BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT 17.7.04

RACE 1: GREGORY TERRACE OLD BOYS RACEDAY H’CAP – 1350M

An inquiry has been adjourned into M Rodd being declared as the rider of both SIRONA and CEDAR LODGE. A Kennedy was substituted as the rider of SIRONA.

VAIN AND HANDY was slow to begin.

PERANCE jumped away awkwardly.

PROPHET JEWEL and MESSIAEN came together on jumping away.

After leaving the 1000. SIRONA had to be steadied to avoid the heels of DOOGALL’S LUCK, resulting in DANEFULL, which was following having to shift out to avoid the heels of SIRONA.

Approaching the first turn, when D Ballard endeavoured the restrain PERANCE, that gelding had to be checked to avoid the heels of HOOFER, which shifted out.

DANEFULL was obliged to race wide in the middle stages.

D Ballard, rider of PERANCE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift out after leaving the 300m when not clear of SIRONA, resulting in SIRONA having to be checked approaching the 200m. D Ballard was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings to commence at midnight, 21 July and to expire at midnight, 4 August 2004.

A veterinary examination of PERANCE following the event revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the inside of the off hind leg.

RACE 2: THE 27TH AUGUST TERRACE GOLF DAY QTIS H’CAP – 1200M

On return to scale a protest was lodged by M Rodd, rider of PICCOHI, against LA FREGATURA (S, Scriven) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 800m. after taking evidence from all parties, including B Stewart, rider of ROAR PROSPECT, which raced between PICCOHI and LA FREGATURA at this stage of the event, the objection was dismissed. At a subsequent inquiry, whilst it was acknowledged that LA FREGATURA had shifted in, taking ROAR PROSPECT in on to PICCOHI causing that horse to be checked, it was the opinion of the stewards S Scriven was not fully responsible for the incident, as CRAIGLEA Miss, which was racing to the outside of LA FREGATURA, Had made contact with that filly, forcing LA GREGATURA in slightly. CRAFTY KING, which was following had to be checked to avoid the heels of PICCOHI, then shifted out, making contact with the hind quarters of BOOM SHAKER, which then became unbalanced between JESTACLOWN AND PICCOHI.

After leaving the 800m BOOM SHAKER again was tightened for room between JESTACLOWN and PICCOHI when PICCOHI sifted out from behind the heels of ROAR PROSPECT.

Approaching the 700m PICCOHI when attempting to maintain a position one off the fence, shifted out and made contact with BOOM Shaker.

Nearing the 600m ROAR PROSPECT shifted out slightly, resulting in PICCOHI being taken out onto BOOM SHAKER, which had to be checked when tightened on to JESTACLOWN. CRAFTY KING, which was following at this stage, was also inconvenienced in this incident.

In the middle stages, GREAT COMMANDER was inclined to pull hard when being restrained.

Near the 250m ZAUBEREI shifted out from behind the heels of ROAR PROSPECT, brushing KALIMIA.

J Byrne reported that CRAIGLEA MISS was inclined to hang in throughout the event.

UNBOUND and ADMIRAL SPY were obliged to race wide throughout the event.

RACE 3: PATRICK TERMINALS QTIS H’CAP – 1350M

Due to the delay with the protest lodged in race2, this race was rescheduled back 5 minutes to 1.25pm.

ARGENTERIE was very slow to begin. Trainer K Doughty was advised that a further barrier certificate would be required for the filly prior to its next race start.

SAN CARLO jumped awkwardly.

KIDNAPPER, which also jumped away awkwardly, made heavy contact with MR BAADOT.

Approaching the home turn, SAN CARLO was momentarily tightened for room between ARGENTERIE and COLONIAL EXPRESS.

Approaching the 300m SAN CARLO shifted out, taking COLONIAL EXPRESS wider on the track. A Robinson rider of SAN CARLO, was advised that he must be fully clear before shifting ground.

