SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
BRISBANE TURF CLUB - 4 SEPTEMBER 2004
Following the disappointing performance of CHIQUITTA at the above meeting, trainer Mr Nolan reported that he had pathology tests carried out on CHIQUITTA and the results revealed that the horse was suffering from the effects of a virus, and it was the intention that the horse would now be sent to be spelled.

RACE 1: LEXUS SPRING CARNIVAL @ NCF DOOMBEN 3YO COLTS & GELDINGS MAIDEN H'CAP - 1350M.
FUNNY BOY jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with PRIOR KNOWLEDGE.
WHAT ABOUT BROWNIE had to be checked at the start between DEBACLE and CATFISH, which was taken in by CORONATION STAR and ABERCORN.
Both ABERCORN and DEBACLE commenced to race ungenerously approaching the first turn.
Rounding the first turn, WHAT ABOUT BROWNIE raced in restricted room to the inside of PRIOR KNOWLEDGE.
Over the concluding stages, DEBACLE shifted in under pressure, which resulted in BOSS BEAR being cramped for room approaching the winning post.
When questioned regarding her handling of LEGS ARE BEST, L. Deguara stated that she had been instructed to take up a forward position, and after jumping well she followed instructions, however after being caught 3 wide rounding the first turn, she continued to press forward and raced outside the leader. She further stated that after joining the leader, her mount commenced to compound approaching the home turn. The explanation was noted.
RACE 2: FRINGE BAR FASHION PARTY - 8 OCT CLASS 5 H'CAP - 1660M.
TELINDA LAD was slow to begin.
SCOOTERS jumped away awkwardly.
Rounding the first turn, HANGING BASKET commenced to race fiercely when being restrained off the heels of BIG CAT NAP.
Leaving the 1200m., HANGING BASKET shifted out abruptly and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of FORTUNE'S FRIEND.
Inside the 200m., POKER PLAYER was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of M. Bennett, rider of GONZO.
RACE 3: GEEBUNG TP - 2ND LT HORSE REGT OPEN H'CAP - 1040M.
Approaching the first turn, ARIGATO shifted in, causing crowding to CLAY SHAKER and FAIRY QUEEN, which had to be steadied and as a result lost ground. Y. Yamazaki, rider of ARIGATO, was severely reprimanded and advised to provide sufficient clearance when shifting ground in future.
After entering the straight, CEFFYL laid out and had to be steadied off the heels of MT. GOWER, which at the same stage shifted in slightly.
Inside the 250m., M. Rice, rider of MT. GOWER, accidentally dropped his whip.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of MT. GOWER, M. Rice stated that the gelding did not show his customary early speed, and although being obliged to race 3 wide for the majority of the race, the gelding did not respond when placed under pressure. The explanation was noted. A veterinary examination of MT. GOWER failed to reveal any abnormality.
Following the event, trainer B. Swan reported that ARIGATO had sustained minor lacerations after being fractious in the barriers.
RACE 4:QLD LIONS FAMILY DAY - 30 OCT 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN H'CAP - 1350M.
YOU'LL NEVER KNOW jumped away awkwardly and lost significant ground.
DON'T TELL CLANG jumped outwards at the start, crowding CRAIGLEA CLASS on to DREAM GAL.
Approaching the 1100m., GOLDEN SHEEN raced up on to the heels of PALANQUIN and shifted in abruptly, crowding the running of MARIAH BAY.
Rounding the first turn when the pace steadied, GOLDEN SHEEN shifted out and made contact with WILLOW PARK.
Leaving the 600m., PICKASTAR shifted out to improve and made contact with PALANQUIN.
RACE 5: JAMES REYNE - 2 NOV CLASS 3 H'CAP - 2020M.
BERNYARD was slow to begin.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of GRAND LOVER, M. Pelling stated the horse was under pressure leaving the 700m., and the way the horse finished the race off gave him the impression that it may be in need of a freshen up prior to racing again. M. Pelling stated that he had advised connections of his opinion. The explanation was noted. A veterinary examination of GRAND LOVER failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 6: MELBOURNE CUP DAY @ NCF DOOMBEN CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1350M.
IT'S NOT FAIR was slow to begin.
SOVEREIGN CLAUSE jumped outwards at the start, making contact with SILENT THOUGHT.
Inside the 1200m., BRIGHT YOU ARE threw its head in the air when being steadied across the heels of SOVEREIGN CLAUSE.
Apprentice A. Best was fined $100 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram over his allotted weight. (AR 145)
RACE 7: LAURENT PERRIER 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE - 1200M.
The start of this event was delayed when GOLD AND VORTEX proved difficult to load. Trainer Mr R. Kelly was advised that he would be required to barrier trial the gelding prior to starting again.
ROYAL MOA and MADISON KING were slow to begin.
Approaching the first turn, SECRET PASSER, when being steadied off the heels of ROYAL MOA, lost ground after shifting in and making heavy contact with the running rail.
Leaving the 600m., REAL SMYTZER had to be steadied off the heels of ROYAL MOA, which had commenced to hang out.
Inside the 300m., GOLD AND VORTEX, which was hanging in, had to be checked off the heels of PICK OF PICKS, which shifted out after being bumped by DEEP SOUND (D. Griffin), which in turn shifted out to improve around the heels of MATABELE. D. Griffin was reprimanded over this incident.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
