An inquiry was held into the poor performance of CAFFE FRANCAIS, which, after settling at the rear of the field, raced under pressure prior to the home turn and failed to respond when tested in the straight. J. Byrne stated that after being fractious in the barriers, the horse jumped only reasonably and as a result back in the field further than anticipated. He added that he had been instructed by connections to have the horse racing more prominently, however the horse failed to respond to his riding in the early stages and raced off the bit and was under pressure prior to the home turn. Trainer R. Maund agreed that the performance was disappointing today and felt that the filly's preparation for today's race had been somewhat restricted due to the recent wet weather on the Downs, whereby the horse had missed some trackwork. R. Maund also informed the inquiry that the had been advised after the race by his stablehand that the horse had been showing signs recently that it may be in season. R. C. Whiteley reported that in the early stages he endeavoured to gain a position with cover on OUR SECRET AGENT however the horse, after being caught wide approaching the first turn, commenced to pull and he elected to allow the horse to stride to the lead.

Near the 100m., ALFONSO, when attempting a run in restricted room inside of OUR SECRET AGENT, had to be steadied when OUR SECRET AGENT shifted in slightly.

CARLTON BRU, which compounded over the latter stages, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon, who reported that the horse was suffering from cardiac arrythmia. Following this advice, trainer L. Dennett was advised that CARLTON BRU would be required to pass an official barrier trial and an ECG report would be required.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of COOKE STREET, S. Galloway stated that despite the horse overracing for a short distance in the early stages and getting its head up rounding the first turn, the horse was then under pressure prior to the home turn and did not respond to his riding. Trainer's representative Mr B.