D Ballard was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KIDNAPPER. D Ballard stated that the filly never travelled well throughout the event and was under pressure prior to the 600m. a veterinary examination of KIDNAPPER failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer A Bailey undertook to inform stewards of anything that may come to his notice in the following days that may have had an effect on the horse’s performance.

A veterinary examination of YUKON PRIDE following the event failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The club’s veterinary surgeon also reported that YO KIDOKI was showing soreness over the back muscles.

RACE 4: PATRICK LOGISTICS H’CAP – 2020M

As A Kennedy was to be overweight on KAVORKA and LINCOLN ROAD (Race 8) A W Robinson was substituted as the rider of KAVORKA and J Taylor as the rider of LINCOLN ROAD A Kennedy was fined the sum of $200.

Trainer D Sutton was fined $50 for presenting LAUD ATLAS to the inclosure without blinkers.

TAKE STRIKE blundered at the start, almost dislodging L Deguara. A short distance after, TAKE STRIKE shifted in, tightening CAPTAIN ZIGZAG.

Approaching the first turn, COUNTER AGENT shifted in, tightening the running of LAUD ATLAS, VICTORY RANGER AND CLASSIC KARLA.

COUNTER AGENT pulled hard in the middle stages.

S Katsidis was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KALERA KING. He stated that the gelding responded only fairly to his riding, and could offer no further excuse. A veterinary examination of KALERA KING failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.

A veterinary examination of VICTORY RANGER failed to reveal any abnormality

RACE 5: ORSE VITANZA TYRES GREGORY TERRACE CUP H’CAP – 1615M

APPIAN RULE, which broke through the stalls prior to the start, was quickly restrained, examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

Permission was granted for S Galloway to replace P Hammersley as the rider of ARI BANU declaring half a kilogram overweight when no other rider was available at that weight.

APRIAN RULE was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1400m LORD RUPERT shifted in, taking JARROD in on to HAMAH, which had to be steadied.

ACTIVE COMBAT pulled hard in the middle stages.

JARROD shifted out on the turn 600m turn and made contact with LORD RUPERT.

After leaving the 100m, SARANAC was momentarily held up for clear running.

Stable representative Mr P Paton was questioned regarding the improved performance of ARI BANU. He stated that the performance was mainly due to the gelding being freshened up since its last run at Beaudesert on 12 June when ARI BANU, in his opinion, put in a good effort when beaten only 4 lengths on that occasion.

RACE 6: THE TJ COGHLAN MEMORIAL H’CAP – 1350M

OMNITRADER jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, hampering PERISCOPE.

After leaving the 800m BEAMER shifted out from behind the heels of ANIMATE, forcing OMNITRADER wider on the track.

LITTLE DOZER was inclined to hang in under pressure in the straight.

KING LOTTO was obligated to race wide throughout. A veterinary examination of KING LOTTO failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 7: ORSE ACHIEVED AMBITION H’CAP – 1010M

G Colless reported that PENOLA hung out throughout the race. PENOLA returned to scale with blood in its mouth as a result of a cut to its tongue.

J Byrne reported that, in his opinion, SIR MUKAFAST felt the effects of the hard track today.

RACE 8: VITANZA TYRES H’CAP – 110M

EL SUROSO was slow to begin.

MISTER DE BALI jumped awkwardly.

Shortly after the start, SAN FRANFRISCO shifted in being tightened for room and taken in on to the hind quarters of HUEY. A short distance later, HUEY shifted out, resulted in MISTER DE BALI being checked. B Stewart, rider of SAN FRANFRISCO, reported that as a result of jumping away awkwardly, his saddle rolled, which placed him in difficulties in the early stages of the event. B Stewart’s explanation was accepted.

Approaching the 200m, HUEY was held up for clear running behind LINCOLN ROAD.

EL SUROSO was obligated to race wide throughout the race.

B Stewart was fined $100 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.

ALL WINNERS AND KALERA KING WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
