATICAN WISH. In this incident, GLASSHOUSE, which was following, had to be checked.
Approaching the 600m., when being steadied off the heels of LUNCHTIME LAD, NORTH KEYS shifted out abruptly, taking HIGHLAND STORM, VATICAN WISH and DINNA ANCHOR wider on the track.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
