When questioned as to the disappointing performance of DASH ON RUBY, G. Colless stated that on the previous occasion at Doomben the mare was reluctant to race inside horses and as a result he had ridden DASH ON RUBY off the fence, however when placing the mare under pressure near the 500m, she failed to accelerate as she had on 15 October. A veterinary examination of DASH ON RUBY failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer A. Bailey reported that some time after the event DASH ON RUBY was coughing and as a result he have the mare scoped.

Apprentice C. Spry was questioned as to JUST AWE's disappointing performance. He stated that after being allowed to lead in the early stages JUST AWE travelled reasonably well, even when joined by DEVIL passing the 800m. He added that at this point he elected to ease JUST AWE to allow DEVIL to assume the lead, however after turning into the straight JUST AWE was immediately under pressure and he eased the gelding over the concluding stages as he felt there may be something amiss. A veterinary examination of JUST AWE failed to reveal any abnormality.
Trainer M. Crouch's representative advised that MIGHTY STRONGHOLD would be spelled.
A swab sample was taken from CHOP CHOP.

GUNNISON ISLAND shifted in shortly after the start and made contact with MIXADAD which in turn was taken in on to PALATINE which made contact with POWER HUNT which was taken across the heels of DOODA HUCKLEBUCK.
Near the 800m GEIGER DRAGON shifted in slightly, tightening KATABATIC in on to GUNNISON ISLAND which resulted in ROAR TALENT having to be eased. G. Colless advised that in this incident ROAR TALENT overreacted to the tightening and was reluctant to hold its position when racing inside of GUNNISON ISLAND.
PALATINE was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight and near the 150m was steadied when disappointed for a run between POWER HUNT and ROAR TALENT, both of which shifted ground.
A veterinary examination of KATABATIC revealed the horse to be showing signs of muscle cramping in the off flank.
A swab sample was taken from POWER HUNT.
